How can I create a Hierarchical block with GNURadio Companion? - hierarchical

I am trying to create a Hierarchical block using the GNURadio Companion GUI. Answers I've found in other posts say to select the blocks you want to incorporate, then go to More -> Create Hier. Then a new screen is supposed to appear. However, doing "Create Hier" with any combinations of blocks selected seems to do nothing.
Am I doing something wrong, or is there a problem with my GRC?

It's very simple. You just start with a new flow graph in GRC, and use Pad Sources as input, and Pad Sinks as output.
If you want to let the user configure something, use a Parameter GRC block.
You must set the Generate Options in the Options block to Hier Block, and set a sensible ID there, too – don't stick with top_block, but use something (without spaces or -; it needs to work as a python name) that won't conflict with something else.
Here's an example:
You can then Generate button (or press [F5]), and then, after you've done a rescan of your block library with the refresh button you can find (and use) your new block in the Block Category you specified.

Update parameters promoted to a mask inSimulink

So I am working on constructing a mask for a CAN unpack system. It's a basic mask with 2 promoted parameters and a browse button. The promoted parameters are the "CANdb" file field and the drop down menu, "MsgList", that follows it.
The basic mask it self works. I'm able to browse for a CAN ".dbc" file and its path is available in the promoted field, and even the drop down menu works where I'm able to select a message from those available in the ".dbc" file. But this is about all the functionality I'm getting.
My observation was that this problem is in 2 different parts. I'll try to explain them individually.
The first is with the "CANdb" promoted parameter. While on the outside it appears as though the parameter is changing (it changes in the mask), internally nothing changes: when i peak under the mask, there is no change on the values of the CANUnpack Block that i am using. Then CANUnpack block itself does update when I double click to open it. The new DBC and message list shows up but only on the block.
The second issue was with The list of messages, that is also promoted to the mask is also not updating. The list from the previous DBC file remains there, and does not change even if i run the simulation, update the model or refresh the block. When i close and reopen the model, it updates then.
These observations lead me to believe that i need to add some kind of code to update the mask, but i don not know what this code will be. I though that the issue may have to do with the fact that the value needs to propagate from the mask to the block and then updated all the parameters so maybe that prevents or hinders an update.
For this i then removed the promoted parameter for the DCB file and linked the browse button directly to the block parameter. The only difference this made is that the name of the new DBC file shows up on the CAN unpack block. Nothing else changes. Not even the messages of the "MsgList" till I double click to open the block. And as usual, the message list on the mask remains unchanged.
I am adding some images and the code for my browse button below to aid with trouble shooting. Thanks in advance.
pp = Simulink.Mask.get('NXP_CAN_Unpack/Subsystem/CANUnpack2');
p = pp.getParameter("CANdbFile");
[fName,pName] = uigetfile("*.dbc");
p.Value = [pName,fName] ;

Working with layout object attributes and variables in FileMaker

This is the first time I'm encountering GetLayoutObjectAttribute and I am having serious issues with it. My variable $web won't set. I think it's because PD_WebV isn't the right object name to refer to, but I don't know how to find the right object name. I can't find the objects name when I hit Edit Layout, so does anyone know how to find an layout objects name?
Loop
Pause/Resume Script [Duration (seconds): 1]
Set Variable[$Web; Value: GetLayoutObjectAttribute("PD_WebV";"content")]
If[$Web="done"]
#execute if statements
After Edit:
After some troubleshooting, I found out that PD_WebV is the right object name to refer and it's refered to correctly, so my new question is why doesn't the script go to the line If[$Web="done"] and how could I fix it? Ss my If statement not evaluating something it should be? Is my $web variable never set to done or is the issue something completely different? Would the problem possibly have to do with my WebDirect sharing settings? Any guidance would help. Thanks.
After, After Edit:
So now that my application is getting past Set Variable[$Web; Value: GetLayoutObjectAttribute("PD_WebV";"content")], the variable $web only equals <HTML></HTML>. Does anyone know a way, without using javascript, to test the inside of the html tags?
Also, I printed the bounds of the webViewer PD_WebV that I can't locate on the layout but am referring to in the script. The bounds that are printed are different each time I run the script. Is the usual or unusual? My source is also about:blank so it doesn't look like I'm sourcing from a URL
Is my $web variable never set to done or is the issue something
completely different?
If you're doing:
Set Variable[$Web; Value: GetLayoutObjectAttribute("PD_WebV";"content")]
then the only time
$Web="done"
will return true is when the web page loaded into your web viewer contains exactly the string "done" (in practical terms, that's never).
I have already suggested in a comment that you test for:
PatternCount ( $webpage ; "</html>" )
This is assuming you want the subsequent steps to execute only after the page has finished loading. The entire script would look something like this:
Loop
Pause/Resume Script [Duration (seconds): 1]
Set Variable[$Web; Value: GetLayoutObjectAttribute("PD_WebV";"content")]
Exit Loop If [ PatternCount ( $webpage ; "</html>" ) ]
End Loop
# execute statements
You might also want to add a counter to the loop and exit the script after n trials.
Ah, I reread your question.
To set the object name for your webviewer so that the GetLayoutObjectAttribute function works you need to set it in the Name field in the inspector when you have the webviewer selected.
e.g.:
After that your variable should populate.
Be aware
What it will populate with will be all of the html from the browser, i.e. not a boolean true/false liek your conditional suggests.
I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to accomplish, but to be able to determine a result from your web viewer you'll need to either parse the HTML to see if it's content contains what you're looking for or within the code you're setting the webviewer with, fire a javascript function that calls back to the FileMaker file using a FileMaker url.

