We're encountering a problem while plotting the frequency of our signal with the surf()-function. As you can see in the picture below, it doesn't fully fill up the plot window. How do we adjust it so that the left plot fills out the graph as well as the right one (which is using spectrogram())?

You can use xlim and ylim to set the limits of the x and y axes. In your case, you could consider something like:
ylim([min(Frequency) max(Frequency)]

I need to plot two plots on same figure in MATLAB.
The maximum and minimum values in both the data samples have large variation, which I am unable to plot by taking same y-axis limits.
I do not wish to use two scales as explained in other Overlaying two axes in a Matlab plot but need to use a single y-axis and get the solution.
I tried the code:
x_axis_X = 1:length(S);
y_axis_Y = 1:length(N);
ylim([-1204200 -1841.6])
set(gcf,'color','w');
plot(x_axis_X, S,'o-', y_axis_Y, N, 'x-');
The result is as shown in the plot where one data sample is plotted without proper y-axis range.
The y limits for first data sample is -1204200 to -1841.6 and for the second it is -489429345.5 to -10408189.43.
How should be the ylim defined to fit both plots in the same figure?

In older versions of MATLAB use the function plotyy. In more recent versions of MATLAB use yyaxis. The following is the example from the documentation:
x = linspace(0,10);
y = sin(3*x);
yyaxis left
plot(x,y)
z = sin(3*x).*exp(0.5*x);
yyaxis right
plot(x,z)
ylim([-150 150])
I tried the idea of scaling one dataset so that it has a similar magnitude as the other data set. Here, I multiplied one dataset by 100 (or any suitable scaling parameter), and then it will be similar in size to the other data set. In order to clearly mention which data has been scaled in the graph I used the legend.
plot(x,data1,x,100*data2)
legend('data1','100*data2','location','southeast')

Scaling is not the best option, as you may need to work with the data later. Also does not work if for instance, you need a log scale.
Matlab has a few ways to deal it with. I particularly like to use a new axes in the figure, as i have done in the example below.

I have plotted to vectors against each other, and they are already logarithmic and everything is fine with that. But now that I have my plot i want the grid to be logarithmic. I write "grid on" in my code, and I think there should be a way to do this in the plot, but I can't remember how. How do I make the grid logarithmic?
If you use loglog, semilogx or semilogy instead of plot, the grid will automatically be on a log scale for the corresponding axes when using grid on.
If you have already plotted the axes, you can execute the following on the command line:
set(gca,'yscale','log') %# to set the y-axis to logarithmic
set(gca,'xscale','log') %# to set the x-axis to logarithmic
Have a look at axes properties to find out what else you can modify.
I'm the MatLab newbie and I need some help to create a linear and non-linear axis in one chart.
I need to make chart with 2 different X-axes. One X-axis displays 1000/T at the bottom and the second X-axis displays a T at the top of the chart.

This can be done by simply creating a second axes object at the same place as the first. Let's first create some data:
x1 = 1:0.1:3.5;
x2 = 1./x1;
y = (0.5*(x1-2)).^3;
Now we can create a normal plot with the first axes, and get the axes handle:
plot(x1,y,'-r');
ax(1) = gca;
Then we create the second axes object, at the same position as the first, and make the color none so it is transparent and the plot from below is still visible. As this adds a second Y axis too, we simply remove the Y ticks of the second axis.
ax(2) = axes('Position',ax(1).Position,'XAxisLocation','top','Color','none');
set(ax(2),'YTick',[]);
Now lets just format the second X axis as we like. Let's set the limits to the minimum and maximum of the x2 vector, and make it logarithmic:
set(ax(2),'XLim',[min(x2),max(x2)]);
set(ax(2),'XScale','log');
Now we still have the problem that the XTicks of ax(1) are also displayed at the top, and the XTicks of ax(2) are displayed at the bottom. This can be fixed by removing the box around the existing axes and creating a third axis without any ticks but with a box.
box(ax(1),'off');
box(ax(2),'off');
ax(3) = axes('Position',ax(1).Position,'XTick',[],'YTick',[],'Box','on','Color','none');
Now finally we can link the axes to be able to zoom correctly
linkaxes(ax);
And that should be it...

If you want the graph to focus on only a small set of y values and not change any of your data, use ylim:
ylim([0.95 1.05]);
This is assuming that your graph is already open and want to adjust that graph in focus. Also, this will adjust the y-axis of your plot while maintaining your data to be the same and show the dynamic range to go from 0.95 to 1.05. Your wording is very unclear, and judging from your plot and your wording, I believe this is what you're after (#LuisMendo - Mentalist).
I'm creating a simple GUI in MATLAB and I'm trying to create a figure that contains a 2d plot on an axes, all is working well, but I have a rough time trying to figure out how to fix the position of the axes/plot.
The axes seems to scale with the figure window size. If I maximize the figure on my screen, the axes is maximized within, etc. What I want to accomplish is to have a row of buttons beneath the plot on the same figure as the plot, basically an area of 50 (ish) pixels tall that the plot does not encroach on. I know how to do this in HTML, but I can't figure out a good way in MATLAB.
Any alternative approaches would also be greatly appreciated.
Change the units of the axes to anything other than 'normalized', like 'pixels'. Then it won't automatically resize with the figure. From this documentation page:
When you create a graph, MATLABĀ® creates an axes to display the graph. The axes is sized to fit in the figure and automatically resizes as you resize the figure. MATLAB applies the automatic resize behavior only when the axes Units property is set to normalized (the default).
Use set(gca,'Position',pos) where pos = [x y w h] to set the position and size of the axes in the units you chose.
See this answer for an example and a function for holding an axis size once you have it in place.
