Adding external jars in netbeans for rest service in glassfish - rest

I'm trying to create a simple REST Service using the Web App project type in Netbeans 8.1, with JDK 1.8 and to be deployed in Glassfish Server 4.1.1.
I need to use external libraries to provide the service functionality, i.e. tika and lucene.
My problem is that If I add any jar (Right-click -> Add jar/folder: tika-app-1.12.jar) in the Libraries of my Nb project I get:

I have tried adding the jar file in glassfish/lib, glassfish/domains/<mydomain>/lib and glassfish/domains/<mydomain>/lib/ext but the error persists.
Note that these errors show up as soon as I add the jar in the Nb libraries folder, whether I reference them in my code or not.
If I remove the jars the service gets deployed without error and I can also invoke it correctly and get the appropiate response.
Any insight in the correct way to deal with these external libraries is greatly appreciated.

Ok, I think I have figured it out.
To be able to use the external libraries:
Don't package them in the war file. In Nb: go to Project Properties -> Libraries -> Compile-time libraries. Then uncheck the Package box for all the listed libraries.
Copy all the .jar libraries to the <domains-folder>/<your-domain-name>/lib. Be aware that your domain folder may not be in the installation directory of Glassfish. You can check the Server properties in Nb (Go to Services tab -> right-click Glassfish server -> Properties -> Common -> Domains Folder)
Use delegation inversion model in the Servlet. To do this, set delegate="false" in the class-loader element of the glassfish-web.xml file.
This worked for me. I hope I can help anyone else in a similar situation.

You can download and include the XmlSchema jar in the lib folder of your dynamic web project /WebContent/WEB_INF folder.
But, this will only solve the problem temporarily. On creating WS client the XMLSchema jar will not get included. So check the compatibility of the version of your server with axis2 version (like Tomcat 6 created problem with axis2 1.7 but works fine with axis2 1.5.2).
On successful compatibility the XMLSchema jar will get included in the respective folder automatically.
You can correct your issue by referencing the XmlSchema jar in the lib folder. You can find the latest version of the jar file in the link below.

Hibernate Setup in eclipse helios

How I can setup Hibernate for a Dynamic Web application by using Eclipse Helios? I am a newbe so please let me know if there is any example.
I tried for Java application and included all JARS and it worked fine. But don't understand how I can do it for Web application and test it.
I will use Struts2 so I will appreciate if I can get appropriate example or guidance.
Drop the jars in WEB-INF/lib. Those jars are automatically added by Eclipse to the project build path, and constitute (with the WEB-INF/classes directory and the container classpath) the classpath of the webapp.

First, download Struts2, and import example WAR file into Eclipse. You can find it from the source folder: struts-2.3.1-all\struts-2.3.1\apps\struts2-blank.war
Second, you should install Eclipse Hibernate Plugin. Goto Window > Preferences > Install/Update > Available Software Sites and add following link and name it JBossTools or something.

Depending on your needs you can install Hibernate Plugins for many project types. In this case, select web application plugin.
And after, you should include Hibernate Core libraries into your classpath. I would recomment Hibernate 3.6 and greater. Because it does not depend on asm (asm-3.3.jar, asm-commons-3.3.jar ...) anymore. If you use earlier versions you might encounter some problems, since Struts2 also depend on asm libraries.
Then create your database, and use following link to configure and generate model bean classes.

Spring can't find a lib and webapp doesn't start up in tomcat 6

I've this problem using STS: I'm building a simple Spring app, just to try out features like MVC and persistence. Now I've created something very simple, out of a bunch of tutorials for Spring 3, that I'm using. The application fails with this, during server startup:

