Is there a way to do a search with GROUP BY ROLLUP like MySQL.
I am trying to get a summary of Year/Month/Day so I can build a single facet tree and show users the spread of results.
If it is not possible I am thinking that the only way would be to do a facet by DATE and summarise the tree in PHP.
ps. Currently I do facets but they are only at one level at a time, summarise all the years, when user selects a year I then filter that year and summarise all the months etc but I want to get a single summary in one go.
No, there is no 'WITH ROLLUP'.
Its common run a normal query alongside the group-by query (in fact FACET is a shorthand to do a normal query, along with a number of group by) - so you can get the sum count from the total_count of that query.

I am unable to understand how the top10 here is being derived.
Where am I going wrong?

You can filter to a selected portion of data in a calculation and use as desired. So create a calculated field called, say April_2017_Foobars, defined as:
if datetrunc('month', [Year_Month]) = #04/01/2017# then [Foobars] end
This field return [Foobars] for the April 2017 rows and null for other rows. Nulls are ignored by aggregate functions, so if you aggregate with SUM() or AVG() etc, the effect is to filter to April 2017 for that field alone.
Then you can use April_2017_Foobars for sorting and defining top filters for your Project field. This is a very general technique that is useful in all kinds of situations.
You can generalize it a bit to use a parameter for the special month rather than hard code it - or use an LOD calc to find the last month in your dataset if you always intend to use the latest month.
P.S. You can use the makedate() function instead of a date literal if you prefer and your data source supports that function. Might avoid any confusion about date literal formats being different in various countries.

Currently I have a crystal report that only shows orders which included a "Storm Door" OR a "Sunroom Component". However I would like it to only show orders that include BOTH "Storm Door" AND "Sunroom Component" within a order. Any suggestions on how the code for this might look?
I think you have answered your own question - If you want the report to retrieve records where BOTH products were ordered, you would use an AND statement - {Categories.Description} = "Storm Doors" and {Categories.Description} = BetterView Sunroom Compnents". However, the issue with duplicate records sounds like a problem with the design of the report. You could try a few things
Look at the table joins and verify they are setup correctly; if you have a 'one to many' join setup, you may be retrieving multiple rows for each record. If you joined Customer to Orders on the Customer_ID, you would get every single order for each customer, etc.
Click Database > Select Distinct Records - Depending on how your report is configured and which fields you are displaying, this may remove the undesired duplicates.
Change your grouping order - Instead of grouping by Category (Storm door, Subroom), group by Customer and then count the number of orders or use an aggregate function to give you the information you need.
I'm trying to sum the data points by Months instead of individual days. The data is originating from an SQL Query so I'm thinking this may be the only way to do that. However, I would much rather do this inside of Report Builder 3.0. Any hints on how to do this?
For example, I want to see the number of tickets for the Months of December and January as only two seperate data points.

I have a fairly simple problem, but I don't think I understand SSRS and scopes well enough to figure this out.
What I have is a case (one entity) that can have multiple appointments (another entity). Appointments have a date and a status. I want to display the next soonest appointment date and its status. To display the date I'm using
=Min(IIf(Fields!appt_start.Value > Globals!ExecutionTime, Fields!appt_start.Value, Nothing))
The idea is that I first pick only those appointments that occur in the future, and then grab the soonest one. It seems to work great.
Now, I need to apply the same filtering logic, but display the appointment status rather than the date. From my understanding, this is where scopes would come in. I could limit my scope to just the appointment I want, and then show its status. But I don't understand how to do that.
One way to go about this particular problem would be to use a filter in combination with the First function. Add a filter to the table to only show dates greater than the current day. Use a table row with no grouping and use expressions like this:
=First(Fields!appt_start.Value)
=First(Fields!appt_status.Value)
Another option would be to add calculated fields to the dataset to only populate values such as status when the date is greater than the current day. This is useful if you need to show more information later on.
Edit: Yes, you would want to sort the data by date for the First function to work right. You can actually filter at 3 different levels in SSRS. Right-click on your dataset and go to Dataset Properties. Click on Filters. Click Add. Fill in the expression, operator, and value to meet your need. You can also do this in the group properties or the table properties.
Question: Is there a way to build an export order while performing a script? I would prefer a FileMaker-native or FileMaker-called AppleScript solution, if one is possible.
Project: The project is a reporting tool which summarizes sales information (units, price, cost) by user-selectable criteria such as: week, quarter, year, location, product, supplier, etc. I would like a way to specify, at runtime, an export based on the user-selected criteria.
Example: If a user selected units sold summarized by supplier per quarter I would like to be able to have the script select:
Group by:
quarter
supplier
Export Order
quarter
units summary by quarter
supplier
units summary by supplier
There are obviously many permutations, so setting up an export for each individual export for each set of options is infeasible.
If the target format is text-based (i.e. tab- or comma-separated), then I'd export to XML and write a XSLT to summarize it as necessary. To pass parameters to the XSLT I normally export a small XML file to the same folder.
A solution I can think of is to export calculations rather than the original fields. With the example you give, assume that the user can export up to two fields. You create two calculation fields and two text fields. The text fields store the name of the field to export and the calculation fields use Evaluate (or GetField) to get the contents of the fields. It gets complicated if you're also exporting date and time fields, but it's still workable. If you need to include the field names in the export, you create an extra record and work your calculations for that record to contain the names of the fields the user has selected.
Not trivial, but still possible.
Building on Mikhail's and Chuck's suggestions, I think the best method for this particular project is going to be to build the contents of a .csv in a global field and then Export Field Contents. The basic outline of what I'm doing:
Go to the first record
Loop
WriteTheRows (see below), comma delimited, to a global field
Set $thisGroup to the count of records summarized by this summary field
Exit Loop If Get (CurrentRecord) + $thisGroup >= Get (FoundCount)
Go to record [Get (CurrentRecord) + $thisGroup]
End Loop
Export Field Contents [global field]
WriteTheRows is a custom function that does the following:
The output I'm trying to write can be sorted by up to 7 different criteria at the same time (for example: I could summarize supplier sales by quarter or I could summarize quarter sales by supplier)
Compare the highest level sort field's value to the last value we found for the highest level sort field.
If they're different WriteALine to the global field for this sort field, the next sort field, all sort fields down to the lowest level.
If they're the same, compare the (highest level sort field - 1) to the stored value for the (highest level sort field - 1)
If they're the same, WriteALine to the global field for the (highest level sort field - 1) on down to the lowest level sort field
... repeat until we're down to the lowest sort field
WriteALine is another custom function which adds the appropriate labels, commas and values using the GetSummary ( revenueSummary ; Evaluate ( "summaryField" & summaryFieldNumber ) as Chuck suggests in his answer.
