How to remove a folder created by old version of application with files during upgrade in advanced installer - upgrade

Many thanks in advance, I am using advanced installer 12.1, the scenario is we have already installed application with some custom location feature and is extends the default application location, this installation creates some folders to store temporary files like "Temporary" folder, this folder is used by the application on every minute basis and hence there are some files in this folder, now issue is when i run a new build or try to install the new version of the application, i again select the another custom location, before finishing the installation the installer deleting all the folders installed with older version but not deleting the folders which contains files created by the application e.g the temporary directory above is deleted if it is empty but when it is non-empty it is not removed.
Solution i tried:
1) I used file Removal tool to remove the file, but i think it point the current location and not pointing the older application path.
2) A custom VB script, but again the same issue as #1
3) I tried uninstall cleanup wizard, result #1
Please guide me how i can delete that folder, any help would be appreciated.

install4j DMG archive, setting permissions on additional files?

Is it possible to change the permissions of files that get added to the DMG volume created by install4j (via Media->macOS single bundle archive->Installer options->DMG options and files->Additional Files in DMG->"+"-> Regular file)?
I am adding a separately uninstall.app (to uninstall pre-install4j versions of the Application) but the added executable file the uninstall.app runs ends up not being executable! (I have to add all of the files under uninstall.app individually)
I have a workaround which is to include the uninstall.app as a separate File set which gets embedded within the Application.app/Contents/Resources/app folder, and then creating a symbolic link in the DMG down to that, but I'd prefer to have the whole uninstall.app separated -- it can be run directly from the DMG.
Suggestion: Allow setting permissions of the additional files (or just preserve permissions). Also a recursive "copy folder into DMG" would be good, or alternatively allow copying of an already defined File set into the DMG?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the permissions as of install4j 8.0.

Visual Studio Code (VSCode) - how to update the standalone (.zip) version?

There is no "check for updates" when using the standalone/no install version.
What is best way to update a standalone version without losing settings etc.?
According to my experience (VSCode in a standalone .zip file uncompressed in D:\ using Win7 OS) you just need to download and uncompress the archive containing the new version (v 1.41.1).
When you run Code.exe in the new folder, your settings file is used and everithing is OK. (then, when you are really really sure that it is everithing OK, you could delete the old version).

From the official doc it says when downloaded through zip file, one has download the release manually for each update and place the unzip version inside the Program files (Windows).
According to the special portable page all the settings, plugins, etc. of the standalone version
are stored in the data-folder. So assuming you called your vscode-folder vscode:
download the new version
unpack to vscode2 folder adjacent to current vscode
move data folder from vscode to vscode2
delete old vscode-folder
rename vscode2 to vscode
done
P.S.: Current portable versions notify about new version, but clicking on it leads to download, so above list still applies.
Edit 2020/08/04: To make a "normal" install portable one just needs to create the data folder inside the installation/unpack directory of VSC.
To download the old archive, replace user|system with archive in the URL.

Add Enterprise Library 6 without powershell?

I've been trying to install Enterprise Library 6, and it's been a pain. I tried following Enterprise Library 6: Installation and VS2012 Configuration, but I'm having issues with the powershell command. I also tried opening install-packages.ps1 and pasting in powershell, and I keep continue errors. I'm not sure if it's my machine and the restrictions it has, but I don't want to go through this installation process just for one call to a stored procedure.
I rarely use powershell, and I don't want to start learning it today. Is there a way to just download the dlls needed and add them as reference to my project?
I had already added Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data as reference, and the project builds well, but when it runs, I get an error with one of the methods. It seems that there are other dlls I need to add (Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Common), among others.
I just want to download these dlls and add them as reference. I don't want to go through any installation process.
Is this possible? Thanks.
I downloaded Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.ConfigConsoleV6.vsix. Then I opened in winrar, copy/pasted Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Common.dll to my bin folder, and added as reference to my project.
Then I downloaded enterpriselibrary.data.6.0.1304.nupkg from nuget.org and opened it with winrar. Then I copy/pasted Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data.dll to my bin folder, and added as reference to my project.

Deploy files in the localState folder during installation of a store app

I am building an app for windows store and I need some default and example data to be in the localstate folder (Windows.Storage.ApplicationData.current.localFolder) when the app run the first time.
The folder and files structure is a bit complex and I tryed to copy the files at the start of the application, but I can't manage that way.
Is it possible to have files being copied automatically from the installation folder to the localstate folder during the store app installation?
Unfortunately, customization of the app install process isn't currently supported. You have to do this as part of your first run processing.
One possibility is that you include the data in your package as a .ZIP or other compressed file and use an appropriate library to expand that file into a folder structure on startup. That could simplify your logic considerably. (I don't have a library to recommend; it's just an idea.)

Installshield - Few files getting removed on major upgrade

I updated an installer file (.ism) for major upgrade in which I made the following changes:
updated product code,
updated package code,
updated versionmin and max in upgrade,
updated product version,
few strings in which old version was mentioned.
Now when I am upgrading my product using this setup, few files get removed automatically.
I did not make any changes in those files in target machine and the same files (no change in content) are in my new setup.
Also I did not add any entry in "RemoveFiles" table to remove them.
Also checked the installation log in which I am just seeing this:

Dynamic components are probably the problem.
This link is someone who was having a similar problem while patching (which is like a minor update)
Basically what is happening is that MSI has determined that the 'old' components have been removed (since they are dynamically generated, the GUIDs change every build). So in your upgrade it is removing the components you 'removed'. However it isn't laying down the new components, likely because it has determined there isn't a need for it to do so. You should examine your MSI file in Orca and look for the files/components that didn't get installed in your upgrade, and then search the install log for that GUID. That should give you a clue as to the next steps.
