Version drop down in VSTS build definition - azure-devops

I have noticed a drop down with a version number in my build definition, this appeared few week ago(perhaps after a VSTS upgrade) in all of the build definitions. I could not find any reference for this in MSDN, Please explain the purpose of this.

This means the version of this build task. Some steps have more than one version for you to choose, such as "Visual Studio Test", "Copy Files" steps, etc. Some steps still have one version, like the "Nuget Installer".
You could choose different version of the step by clicking the dropdown list. If a new version of the step added, you will see a red flag beside it.
Update:
In the manifest file(the task.json file), set the version and preview like the below:

The "Major" set to 2 and the "preview" set to true, you will see "2.*(prview)" in your task.

VSCode build task with dependsOn does "nothing" when gulp is installed. No output. How can I find the error?

I'm having problems with my VSCode installation, and I need some help to detect the cause of the error(s).
In one of my projects, I cannot (for some reason) execute any task that have "dependency tasks" defined. This is my .vscode/tasks.json file (created just to illustrate the problem):

The task subtask1 runs fine. The output is "This is a subtask".
However, the task all does not run. When I select it from the list of tasks to run, nothing happens. The terminal output remains unchanged (whatever output was already there, remains).
Whatever I name the tasks, doesn't matter. It seems that any task will not execute if it has a "dependsOrder" property defined.
This problem only persists when gulp is installed in the project dir (using npm i gulp).
My question is :
How can I find the cause of this error and how can I fix it?
I've tried deleting the entire dir in %APPDATA%/Code, so the cache seems to be cleared. Then, I restarted VSCode. But the problem persists.

Cannot update Azure Devops (VSTS) extension

In the Visual Studio Marketplace (https://marketplace.visualstudio.com) I found an extension (version 1) that I now use in my Azure Devops build pipeline. I contacted the author who made a small improvement and the new version of the extension was pushed yesterday. In the VS MarketPlace I also see that v2 has become available. However, when I go to my build pipeline I can still only select version 1.
I've contacted my organization's admin to ensure that the latest version is installed. We have even tried to remove the extension for the organization (at which point that was reflected in my build definition) and re-install it, but still I can only select version 1.
Any ideas why I cannot access the latest version of the extension?
In my case, the problem was not updating the task version in task.json file. Updating the extension's version (in the manifest file) is not enough. If the task version is not changed, Azure DevOps will not update the task itself (despite correctly updating the extension on the "Extensions" page).
Did the extension bundle multiple versions of tasks? Generally, we include one version of a task in your extension. Now it is also possible to include multiple versions in one extension, it is helpful if you want to roll out future versions of your extension without interrupting service of users running older versions. You can see the multiple version layout. You can only select version 1, that means the extension include only one version task, even you updated the version number in the task schema. In other word, the version you can select is not the version of the task itself, it means in this extension includes how many different version task.

How to target subdirectories in BuckleScript bsconfig.json

I have the following folder structure

main.re
In my bsconfig.json, using the quickstart guide found here. I have in my config the following key/value:

It is only targeting the main.re file. I have tried some conventional config options such as *.re, but to no avail. If I would like to target all sub-directories, how would I do so? Thank you.
There was actually a PR merged just yesterday that adds support for directory traversal. It'll be in the next release, which should be out shortly.

Show all warnings and errors in visual studio code

I'am using Visual Studio Code Version 1.6.0.
Is there any possibility to show errors and warnings of all files in the current root folder?
At the moment it shows only errors and warnings for open files.

ES-Lint has introduced a new task in VS Code. You have to enable it in the workspace setings.

Just go to terminal menu and select run task, then choose
eslint: lint whole folder
You can also auto-fix most problems by running the following command in the terminal:
.\node_modules\.bin\eslint.cmd --fix .

