My 2013 Crystal Report suddenly gave me this error:
Failed to retrieve data from the database. Details: [Database Vendor Code: 8169]
I created a new database connection and changed the connection, and when I click Verify Database it tells me the database is up to date. How can I resolve this issue?
Even though the database connection is okay, your query may be bad, or there is some other database component making the data retrieval fail. Easiest way is to run the query or queries in the Crystal Report in a database client tool. For example, with Oracle, you can use SQL Developer to run the query manually.
SQL Server should have its own client tool as well.

I'm trying to setup an easily-replicable (or even manual and I do it once a month or so) process for moving data from a large Azure PostgreSQL database to a more manageable Azure SQL database for end users that are most familiar with SQL Server. I've successfully connected to the PostgreSQL database via PGAdmin, so I know all my connection string info.
I started by installing the latest ODBC driver from here.
I then used a connection string which was given to me from the Azure portal, filled in the proper database name and password, and attempted to use the following drivers:
PostgreSQL ODBC Driver(UNICODE)
PostgreSQL ODBC Driver(ANSI)
I am getting the following error with either of them:
ERROR [IM002] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified
What step am I missing in this process? Or how best can I troubleshoot this?
After more research, I attempted to add the ODBC driver here:
And got the following error (I'm not sure why Tableau is relevant to this?):
Thank you.
Getting the following error:
DataSource.Error: ODBC: ERROR [HY000] [MySQL][ODBC 1.0(a) Driver][mysqld-5.7.12 mongosqld v2.6.0-beta3]Unknown database ''
Details:
DataSourceKind=Odbc
DataSourcePath=dsn=DigitalTeam
OdbcErrors=Table
As shown in the image the error arise as i am trying to get the data from Reports collection from test Database. How can I solve this problem?
Per the comment by CodeCaster the most likely scenario of you getting a successful connection but not loading actual data is the fact you may have not selected a db from the dropdown when setting up the ODBC driver
After you setup your connection and port go to the last choice of Database: and select a db in the dropdown from the available list of db's in your environment.
Then when setting up the excel sheet for use of the ODBC data, via the data tab, choose your collection and documents from that collection should load.
I'm new to postgres so this problem is probably a relatively easy one for someone else. However, I have spent many frustrating hours trying to figure out the solution. I have an Access Database of metadata that must be kept updated for sending records to other groups. I also have a database using PostgreSQL and PGAdmin which also has these same metadata tables. Currently these tables in the Postgres database get updated manually by exporting the Access tables as excel files, and then importing them into the SQL tables. It's not the most efficient process and could lead to errors in the SQL database if someone forgets to check before running any queries that they are using the most recent data from Access. So I would like to integrate some of the tables from my Access database with my Postgres database.
Originally I tried just installing drivers to export the Access tables directly to Postgres which worked, but not in the way that I wanted since it just brings in a table which I would still need to manually update. From my understanding, I can create a server connection in postgres to access and that would then bring in updated data using a foreign data wrapper.
I tried to use ogr_fdw.
CREATE EXTENSION ogr_fdw;
When I try:
CREATE SERVER metadata
FOREIGN DATA WRAPPER ogr_fdw
OPTIONS (
datasource 'H:\Databases\20170712.accdb',
format 'ODBC' );
I receive: ERROR: unable to connect to data source "H:\Databases\20170712.accdb"
SQL state: HV00D
When I try:
CREATE SERVER metadata
FOREIGN DATA WRAPPER ogr_fdw
OPTIONS (
datasource 'H:\Databases\20170712.accdb',
format 'ACCDB' );
I receive: ERROR: unable to find format "ADDCB"
HINT: See the formats list at http://www.gdal.org/ogr_formats.html.
I also tried MDB and received the same error. However, MDB is the code name given by the website but it says that it needs JDK/JRE to compile and I'm not really sure if that's another type of driver that I would need or what it is.
When I try:
CREATE SERVER metadata
FOREIGN DATA WRAPPER ogr_fdw
OPTIONS (
datasource 'H:\Databases\20170712.mdb',
format 'ODBC' );
I receive: ERROR: unable to connect to data source "H:\Databases\20170712.mdb"
SQL state: HV00D
Hint: Unable to initialize ODBC connection to DSN for DRIVER=Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb);DBQ=H:\Databases\20170712.mdb,
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified
However I thought after looking at the github help page for ogr_fdw didn't need ODBC and special drivers https://github.com/pramsey/pgsql-ogr-fdw/blob/master/FAQ.md.
A lot of this is probably due to my limited knowledge of the terminology when I'm reading through a lot of this stuff. Also my Access database is an .accdb file but since that wasn't working I tried around with mdb and ODBC as the "format" too. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!
In Tableau 10 trial, I am able to establish connection with SQL Server database. Few other database is appearing in the drop down list, but the required database is not shown in the database list in Tableau.
Please help in resolving the same.
I'm trying to convert some old Excel-reports to Crystal Reports. The excel sheets uses OLAP-cubes and connects to a database using a XMLA connection over a SimbaO2X driver.
I just can't figure out which connection settings to use in Crystal Reports to be able to connect to the database.
I've tried both XML and OLAP connections, but just can't get a database connection.
Any help with the connection setting would be appreciated!
Edit: The database is a bit of a black box; it's probably an Oracle database (it was an Oracle database before the end user frontend was rewritten in java. They could have changed the database as well.) I have however no success with neither the Oracle Server nor the Microsoft OLE DB for Oracle connection method.
I have also this morning found a SimbaO2X provider under the OLE DB folder. While not working it's the best so far -- it accepts the username and password and lets me select which database to connect to but then fails with ADO Error Code: 0x80040e73 (Format of the initialization string does not conform to the OLE DB specification.) At least I have something to go on.
I'm running Crystal Reports XI if someone needs to know.
Partial solution:
Upgrade Crystal Reports XI to Release 2, service pack 4.
Update from service pack 4 to service pack 6.
Upgrades and updates can be downloaded from the SAP Community Network
A connection can now be made with the SimbaO2X OLE DB driver. This solution should also resolve connection problems with some other databases as well.
However, adding a table to the report results in a 0x800a0cc1 error (Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal)