but I've org.springframework.orm in web-inf/classes folder (I even tried putting it in web-inf/lib). As I copied these libs there, the came out in Web App Libraries folder. Building this project in STS works fine as this dependency is set up in build path throught project properties, but how do I transfer the libs to the web app? (I'm using Tomcat 6 as it is the server I'm going to use sometime in the future for production). Is this a config problem of my XML? Or am I just missing the right way to put this lib? (I encountered the same problem before, but adding the needed lib in classes worked it out). Go to the Servers view and double click on Tomcat Server which will open up a Tomcat Overview page. This will show you the server path and deploy path which Eclipse is using to publish your webapps to.
For example, mine are:
Server path: .metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.wst.server.core\tmp0
Deploy path: wtpwebapps
Now in a Command Prompt (or Explorer) browse to %ECLIPSE_HOME%\workspaces\default\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.wst.server.core\tmp0\wtpwebapps and you should see your webapp. Go into the WEB-INF\lib directory and check if your jar is there.
A few things to try:
If the jar is not in WEB-INF\lib, you might need to republish it. Right-click on the Tomcat in the Servers view and click Publish. Does it appear? If not, Right-click on the Tomcat again and this time select Clean... which will clean out everything and republish. If this doesn't work, the brute force approach would be to delete the files manually and then tell Eclipse to republish them.
Clean your work directory, by right-clicking the webapp under Tomcat in the Servers view and selecting Clean module work directory. Or do it manually by deleting from %ECLIPSE_HOME%\workspaces\default\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.wst.server.core\tmp0\work\Catalina\localhost
You should also try closing-reopening/cleaning/rebuilding/refreshing your webapp project just in case Eclipse hasn't picked up the changes.
You need to put the various Spring JARs into your WEB-INF/lib directory (WEB-INF/classes is no use for JAR files).
You don't just need org.springframework.orm, you need most of them (see here for dependency diagram).
At least the libary jar files must be located at WEB-INF/lib within your war file. And you only need to deploy the war file to your productiv web server.
If you use STS but your Project is not a Maven project: then you need to put the files in <projectRoot>/WebContent/WEB-INF/libs .(to build the war with Eclipse/STS you need to execute Export/Web/WAR file.)
If you use Maven, then you need the specify your dependencies in the pom.xml, and use maven to package the war (run as/Maven package).

How to install JDBC driver in Eclipse web project without facing java.lang.ClassNotFoundexception

There is a VERY similar question to mine but in my case I don't have any duplicate jars in my build path, so the solution does not work for me. I've searched google for a couple of hours now, but none of the solutions I've found there actually resolve my issue. I'm creating a web site with some database connectivity for a homework. I'm using a MySQL database, developing in Eclipse and running on Windows.
I keep getting java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.mysql.jdbc.Driver with the following code:

It doesn't get past the Class.forName... line and I can't figure out why! Here is what I did:
Download mysql-connector.
Put it in my MySQL folder C:\Program Files\MySQL\mysql-connector-java-5.1.12\mysql-connector-java-5.1.12-bin.jar.
Opened the project properties in Eclipse.
Add External Jar to my Build Path and I selected mysql-connector-java-5.1.12-bin.jar.
Every time I attempt to use the servlet I get the same error regardless if I have the jar in there or if I don't. Could you help me figure this out?
As for every "3rd-party" library in flavor of a JAR file which is to be used by the webapp, just copy/drop the physical JAR file in webapp's /WEB-INF/lib. It will then be available in webapp's default classpath. Also, Eclipse is smart enough to notice that. No need to hassle with buildpath. However, make sure to remove all unnecessary references you added before, else it might collide.
An alternative is to install it in the server itself by dropping the physical JAR file in server's own /lib folder. This is required when you're using server-provided JDBC connection pool data source which in turn needs the MySQL JDBC driver.

Since you are running it in servlet, you need to have the jar accessible by the servlet container. You either include the connector as part of your application war or put it as part of the servlet container's extended library and datasource management stuff, if it has one. The second part is totally depend on the container that you have.
The others are right about making the driver JAR available to your servlet container. My comment was meant to suggest that you verify from the command line whether the driver itself is intact.
Rather than an empty main(), try something like this, adapted from the included documentation:

On my platform, I'd do this:

On your platform, you need to use ; as the path separator, as discussed here and here.
Place mysql-connector-java-5.1.6-bin.jar to the \Apache Tomcat 6.0.18\lib folder. Your problem will be solved.

