Matlab csvread() creating wrong matrix - matlab

I simply want to import a matrix from a .csv into Matlab and find that Matlab is acting differently wrt length of a row in my csv. :
First, I read a file of 2 rows with 50000 columns and Matlab correctly shows a 2*50000 matrix in my workspace.
Now, if the file consists of 2 rows with 100000 columns, Matlab identifies it as a 200000*1 matrix.
What has gone wrong there?

What command are you using? csvread('filename.csv') ?
I would personally prefer to use
Data = importdata( 'filename.csv','\t');

MATLAB: How to convert data from an excel file (several sheets) to a matrix?

I try to process data from an excel file from several sheets (~200). Luckily the data is always at the same position in each sheet. I wrote the following code for this purpose which unfortunately does not work since I have problems with converting the cell entries to a matrix. Any idea how to solve that? Thanks!

You are not using the cell2mat command on the whole cell.
data{k}
will already give you a matrix that contains the 7 entries of the sheet k.
You either need to use cell2mat on the whole cell after the loop:
b=cell2mat(data)
or
b(k)=data{k}
within the loop.

Numerical Matrix CSV -> Covariance Matrix

I have a CSV file containing a numerical matrix with over two thousand New York Stock Exchange listed companies' value over two years.
It seems like it should be really simple - I want to attain a covariance matrix formed from the CSV matrix.
As far as I'm aware I simply need to:
Import the data as numerical matrix (just the data no headings etc) using the MATLAB Import Data button.
Press save as on the workspace variable and make e.g. NYSE.mat.
In my function call cov(NYSE.mat);
This should access the matrix and return a large covariance matrix from my data. The cov() function works when i manually input an example matrix of for example:
[5 0 3 7; 1 -5 7 3; 4 9 8 10];
But for some reason whenever I try to call cov(NYSE.mat); only one number is returned, rather than a covariance matrix.
Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong? I've been trying to figure this out for a while now and I feel the answer should be really simple.

Not sure you need to manually save the workspace name in step 2. As part of your import process you once you click the import button the variable should be loaded into workspace with the name of the file (maybe NYSE)
Try Load('NYSE.mat') and see what appears in your workspace.
Once you figure out the name of the variable, calling the function with that.
If your CSV file is without any header lines (not sure if any CSV file needs them) and contains only numbers, you can simply call
x = importdata('<nameofyourcsv>.csv');
and then
c = cov(x);
or even do it in one step:
c = cov(importdata('nameofcsv.csv'));
This function is equivalent of clicking on the button you mention. However, if your file contains header lines, you have to specify its number and call this function with more parameters:
x = importdata('nameofcsv.csv',',', nh); % nh is a number of header lines
x will no longer be a regular MATLAB matrix but a structure with following fields: data, textdata, and colheaders. cov(x.data) will calculate covariance. Not sure why you would need to save anything in a mat file, though. If you wish, you would probably need to assign a value from a data field to a regular variable and then save such variable. Otherwise, you will save the whole x structure.

Vectorization or For loop in MATLAB

I want to read data from .txt file to plot a 3D graph in matlab. The data looks like this

Each column I've imported as a separate column Vector say T_hor,T_ver,V_hor,V_ver. Now I want to read first 4096 rows of this individual column vector 'T_hor' and then the next 4096 rows of the column vector T_hor. This applies for every column. My Goal was to compute FFT for the 4096 set of values incrementally and store them as column vectors.I was previously using this command to read the values into different column vector.
x1 = T_ver(1:4096);
x2 = T_ver(4097:8193);
I want to make the code look more Logical and avoid unnecessary lines of code. So I tried applying for loop for this but I think I'm doing it in a wrong way.

I think Vectorization can be more easy and consumes less execution time. Can anyone give me a direction or hints on how to implement this.

Matlab Vector to xls

I have a vector V with a single row and 16761 columns.
I want to write it to an XLS file to use it for training of neural network.
I have tried following code but I got error:
V = reshape(I,1,16761);
filename = 'testdata.xls';
xlswrite(filename,V);`
Please help me to come out-off it.

It was due to large size of vector, Excel supports only 256 columns
Note that versions after Excel 2003 support upto 16384 columns.

Error " Index exceeds Matrix dimensions"

I am trying to read an excel 2003 file which consist of 62 columns and 2000 rows and then draw 2d dendrogram from 2000 pattern of 2 categories of a data as my plot in matlab. When I run the script, it gives me the above error. I don't know why. Anybody has any idea why I have the above error?

After the xlsread statement you should get a 2000x62 double matrix Data. Then you transpose it and assign to X, so X is 62x2000 matrix. In the clustergram vectors for the properties RowLabels and ColumnLabels are supposed to match the size of your Data, but you pass a 2000-length vector as RowLabels and 2-length vector as ColumnLabels. This might cause the error.
What version of MATLAB are you using? It looks like pretty old, since you have clustergram as function, but in later versions of Bioinformatic Toolbox it was redesigned as object. In R2010a your code would generate
"ROWLABELS size does not match data"
but I'm not sure what it would be in old version.
Try to remove RowLabels and ColumnLabels, as well as other properties. Do you still get the error?
