Define end of line and remove double quotes when concatenating files - powershell

I need to concatenate multiple text files (skipping the headers) into one big file using PowerShell. Currently I'm using this command:
Get-Content *.txt |
Select-String -Pattern "^[1-9]" |
Select-Object line |
Export-Csv mybigfile.txt
I now have two issues:
How to define the end of line? It will automatically use CRLF and I need only LF like in the source files.
How to remove double quotes? It will automatically add double quotes around each line and around columns that are already double quoted in the source files.
Example:
Source input:
h1,h2,h3,h4
3145,"blabla",4568,""LF
Current output:
"3145,""blabla"",4568,""""CRLF

3145,"blabla",4568,""LF

PowerShell cmdlets use the system's default line terminator (CR-LF), so they can't do what you want. Use a StreamWriter instead:

Use the Get-ChildItem cmdlet with the -Filter parameter to retrieve all text files, load the content using Get-Content and skip the first line using the Select-Object cmdlet and the -skip parameter.
You then have a string array which you can join together by LF and finally write the file using the Out-File cmdlet:

As above, the quotations are valid for csv, but to remove them you need to escape the quote mark in the replace operation as is a special character:

Why are you manually in a text editor read Csv files?
You exported them to that format for a reason. To read them, just import them back in and view them on screen and or Read them back in and send the readout to notepad for reading.

Notepad # then press crtl+v, then save the notepad file with a new name.
If you don't want Csv, then don't export as Csv, just output as a flat-file, using Out-File instead.

Since your last comment to me indicated your final use case. CSV into SQL is a very common thing. A quick web search will show you how even provide you with a script. You should also be looking at the PowerShell DBATools module.

An extra double quote can be used to escape a double quote in a string:

After you have exported the CSV file with Export-CSV, you can use Get-Content to load the CSV file into an array of strings, then use Set-Content and replace to remove the quotation marks:

Change and save .nc files

I have a massive amount of .nc files (text files) where I need to change different lines based on their linenumer and content.
Example:
So far I have:

This is not working, however, since it returns only a few PowerShell lines to each file, instead of the original (changed) content.
I don't know what you expect $c = $c.GetType() | Format-Table -AutoSize to do, but it most likely doesn't do whatever it is you're expecting.
If I understand your question correctly you essentially want to
remove the line pos,
replace the code S355J2 with S235JR2, and
remove a section SI if it exists.
The following code should work:

Out-String mangles the content of the input file into a single string, and the daisy-chained replacement operations modify that string before it's written back to the file. The expression (?m)^SI\r\n(\s+.*\n)+ matches a line beginning with SI and followed by one or more indented lines. The (?m) modifier is to allow matching start-of-line in a multiline string, otherwise ^ would only match the beginning of the string.
Edit: If you need to replace variable text in the 3rd line with the text from the 4th line (thus duplicating the 4th line) you're indeed better off working with an array for that. Delay the mangling of the string array until after that replacement:

Filtering sections of data including the starting and ending lines- PowerShell

I have a text file that looks like this:
Data I'm NOT looking for
More data that doesn't matter
Even more data that I don't
&Start/Finally the data I'm looking for

&Data/I need this too
&Stop/Okay now I'm done
Ending that I don't need
Here is what the output needs to be:

I need to do this for every file in a folder (sometimes there will be multiple files that will need to be filtered.) The files names can be incrementing: ex. File1.txt, File2.txt, File3.txt.

Looks like you were pretty close: your code correctly extracted the paragraphs of interest, but intra-paragraph out-filtering of non-&-starting lines was missing, and you needed to write to paragraph-specific output files:

This creates sequentially numbered files starting with File1.txt for every paragraph of interest.
To do it for every file in a folder, with output filenames using fixed naming scheme File<n> across all input files (and thus cumulative numbering):

Loop through a CSV Column

I have a short script in which I am recursively searching for a string and writing out some results. However I have hundreds of strings to search for, so I would like to grab the value from a CSV file use it as my string search and move to the next row.
Here is what I have:

How can I run through a CSV to assign the $num value for each line?
Do you have a CSV with several columns, one of which you want to use as search values? Or do you have a "regular" text file with one search pattern per line?
In case of the former, you could read the file with Import-Csv:
$filename = 'C:\path\to\your.csv'
$searchRoot = 'C:\Users\user\Desktop\SearchFolder\input'
foreach ($pattern in (Import-Csv $filename | % {$_.colname})) {
Get-ChildItem $searchRoot -Recurse | Select-String $pattern -Context 2 | ...
}
In case of the latter a simple Get-Content should suffice:
$filename = 'C:\path\to\your.txt'
$searchRoot = 'C:\Users\user\Desktop\SearchFolder\input'
foreach ($pattern in (Get-Content $filename})) {
Get-ChildItem $searchRoot -Recurse | Select-String $pattern -Context 2 | ...
}
I assume you need something like this
$csvFile = Get-Content -Path "myCSVfile.csv"
foreach($line in $csvFile)
{
$lineArray = $line.Split(",")
if ($lineArray -and $lineArray.Count -gt 1)
{
#Do a search num with the value from the csv file
searchNum -num $lineArray[1]
}
}
This will read a csv file and call you function for each line. The parameter given will be the value in the csv file (the second item on the csv line)