Another solution that i do NOT recommend is: to copy it into tomcat/lib folder. although this may work, it will be hard to manage dependency for a shared(git for example) project.
Good solution 1
Create vendor folder. put there all your external lib. then, map this folder as dependency to your project. in eclipse you need to
add your folder to the build path
Project Properties -> Java build path
Libraries -> add external lib or any other solution to add your files/folder
add your build path to deployment Assembly (reference)
Project Properties -> Deployment Assembly
Add -> Java Build Path Entries
You should now see the list of libraries on your build path that you can specify for inclusion into your finished WAR.
Select the ones you want and hit Finish.
Good solution 2
Use maven (or any alternative) to manage project dependency
Just follow these steps:
1) Install eclipse
2) Import Apache to eclipse
3) Install mysql
4) Download mysqlconnector/J
5) Unzip the zipped file navigate through it until you get the bin file in it. Then place all files that are present in the folder containing bin to C:\Program Files\mysql\mysql server5.1/
then give the same path as the address while defining the driver in eclipse.
That's all very easy guys.
If the problem still persists,
Put the-
mysql-connector-java-5.0.8-bin jar in a place inside your Tomcat->lib->folder (No matter where you've installed your Tomcat). And change your environmental variable (Done by clicking Properties of Mycomputer -Advanced system settings- Environmental variables-And set a new variable name & variable values as the place where your lib file resides.Dont forget to enter a ; at the end of the path)
If still problem persists
Try downloading commons-collections-2.0.jar (http://www.docjar.com/jar_detail/commons-collections-2.0.jar.html) and paste the jar in the same place where your mysql jar resides (ie) inside Tomcat-lib.
Clean your project-Stop your server- Finally try to run.
Many times I have been facing this problem, I have experienced ClassNotFoundException.
if jar is not at physical location.
So make sure .jar file(mysql connector) in the physical location of WEB-INF lib folder. and
make sure restarting Tomcat by using shutdown command in cmd.
it should work.
The only solution worked for me is putting the .jar file under WEB-INF/lib . Hope this will help.

My issue was a little different. Instead of jdbc:oracle:thin:#server:port/service i had it as server:port/service.
Missing was jdbc:oracle:thin:# in url attribute in GlobalNamingResources.Resource. But I overlooked tomcat exception's

for this error:

you need to:
Import java.sql.*;
Import com.mysql.jdbc.Driver;
even if its not used till app running.

How to use 3rd party libraries in glassfish?

I need to connect to a MongoDB instance from my EJB3 application, running on glassfish 3.0.1. The Mongo project provides a set of drivers, and I'm able to use them in a standalone Java application.
How would I use them in a Java EE application? Or maybe better phrasing: how would I make a 3rd party library available to my application when it runs in an EJB container?

I tried adding it to the NetBeans project (Properties -> Libraries -> Compile -> Add Jar, enable 'Package'), and I also tried manually copying the jar file to $GF_HOME/glassfish/domains/domain1/lib (where the mysql-connector already resides).
Do I need to 'register' the library with the container? Reference it via Annotation? Extend the classpath of the container to include the library?
Hmm... Shouldn't you put this "driver" in glassfishv3/glassfish/domains/domain1/lib/ext?
You could put shared libs to lib/ext of your domain. commons-logging and jdbc drivers are often added in this domain path.
Common Class Loader
GlassFish v2 has a well defined Class
Loader hierarchy which identifies the
common class loader as the proper way
to deal with shared libraries. So to
make a long story short, putting you
libraries and other framework JARs in
domains/domain1/lib is all you need to
do.

-Djava.ext.dirs which makes any of its JARs be considered as a JDK extension
which means web app frameworks placed
there will be loaded before

I face the same problem in my project and then I put all my Third party libraries in domain/domain1/lib and my problem solved. On other way round, my problem was solved too by putting libraries in glassfish/lib.
In my case I was using Oracle Express Edition 11gR2 and Glassfish 3.1.2 and the ONLY way that works in my case was putting the ojdbc6 in:
C:\Program Files\glassfish-3.1.2.2\glassfish\lib
Go to your Glassfish doamin directory.
Then go to lib folder.
Place the libraries there.
Restart the glassfish and run.
(Ex) C:\glassfish3\glassfish\domains\domain1\lib
Try to put Your libs into $GF_HOME/glassfish/modules/.
It's dirty, but will work.
