Opening Netbeans IDE, it tries to scan the project in "Projects" window. For some reason the scan cannot be done and it freezes Netbeans.
How can I retrieve this project from the "Projects" list without opening the IDE, in the file system of Netbeans.
Thank you.
Note : windows environment, in an xml file maybe
Look for openProjectsDisplayNames and openProjectsURLs in the file config/Preferences/org/netbeans/modules/projectui.properties in the user configuration directory (see http://wiki.netbeans.org/FaqWhatIsUserdir )
Delete the ones corresponding to the project you want to avoid opening.
Another option would be to just delete the whole user configuration directory to reset your config. This might be necessary anyway if Netbeans is freezing for another reason.

This might be a dumb question, but I have a project I am trying to edit a few files for and using eclipse 4.20.0 as an IDE.
When I try to import the directory in eclipse, it creates a completely separate eclipse workspace directory and stores the files in there for my editing. (When I make changes, files in the eclipse workspace directory are changed, but not the original directory)
Is there a way to open the original directory in Eclipse and edit files directly in there? Or am I going to have to work inside the directory eclipse created and then manually move the files over every time to test them again?
I swear I've done this before, but it's been a few years so I might just be importing the directory wrong.
If you are only making a couple changes, just clicking on the .java class you need in your explorer and "Open With... -> Eclipse IDE" will allow you to edit the specific file without opening up a new project. If you are trying to open the project and work on all the files at once, File > Open Projects from File System usually works pretty well on eclipse. If you are opening another eclipse project, just click on the folder where the .project is stored when opening, not necessarily clicking into the folder itself.
I opened the Eclipse as usual from an installer (I downloaded the complete jBPM engine and Eclipse is included with it). I open it from a command prompt. When I opened the Eclipse I found it is empty as it is installed recently. no projects or tabs or anything.
I reopened the project I am working on and found that the main file that containing the code is empty (it is one line with hidden words). I opened the project from its location on the hard disk and I found the file is also empty but I can see that there is something on it.
I tried to open the project on Netbeans but the problem is still exist. I tried to open the file from the local history but I found nothing in the history. Unfortunately I didn't take a backup from my last work. I don't know what to do right now, if you can help it will be appreciated. I attached here a picture for the eclipse with the empty file:
If the project is already deployed in some server then you can decompile them from deployed folder(i.e : webapps folder of Tomcat)
Right now I'm having this issue in Eclipse where I have an XML file open that's really big in which it almost crashes Eclipse. However this file being opened is saved in my window history, therefore I restart eclipse, it tries to open this massive file again. How do I clear the opened window history in eclipse?
I would prefer not having to clear my workspace entirely as I have mylyn data I want to keep. I've tried using Eclipse clean but this doesn't seem to do anything related to opened windows.
Your workbench information are saved in this file in your workspace:
.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.ui.workbench/workbench.xml
or depending on your eclipse version:
.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.e4.workbench/workbench.xmi
You can delete it and eclipse will recreate the file, you can also try to edit it, but it's a big file and may be hard... Deleting this file all workbench related settings are lost but your projects stays intact.
Go to Preferences and search for 'workspace'. You will see the list of workspaces that you can delete.
Some alternatives:
Move or rename the offensive file so that eclipse is unable to open it.
File->Switch Workspace->Other to load a new workspace copying your workbench layout.
Just some thoughts, my experience is closing a file and then the program means that the program will not attempt to open the file once launched again.
When I launch Eclipse it starts with one of the workspaces I created and selected "don't ask again" (standardly, Eclipse asks about which workspace to start with during the startup).
So it must store somewhere which workspace to use. Where does it store this piece of information?
In
$HOME/.eclipse/org.eclipse.platform_3.7.0_155965261/configuration/.settings
there is a file
org.eclipse.ui.ide.prefs
where it is stored.
With Eclipse Juno, I can see this information in:
eclipse\configuration\.settings file.
I guess you are looking for RECENT_WORKSPACES and SHOW_WORKSPACE_SELECTION_DIALOG vars.
The settings have changed since this question was posted, as newer versions of Eclipse have been released.
With Eclipse Luna, navigate to $ECLIPSE_HOME/eclipse/configuration/.settings and the file org.eclipse.ui.ide.prefs contains settings like this (Windows file configuration shown):
MAX_RECENT_WORKSPACES=5
RECENT_WORKSPACES=C\:\\src\\eclipse-workspaces\\luna\\MyApp\nC\:\\src\\eclipse-workspaces\\luna\\MyOtherApp
RECENT_WORKSPACES_PROTOCOL=3
SHOW_WORKSPACE_SELECTION_DIALOG=true
eclipse.preferences.version=1
Each entry in RECENT_WORKSPACES appears to be delimited by \n with no spaces. Whenever I manually shuffle my workspaces around (which is rare, but it happens), I've had great success hand-editing this file, saving it, and having the new paths show up just fine in the Workspace Lancher/Select a Workspace dialog.
You have eclipse configuration files in "eclipse_home"/configuration and the one you may looking for is in settings directory : org.eclipse.ui.ide.prefs
I was facing an issue with Spring Tool Suite 4. The workspace used to give an error and I wasn't able to select other workspace also. With the help of some answers already given, I could locate the configuration in $ECLIPSE_HOME\sts-4.7.1.RELEASE\configuration.settings\org.eclipse.epp.mpc.ui.prefs
I removed RECENT_WORKSPACES property (after you try to restart, it adds default entry again) and changed
SHOW_WORKSPACE_SELECTION_DIALOG=true
STS started showing workspace selection dialog again.
If Eclipse has been installed with ubuntu-make, the file location is ~/.local/share/umake/ide/eclipse-jee/configuration/.settings/org.eclipse.ui.ide.prefs.
I did a stupid thing and I added an incorrect URL to my list of plugin repositories in NetBeans, and now Plugins hangs my NetBeans whenever I try to open it. I suspect that if I were to remove this bad entry from the list all would be happy again. But I cannot use the GUI editor to remove the entry because it hangs. Which XML file specifies the repository list?
Using NetBeans 7.1 on Windows 7, the location for update center entries is
%userprofile%\.netbeans\7.1\config\Preferences\org\netbeans\modules\autoupdate{Name_Of_Provider}.properties
where {Name_Of_Provider} is the name that you gave the entry. Deleting this file will remove the entry from NetBeans. You will need to shutdown NetBeans before you delete this file or at least restart it to pick up the changes.
