Simulink does not load data from .mat file - matlab

I am trying to load my data into my simulation model from .mat file in Simulink with "From file" block. I am using Matlab 2012a. My data file is one dimensional vecor of real numbers (type double) with dimensions 1x200.
When I run my simulation I am getting following error:
In Matlab preferences, I have already set the setting "Save MAT-files that can be loaded in" to option "Matlab version 7.3, or later", but this does not work. I would be thankful for any ideas.

As per the documentation in the From File block help (obtained by pressing the Help button on the block dialog):
Matrix format can be used only for vector, double, noncomplex signals. Each
column of the matrix must have a time stamp in the first row and a vector
containing the corresponding data sample in the subsequent rows.
Your 1x200 vector does not match this format. You need to add a first row that represents time.

how to edit an eeg data file?

i have a file : 30_19.1.20.eeg , which contains eeg data , i want to split this data into two halves . so first i imported the data file to matlab using the following :
i imported a 30_19.1.vhdr file into eeglab using : file->import data -> using eeg functions and plugins -> from brain vis. Rec.vhdr or ahdr file
after that i received in the matlab workplace the following :

basically i want to split this data into half .

Structures are variables which have "sub-variables" called properties inside them, a bit like directory / sub-directory structures.
Assuming the data in your eeg variable is called data, you can do the following to load the data into a new variable: m = eeg.data. If you want to load half of that data, assuming the half is in terms of numbers of rows, then you could write:
m = eeg.data(1:floor(size(eeg.data,1)/2),:);
You may want to "select data" from the continuous EEG dataset file. There are 2 options:
time range in seconds
point range (one-sample precision)
You have to apply this procedure twice (lower range, higher range) to get the 2 separate files.
After doing so, you can type EEG.history in the command window to get the Matlab code that has been executed.

Store signal values, output as vector for function input

Im trying to do some calculations in a Matlab (R2015b) Simulink function block. I use a signal that gives discrete values in 1-minute intervals.
What i want to do is store the signal values of 1 day (1440 values), convert them into a vector and input it in my Matlab function for calculation (getting time between first and last value > x). All while the simulation is running.
Unit delay, and Transport delay blocks wont work because i need all the stored values at once.
Any ideas on this are much appreciated!

You need to add a "To Workspace" block to your simulink diagram. Setting the options as you wish will allow you to save all the outputs in a single vector. You can select the variable's name, and the default is "simout".
Then, after running the diagram, you have the variable you want in the workspace (as if you had typed it in the console). So next, you can call your function with the argument.

MATLAB: making a histogram plot from csv files read and put into cells?

Unfortunately I am not too tech proficient and only have a basic MATLAB/programming background...
I have several csv data files in a folder, and would like to make a histogram plot of all of them simultaneously in order to compare them. I am not sure how to go about doing this. Some digging online gave a script:
d=dir('*.csv'); % return the list of csv files
for i=1:length(d)
m{i}=csvread(d(i).name); % put into cell array
end
The problem is I cannot now simply write histogram(m(i)) command, because m(i) is a cell type not a csv file type (I'm not sure I'm using this terminology correctly, but MATLAB definitely isn't accepting the former).
I am not quite sure how to proceed. In fact, I am not sure what exactly is the nature of the elements m(i) and what I can/cannot do with them. The histogram command wants a matrix input, so presumably I would need a 'vector of matrices' and a command which plots each of the vector elements (i.e. matrices) on a separate plot. I would have about 14 altogether, which is quite a lot and would take a long time to load, but I am not sure how to proceed more efficiently.
Generalizing the question:
I will later be writing a script to reduce the noise and smooth out the data in the csv file, and binarise it (the csv files are for noisy images with vague shapes, and I want to distinguish these shapes by setting a cut off for the pixel intensity/value in the csv matrix, such as to create a binary image showing these shapes). Ideally, I would like to apply this to all of the images in my folder at once so I can shift out which images are best for analysis. So my question is, how can I run a script with all of the csv files in my folder so that I can compare them all at once? I presume whatever technique I use for the histogram plots can apply to this too, but I am not sure.
It should probably be better to write a script which:
-makes a histogram plot and/or runs the binarising script for each csv file in the folder
-and puts all of the images into a new, designated folder, so I can sift through these.
I would greatly appreciate pointers on how to do this. As I mentioned, I am quite new to programming and am getting overwhelmed when looking at suggestions, seeing various different commands used to apparently achieve the same thing- reading several files at once.
The function csvread returns natively a matrix. I am not sure but it is possible that if some elements inside the csv file are not numbers, Matlab automatically makes a cell array out of the output. Since I don't know the structure of your csv-files I will recommend you trying out some similar functions(readtable, xlsread):
M = readtable(d(i).name) % Reads table like data, most recommended
M = xlsread(d(i).name) % Excel like structures, but works also on similar data
Try them out and let me know if it worked. If not please upload a file sample.
The function csvread(filename)
always return the matrix M that is numerical matrix and will never give the cell as return.
If you have textual data inside the .csv file, it will give you an error for not having the numerical data only. The only reason I can see for using the cell array when reading the files is if the dimensions of individual matrices read from each file are different, for example first .csv file contains data organised as 3xA, and second .csv file contains data organised as 2xB, so you can place them all into a single structure.
However, it is still possible to use histogram on cell array, by extracting the element as an array instead of extracting it as cell element.
If M is a cell matrix, there are two options for extracting the data:
M(i) and M{i}. M(i) will give you the cell element, and cannot be used for histogram, however M{i} returns element in its initial form which is numerical matrix.
TL;DR use histogram(M{i}) instead of histogram(M(i)).

Loading data to simulink (Invalid matrix-format)

When I'm trying load data, from Matlab to Simulink, I get this error:
Error using TSFPnew (line 191)
Invalid matrix-format variable specified as workspace input in 'modelTSFP/From Workspace5'. The matrix
must have two dimensions and at least two columns. Complex signals of any data type and non-double
real signals must be in structure format. The first column must contain time values and the remaining
columns the data values. Matrix values cannot be Inf or NaN.

Why I can't just load it to the Simulink space?
The error message is pretty self-explanatory: the data in the From Workspace block represents a time dependent variable so if you are using an array, the first column of the array must be the time values and the second (or more) columns the corresponding data points. Check the documentation for more details. Your data appears to be only vectors, where is the corresponding time data for your values?
If you want a parameter (that doesn't vary with time), then don't use a From Workspace block, use a Constant block instead.

using from workspace block in simulink

how to use the "from workspace block in simulink" ?
I have tried using the from workspace block by given 10*2 matrix as input. it is appending some extra data along the data I have given .
and I have such 3 such blocks and want to know how I merge them.
Read the documentation. Simulink is time-based so the data in your From Workspace block must be as a function of time. Does your 10 x 2 matrix represent a signal as a function of time? If so, it needs to be as follows:
A two-dimensional matrix:
The first element of each matrix row is a
time stamp.
The rest of each row is a scalar or vector of signal
values.
The leftmost element of each row is the time stamp of the
value(s) in the rest of the row.
10 values isn't very much, it's likely that Simulink will need additional data points at intermediate times, if you have the Interpolate Data check box ticked. If not, "the current output equals the output at the most recent time for which data exists".
I think you may have a misunderstanding of the variables intended to be read by the FromWorkspace block.
The block expects a time series defining the value at various points in the simulation.
The From Workspace block help should point you in the right direction on this. Mathworks Help Documentation
