Trouble Starting MongoDB (Mac) - Code: 100 - mongodb

I installed MongoDB via Homebrew and seem to be having some trouble starting when I run the mongod command. I have tried setting a up the data/db directory correctly and viewed a few other answers on stackoverflow, but haven't been able to figure this out. Here is what I keep getting (sorry I am new to this):

This worked for me: sudo mongod --dbpath ~/data/db

So I tried to specify the path of my folder to /server/config/db but that still didn't work. Am I writing the path incorrectly?
This is what I have in my db file:

I am not able to start Mongodb server i tried using service as well and using --dbpath as well i don't know what is the issue. i tried to delete journal files as well but that didn't work
Try to delete the file /tmp/mongodb-27017.sock manually and restart the process.
Have you tried starting it with Sudo from the terminal like so
sudo mongod
this will require your system username and password

mongodb no such file or directory wiredtiger_kv_engine

what I did :
went to the database directory and
mongod --dbpath .
then I got this:

I don't know what's going on at all.
all that I have done is just common things like revising my files in other directories, merge the branch 'master' into 'b2' using github client.
I doubt that something went wrong when I did the 'merge' operation.
I have tried using git revert to make it roll back, still getting the same error.
Should I reinstall mongodb? I'm doing so.

How do I resolve this mongod error code?

I am about to start an API project and I have not used Mongodb in quite a while and do not use it everyday, so the context switching it killing me right now because I have used mongod successfully and now cannot remember how to get it up and running.
I tried by simply going to my command line and typing mongod but I get this error:
