Is there anyway to update column based on other column value in Slick2. In sql I would do it like this:
UPDATE table SET columna = columnb WHERE appropriate = true
Yes, but not using the "lifted embedded" (Scala collections style) of Slick.
You can:
Use plain SQL (the sqlu interpolator) to write your SQL to get that effect.
Use client-side update, where you read the rows, and update each row, and send it back to the database (possibly inside a transaction). Which is probably not what you want to do, but is an option.
For the lifted-embedded style, Slick issue 497 is worth tracking, as that's probably closest to the change you need.

What's the best approch to have a dynamic query like
select $dynamic_columns from table
But also prevent error like column not found and get result with available columns. considering $dynamic_columns is given by end users.
One approach would be to store the schema in java object and filter it. Again if schema is update in DB we will need to update the schema java object cache. is there any better way to handle this?
Be careful with this as it is more vulnerable to SQL injection.
Never let the user type something into a text field, instead build a
list for them to select from.
For building the list, I think the best approach is to use the JDBC method DatabaseMetaData.getColumns(...) to retrieve a list of columns for a table. I don't think there's a need to cache anything.
I have a job where I am getting a flow into tOracleOutput where I am updating the table. Now, I have to update that table using an SQL statement, which I guess we have option in Advanced settings of tOracleOuptut, but I don't know how to use it or you can say that I am not getting the settings properly. I referred to official documentation but could not understand. Can any one explain the fields like Name, SQL expression, Position, Reference Column in a better way?
the SQL query which I am using is:
update set COL1=SOMETHING1
where COL2=SOMETHING2
Now, value for COL1 is coming from the flow but COL2 is some column in the table which is not coming from the flow.
Have a look to tOracleRow for such a case.
Hope this helps.
TRF
Using tOracleOutput is helpful when a ready data source (table or file (...) with same columns as destination) the more elaborate your query is, the more you should do as TRF said (and use tOracleRow), but here's an example to your question:
file contain 3 column,
DB table of destination contains 4 column, where the 4th is the date of update, (the first 3 are identical to the input)
so you add the destination's column's name in Name and put the SQL function for the date (eg: SYSDATE) and where to put it (Position) in reference to a column of your choice (Reference Column)
In my view it helps avoid using tMap for a miserable additional column when you want to Insert, but you want to Update, in which case the component doesn't offer the additional column section, plus I don't think you can add the WHERE clause here
Hope it helps
I am using slick with play2.
I have multiple fields in the database which are managed by the database. I don't want to create or update them, however I want to get them while reading the values.
For example, suppose I have
case class MappedDummyTable(id: Int, .. 20 other fields, modified_time: Optional[Timestamp])
which maps Dummy in the database. modified_time is managed by the database.
The problem is during insert or update, I create an instance of MappedDummyTable without the modified time attribute and pass it to slick for create/update like
TableQuery[MappedDummyTable].insert(instanceOfMappedDummyTable)
For this, Slick creates query as
Insert INTO MappedDummyTable(id,....,modified_time) Values(1,....,null)
and updates the modified_time as NULL, which I don't want. I want Slick to ignore the fields while updating and creating.
For updating, I can do
TableQuery[MappedDummyTable].map(fieldsToBeUpdated).update(values)
but this leads to 20 odd fields in the map method which looks ugly.
Is there any better way?
Update:
The best solution that I found was using multiple projection. I created one projection to get the values and another to update and insert the data
maybe you need to write some triggers in table if you don't want to write code like row => (row.id,...other 20 fields)
or try use None instead of null?
I believe that the solution with mapping non-default field is the only way to do it with Slick. To make it less ugly you can define function ignoreDefaults on MappedDummyTable that will return only non default value and function in companion object to MappedDummyTable case class that returns projection
TableQuery[MappedDummyTable].map(MappedDummyTable.ignoreDefaults).insert(instanceOfMappedDummyTable.ignoreDefaults)
I have a generic code that is used to retrieve DDL information from a Firebird database (FB2.1). It generates SQL code like
SELECT * FROM MyTable where 'c' <> 'c'
I cannot change this code. Actually, if that matters, it is inside Report Builder 10.
The fact is that some tables from my database are becoming a litle too populated (>1M records) and that query is starting to take too long to execute.
If I try to execute
SELECT * FROM MyTable where SomeIndexedField = SomeImpossibleValue
it will obviously use that index and run very quickly.
Well, it wouldn´t be that hard to the database find out that that is an impossible matcher and make some sort of optimization and avoid testing it against each row.
Is there any way to make my firebird database to optimize that search?
As the filter condition is a negative proposition (and also doesn't refer a column to search, but only a value to compare to another value), Firebird need to do a full table scan (without use any index) to confirm that aren't any record that meet your criteria.
If you can't change you need to wait for the upcoming 3.0 version, that will implement the Boolean data type, and therefore should start to evaluate "constant" fake comparisons in advance (maybe the client library will do this evaluation before send the statement to the server?).
Is it possible to use the name of a table as a parameter in t-sql?
I want to insert data into a table, but I want one method in C# which has a parameter for the table.
Is this a good approach? I think if I have one form and I am choosing the table and fields to insert data into, I am essentially looking to write my own dynamic sql query built on the fly. This is another thing altogether which I am sure has its catches?
Thanks
Not directly. The only way to do this is through dynamic SQL - either EXEC or sp_ExecuteSQL. The latter has the advantage of query cache/re-use, and avoiding injection via parameters for the values - but you will have to concatenate the table-name itself into the query (you can't parameterise it), so be sure to white-list it against a list of known-good table names.