IUIAutomationValuePattern SetValue has no effect

I am using MS UIAutomation in C++ to control a third party WPF application. I can read the value of an edit control (IUIAutomationElement objects). When I try to set the value with SetValue (IUIAutomationValuePattern objects) it does not return an error, but does not set the value of the edit control.
The manifest contains , the application is signed and is run from C:\Program Files.
I experienced that some UI Elements do not implement the UI Automation Provider correctly, as a result some patterns do simply not work as expected or even fail (although they are shown available).
To verify that the object is corrupt and not your code you could use the ValuePattern via Inspect.exe. Open Inspect -> select the control -> Action (Toolbar) -> ValuePattern.setValue
As a workaround I would suggest you to use SendKeys. If you need to focus the element first, yourAutomationElement.setFocus() is your friend. If setFocus does not work get the ClickablePoint/BoundingRectangle of the AutomationElement and use user32.dll in order to click the object.

Is it possible to use a control without putting it on a form in VB6?

I'm pretty sure about the answer to this, but I'm trying a variety of things to get a very stubborn project to work. One idea was to try to run code through a control without defining it on a form.
So, for example, my original code looked like this:
frmProcess.MyViewer.MaxPageSize = 100
frmProcess.MyViewer.ResetPages
frmProcess.MyViewer.AddPageToView "C:\TestPage1.txt"
I've changed it to:
Dim objViewer As MyViewer
objViewer.MaxPageSize = 100
objViewer.ResetPages
objViewer.AddPageToView "C:\TestPage1.txt"
I get an error window with "Run-time error '91': Object variable or With block variable not set".
But there doesn't seem to be a way to 'set' this control. Is this just impossible, or is there another way to do it that doesn't require a form?
EDIT: I ended up abandoning this entire path of activity, as an alternate solution was found that got around the problem I was having with this form freezing. I don't want to delete this question in case someone else comes along and can benefit from the answers, which are potentially useful.
Try this on a form.
Dim objViewer As MyViewer
Set objViewer = Controls.Add("MyViewer", "MyViewer1")
objViewer.MaxPageSize = 100
objViewer.ResetPages
objViewer.AddPageToView "C:\TestPage1.txt"
I've had similar situations in the past. If all else fails and you have to use a form you can do something crude like
1) Set the .Left property of the control to a negative number (like -10000) so the control doesn't appear on the form, the user can not see it
2) Make the entire form not visible..
ActiveX controls normally expect a number of services from their containers, for example persistence. They are also "packaged and marked" in ways that set the kinds of instantiation they support.
See Introduction to ActiveX Controls.
While it is perfectly possible for a control to be created in such a way as to make many of the available services optional, most controls are created from template code that requires a number of them. And most controls that are "visible at runtime" are going to require container services.
However that doesn't mean a control can't be designed to support containerless instantiation. A well known example of such a control is Microsoft Script Control 1.0 (MSScriptControl.ScriptControl) which can be used either way.

LibXML: Comment-out a block of Elements

IS there a way to add/initate a comment ( e.g. $dom->createComment ... ) such that it comments out an entire block of xml tags. Basically I want to turn-off the content between the comment.
For example, it would look like this:
<TT>
<AA>keep</AA>
<!-- comment to blocking
<BB>hideme1</BB>
<CC>hideme2</CC>
-->
<DD>d's content is good</DD>
</TT>
Actually this question is a pre-cursor to my attempt to figure-out a method to be able to markup/label/identify the changes to an xml files in support of new client software functionality, but be able to have the ability to remove / back-out these xml changes in the rare event the client needs to fall back to the previous software version (and no I can't just simply point back to the original xml file because the client is allowed to make minor modifications to existing node text values). This is all going to be controlled via a perl script and LibXML's core modules (I can't use modules the client doesn't have).
So basically I've identified three possible types of xml changes as a result of new client sw functionality:
1.) ADD new element node(s) (typically to support new sw functionality)
2.) DELETE element node(s), or blocks of (would be rare, but never-the-less a possibility)
3.) CHANGE node text values (rare, but the new sw may require a new value)
For all three types, the client needs the ability to back out the changes. One thing I was thinking to use is ATTRIBUTES since the existing xml files don't use them. For example, for an ADD change type, I could include an atribute like 'ADD="sw version 4.1"' . This way if it needs to be removed, I could just simply have the perl script find those attribute strings and delete them (using LibXML methods). Same thing with CHANGE change type - I could use an attribute like CHG="newvalue_oldvalue", then again use straight perl (or LibXML) to switch back the value based on the contents of the attribute. The DELETE change type is giving me a problem though (as welll as the others lol!). I want to be able to "keep" the deleted lines in the xml file soley for the purposes if the sw falls back a version (at some late point the perl script could eventually cleanup/delete them).
I know this is a lot, I'm new to LibXML (but not to perl). I was just wonder if any of you have any thoughts as to how to go about it or seen anything resembling this kind of request ... I'd be grateful for any kind of advice! Thank you...