While we still await the problem scanner in VS Code, this is a good enough alternative if you use eslint.
OLD ANSWER
Here is how you can see all problems in less than 10 seconds.
You use a little trick.
Open replace all in files Ctrl + Shift + H.
Replace ; with ;
Hit replace all. That's it. Now, check Problems.
The assumption here is that all files have at least one semicolon. For
bigger projects, if you get a warning asking you to refine your
search, just enter something that is common in all files but is not
present a lot.
Very important: Make sure to check the Super cool! But i don't use eslint section! Wich provide a global solution! By setting up tasks! And explained in details!
Note: If you feel the document is blottered! Make sure to skim and get to the titles that catch you! Even though every section may matter! (TLDS (TOO LONG DO SKIM)).

For javascript, Vscode Eslint extension provide such a feature! Which if you are using Eslint (and not jshint) then you are having it already installed!

The extension is linting an individual file only on typing. If you want to lint the whole workspace set eslint.lintTask.enable to true and the extension will also contribute the eslint: lint whole folder task. There is no need anymore to define a custom task in tasks.json.

If eslint have no configuration setup! You'll get the following error!
If as such, Run eslint --init
And follow the interactive terminal!
Note if you don't have eslint command avaialble globally!

Then we need to go to the global way! And that's by creating a task!

A vscode tool and feature! That allow us to setup tasks based on tools and scripts and run them within vscode! Analyse there output within vscode! Integration with the debugging tool! ...etc! It depends on the task type!
A task get set through a setting file (task.json)! For a workspace or the whole user! (Some tasks types need to be set for only a workspace! They depends on the variables of a workspace)!

We want linting of a whole project! And errors detection!
We need to have the errors listed on the problems tab! And preferably too with fixes suggestions!

Should i migrate Tslint to eslint
Another reason would be: TSLint is a linter that can only be used for TypeScript, while ESLint supports both JavaScript and TypeScript.
Reason for the choice and deprecation is:
In the TypeScript 2019 Roadmap, the TypeScript core team explains that ESLint has a more performant architecture than TSLint and that they will only be focusing on ESLint when providing editor linting integration for TypeScript.

Problem matcher and auto fixing
Ok so how the problem matcher make the auto fixing suggestions? The answer is it doesn't! It can be clear! Or you may said at the first time you get to see the problem matcher, hey it may have a relation!
It isn't! The languages support or linters extensions are what provide such a feature! And that through using vscode Action api!

So simply: The problemMatcher set how the output of a task run is parsed and outputed on the problems tab!
And the languages support extension implement the auto fixes! Or linters! (Extensions) [I can make a play ground extension if i want]!
To note too that the yellow bulbe in the problems tab! Works and allow auto fixing! Because the problem matcher provide the line for the problem! That get mapped with the output of the extension fixing suggestions range! That get precised on the CodeActionProvider!
Is not possible right now, the VSCode team have a request for that feature that they are working in, so we must wait.
An alternative is to use a task runner to lint all errors in the project like the one created in this guide.
Visual code has an Extention for ESLINT to integrate the lint errors into the IDE. Whenever you save file, it will show its lint errors. See it: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=dbaeumer.vscode-eslint
For any like me who have encountered this question dozens of times with variations on the google search "c# vs code show all errors in all files", my issue was that I had too many files associated with my project – the C# extension by default starts error checking only open files when you exceed 1000 files total.
Go to Settings => Workspace => Max Project File Count For Diagnostic Analysis, and increase the value to wherever you think is reasonable.
Equivalently, add the following line to your existing settings.json, which increases the file count cutoff to 10,000.

This is my project.json file.
The tutorial now says I should add "Microsoft.Data.Entity" However I am missing this reference so I'm not able to add this library. I need this library so I can create my DBContext class.
Had the same problem, the project did not load all the libraries in the beginning. Added the hot fix and all is well now.
Problem :
Opening Package Manager Console produces the message:
"Windows PowerShell updated your execution policy successfully, but the setting is overridden by a policy defined at a more specific scope. But no PowerShell prompt ever appears. Similarly, attempting to install a package produces the same message on attempting to execute the script file from the package, followed by:
Install failed. Rolling back...
Attempting to upgrade an existing package instead produces:
Failed to initialize the PowerShell host. If your PowerShell execution policy setting is set to AllSigned, open the Package Manager Console to initialize the host first.
