We have a platform where users get logged in with Facebook. Now on customers demand, we want to provide a feature where we will request logged in users profile link at the time of login via user_link permission and user can share that link to anyone with just one tap. And on the other end, the other user who will receive this link will able to see (on facebook app or on Web) the sender's profile and if interested they can get connected.
But the issue is, I am not able to see user profile got as user_link. Its seems like I can only use this link if he or she is already my friend. If so then how can I implement this feature in my app? also if I am wrong at any point please correct me.
Its seems like I can only use this link if he or she is already my friend.
That’s exactly what the documentation says, https://developers.facebook.com/docs/graph-api/reference/user:
link: A link to the person's Timeline. The link will only resolve if the person clicking the link is logged into Facebook and is a friend of the person whose profile is being viewed.

If so then how can I implement this feature in my app?
You can’t; Facebook has deliberately designed this feature with this restriction, to better protect people’s privacy.
I plan to start a Facebook contest where the user is first asked to like the page, then they submit their email to enter the contest.
I checked out other contest examples on:
http://contests.about.com/od/facebookcontests/tp/Facebook-Contests-and-Facebook-Sweepstakes.htm
Most Facebook pages direct a user to a "Like this page to continue" page. I tried to google around to find how this is done, but I cannot find anything. I tried to find ways to track specific user's likes,
For contest-specific legal reasons, I cannot use an app that makes the contest and keeps track of the entries. So I will need to create this from scratch.
I have made other apps before, and I do have access to an external server where I plan to create a page and link to it from facebook for the 'frame' type app.
Is there a standard way of doing this? Is there a documentation that I have yet to find?
Thanks
(Me answering my own question)
Some more googling I was able to find:
How to check if current facebook user like a page using PHP SDK?
A php version of the same question.
In that case, I will be able to check out FQL's documentation to find out how to get this information.
I really don't want a permission popup from facebook to pop up, and I don't think I will need that to make this work. I will try that and add a comment to this answer if it works just like what I'm looking for.
On my site I want members to be able to click a link import your Facebook photo then a Facebook popup opens and asks user to confirm that he/she wants to share their profile picture with my website.
Can this be done? What are the steps? I am looking at the Facebook graph API but I am unsure if this is the right thing, I have huge problems understanding their samples and "help" files.
I was able to easily do this with Gmail and Yahoo, uses can get a browser popup from them in order to confirm sharing contacts with my website, I assumed Facebook works the same to import the profile picture but I am spinning in circles.
Within Facebook Terms for users it states that your name and picture are publicly available so one does not need permission to request it.
https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy/your-info
The naitik call is an example of data that is publicly available without asking for permission.
When you are requesting the current user, that is, you don't know the id or name beforehand, then you use a basic login flow which will then present one of the following dialogs.
I'm a web developer and i'm having problems using the "like it" button
I put the buttom on my site as a counter of votes of a special contest. People can only click the like buttom if they are fan of my Facebook page.
The problem is that people can't vote if they haven't public permissions on his facebook, cause i can't know if they are or not fans of my page.
Is there a solution?
if you rely on information that you are not certain that you can obtain then sadly there is no solution.
Since what you are doing is beyond a simple like button What you may want to try is open a facebook application and request from your users the user_likes permission. You can read more about it here. I have photo albums on the "highest privacy setting" - only me. Yet when I request a list of my photo albums through one of my applications (with the required permissions of course) I get back ALL of my albums.. This might have been a temporary issue that was solved - but in any case - I saw this behavior and I thought it might be relevant to this post :)
Additionally you should look at the Promotions Guidelines specifically this point :
You must not use Facebook features or functionality as a promotion’s registration or entry mechanism. For example, the act of liking a Page or checking in to a Place cannot automatically register or enter a promotion participant.
I had some problems with facebook on this issue - you are not allowed to require someone to "like" a page in order to participate in an activity that is not directly connected to that page.
From what I understand you are requireing people to like your page on facebook beofore voting on your site... If this IS the case then facebook might very well start taking action and closing your page/app.
I am designing a website that will be heavily integrated with facebook. Members connect to the site via their facebook accounts and facebook authentication/permission is used to access their friends list and other information.
There are instances in which I would like the site to be able to send facebook inbox messages to selected people from the user's friends list (in a user initiated manner).
I have discovered that this is not possible through facebook permissions.
One idea that I have is to have Facebook's "Compose New Message" popup to appear overlayed on top of my site (as would appear when clicking the "Send new message" button on a user's profile page). The user would then type a message and press send (hopefully circumventing the permissions issue).
I have browsed the facebook developer docs and forums, but my technical knowledge is limited. I just want to know if this is possible or not, and to be pointed in the direction of material on how this could be achieved (so that I can pass this on to hired developers once I reach that stage)
Any help or suggestions on alternatives would be gratefully received!
Pete
The closest you can be to your goal is using the Send Button. However, this button is used to share links, which are usually open graph pages. What you can to is specify a dummy href/link so that it shows a blank page. Or, better if you actually needed a link attached, then you have no problem.
There is no way of doing it using Graph API Message Object. There are no publishing rights to this object whatever permission you ask from the user. It is read-only. Just look at the extended permission it is only read_mailbox - "READ_mailbox".
Even FQL can't help us with this.
Also, facebook is in the process of migrating to a new messaging system. So playing around with is now is not advisable.
What you can do now is utilize the Send button I mentioned above.
