I am trying to implement a WebAPI 2, using C#. Everything is working fine on my development setup, but when I deploy it to the live server, the DELETE function is causing an error.
I've stripped the function right to the basics, and still it causes an error. All other API calls continue to work fine.
The code is:
[HttpDelete]
public string Delete(int id)
{
return "delete";
}
The error is:
<div id="content">
<div class="content-container"><fieldset>
<h2>500 - Internal server error.</h2>
<h3>There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.</h3>
</fieldset></div>
</div>

Please help, it's doing my nut in now!
Crosscheck following:
1. Are you really passing int values as id.
2. Is Cors policy enabled on Delete method'c controller.
3. Are you sending any data object in body, If yes then check its correctness with corresponding class.
4. use ( [FromRoute] int Id) as parameter.
I hope it will work for you.
After some digging, I have managed to find the answer.
Basically, the problem was due to how IIS handles modules and request handlers. By default, WebDAV will be configured to listen to PUT and DELETE requests. Normally WebDAV will be disabled on your server, however this doesn't remove the bindings, any PUT and DELETE requests will still be passed to WebDAV, which will reject them due to it being disabled.
You need to remove WebDAV via the web config, as follows:
<modules>
<remove name="WebDAVModule"/>
</modules>
<handlers>
<remove name="WebDAV" />
</handlers>
You need both of these entries for it to work. I only had the remove module entry in my web.config.

This is my web.config file, I am getting 500 exception after I have deployed project in azure server, If I remove V2 in modules application runs, but it runs on kestrel not in IIS.

I'm having issues trying to log in to a CRM Online organization through the use of the latest version of the Xrm Tooling nuget package using the connection string constructor from a custom powershell cmdlet.
I'm receiving a rather unhelpful "Unable to Login to Dynamics CRM" error message and am attempting to enable tracing to troubleshoot but have not been able to enable it by modifying the .dll.config file like the below (taken from an XrmToolbox issue on GitHub):
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<configuration>
<system.diagnostics>
<trace autoflush="true" />
<sources>
<source name="Microsoft.Xrm.Tooling.Connector.CrmServiceClient"
switchName="Microsoft.Xrm.Tooling.Connector.CrmServiceClient"
switchType="System.Diagnostics.SourceSwitch">
<listeners>
<add name="console" type="System.Diagnostics.DefaultTraceListener" />
<remove name="Default" />
<add name ="fileListener" />
</listeners>
</source>
<source name="Microsoft.Xrm.Tooling.CrmConnectControl"
switchName="Microsoft.Xrm.Tooling.CrmConnectControl"
switchType="System.Diagnostics.SourceSwitch">
<listeners>
<add name="console" type="System.Diagnostics.DefaultTraceListener" />
<remove name="Default" />
<add name ="fileListener" />
</listeners>
</source>
</sources>
<switches>
<!--

<add name="Microsoft.Xrm.Tooling.Connector.CrmServiceClient" value="Verbose" />
<add name="Microsoft.Xrm.Tooling.CrmConnectControl" value="Verbose" />
<add name="Microsoft.Xrm.Tooling.WebResourceUtility" value="Verbose" />
</switches>
<sharedListeners>
<add name="fileListener" type="System.Diagnostics.TextWriterTraceListener" initializeData="XRMToolingLogs.log" />
<!--<add name="eventLogListener" type="System.Diagnostics.EventLogTraceListener" initializeData="XRMTooling" />-->
</sharedListeners>
</system.diagnostics>
</configuration>
I was able to work around this by configuring the listener programmatically through:
Microsoft.Xrm.Tooling.Connector.TraceControlSettings.TraceLevel = System.Diagnostics.SourceLevels.All;
Microsoft.Xrm.Tooling.Connector.TraceControlSettings.AddTraceListener(new TextWriterTraceListener("log.txt"));
Which pointed me to the actual error which was that the CrmServiceClient was expecting a URL with the organization unique name instead of the URL name.
After extensive Googling I can't seem to find a solution to this issue. In a nutshell I'm using Oracle Managed Data Access client with EF 6 in a MVC/Web API application.
When I run locally I can make successful calls to various operations in the Web API 2 controllers. No problems.
When I publish to our staging server, I immediately get this error:
"Message:The underlying provider failed on Open.-Inner:Oracle.ManagedDataAccess.Client.OracleException (0x80004005): ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied\r\n at OracleInternal.ConnectionPool.PoolManager
Obviously the username/password are fine when I run locally so I feel that I'm missing putting them into a location in my web.config.
Here is my web config, you can see I'm using the entire TNS string for the Datasource value in the connection string. When I don't do that, the staging site shows an error of - TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified

Thanks to this thread: Oracle.ManagedDataAccess and ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
I have an Azure Website that I use to host my MVC + Entity Framework project. When I run the site locally using the same connection to my SQL Azure database, everything works perfectly, but when I deploy the site to my Azure Website, I get the following error:
Format of the initialization string does not conform to specification starting at index 0.
I followed the steps in several other posts and added the connection string to the thrown error and this is what the connection string comes out to be:
Server=tcp:abcde1fgh2.database.windows.net,1433;Database=SalesLeads;User ID=username_test#abcde1fgh2;Password=Password;Trusted_Connection=False;Encrypt=True;Connection Timeout=30;
This string matches the connection string that is used locally.
Why would this work locally with the same string, but not remotely?
EDIT
Here is the full web.config for the site:

You should FTP into your Azure website and also check your connection string there in your web.config.
When you publish your site your web.config gets transformed/modified by Azure so it can be that this process messes up something with your connection string which leads to this error. For example if you setup your connection string through the web portal maybe during some copy/pasting the encoding is messed up, etc.
10/2/17 - Using Azure Web App + ASP.NET MVC (.NET 4.6.1) + Entity Framework (latest). For a quick fix, I put the connection string in code and it worked:
public class MyDbContext : DbContext
{
private const string connectionString = "Server=tcp:MYDB.database.windows.net,1433;Initial Catalog=MYDBNAME;Persist Security Info=False;User ID=MYUSERID;Password=MYPW;MultipleActiveResultSets=False;Encrypt=True;TrustServerCertificate=False;Connection Timeout=30;";
public MyDbContext() : base(connectionString)
{
}
}
By some research around this, I found out the error occurs in the following possible cases :
Possibility 1: You are probably using the wrong DbConnection class. If you are using Access then make sure you use OleDbConnection, not SqlConnection ... and vice versa.
Possibility 2: It indicates that the issue is in some way database related, But the issue is linked to the APP POOL identity way of running web sites on IIS. There is some background on what this means here in Application Pool Identities. We have noticed that we tend not to see the issue on sites which are configured in the more old fashioned way, which is to create a new 'IUSR' user account on the server, then add this user to the IIS users group, and then set the site to use this user rather than the APP POOL identity. Ensure the password expiry issue is sorted on your main admin account on the server. And if this does not resolve the issue, to create a new 'IUSR' Windows user account, and set the site up to use this rather than the APP POOL identity. On shared hosting, this may not be possible, but dealing with the admin password expiry is something the host may still be able to address.
In my case, I forgot to wrap the SQL_URI in
#Microsoft.KeyVault(SecretUri=SQL_URI)
That happened in my Web App > Configuration > Connection String > Value
I created a new ASP.NET MVC 4 application based on Internet application template, I could succesfully run it and authenticate user from within VS 2012 Express.
Then published it to a folder in wwwroot, then in IIS 7.5 manager created a virtual directory pointing to that folder, and converted it to an application using a separate 4.0 integrated pool.
When I tried to browse the application from within the IIS manager I get the next error:
HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error,

As I am a poorly skilled developer in MVC 4, I would ask if someone could find out the malformed xml element in the file above.
This is true for ASP.NET WebAPI 5.2 too..
I had
<add name="ExtensionlessUrlHandler-Integrated-4.0" path="*." verb="*" type="System.Web.Handlers.TransferRequestHandler" preCondition="integratedMode,runtimeVersionv4.0" />
<add name="ExtensionlessUrlHandler-Integrated-4.0" path="*." verb="GET,HEAD,POST,DEBUG,PUT,DELETE,PATCH,OPTIONS" type="System.Web.Handlers.TransferRequestHandler" preCondition="integratedMode,runtimeVersionv4.0" />
Which I changed to
<add name="ExtensionlessUrlHandler-Integrated-4.0a" path="*." verb="*" type="System.Web.Handlers.TransferRequestHandler" preCondition="integratedMode,runtimeVersionv4.0" />
<add name="ExtensionlessUrlHandler-Integrated-4.0b" path="*." verb="GET,HEAD,POST,DEBUG,PUT,DELETE,PATCH,OPTIONS" type="System.Web.Handlers.TransferRequestHandler" preCondition="integratedMode,runtimeVersionv4.0" />
Thats it.. It worked.
you have the same name in twice. the name must be unique.
current config
<add name="ExtensionlessUrlHandler-Integrated-4.0" path="*." verb="GET,HEAD,POST,DEBUG,PUT,DELETE,PATCH,OPTIONS" type="System.Web.Handlers.TransferRequestHandler" preCondition="integratedMode,runtimeVersionv4.0"/>
<add name="ExtensionlessUrlHandler-Integrated-4.0" path="*." verb="*" type="System.Web.Handlers.TransferRequestHandler" resourceType="Unspecified" requireAccess="Script" preCondition="integratedMode,runtimeVersionv4.0" />
change to
<add name="ExtensionlessUrlHandler-Integrated-4.0a" path="*." verb="GET,HEAD,POST,DEBUG,PUT,DELETE,PATCH,OPTIONS" type="System.Web.Handlers.TransferRequestHandler" preCondition="integratedMode,runtimeVersionv4.0"/>
<add name="ExtensionlessUrlHandler-Integrated-4.0b" path="*." verb="*" type="System.Web.Handlers.TransferRequestHandler" resourceType="Unspecified" requireAccess="Script" preCondition="integratedMode,runtimeVersionv4.0" />
I experienced a similar problem to this.
what worked for me was to remove, then re-add the handler:
My guess is that if by default this is enabled in the IIS Server already, it may trigger this error.
I am using IIS 10, MVC 5, .NET Framework 4.6.1
Hope this helps :-)
