It is possible to change postgres data folder during its installation on Windows? For example run the postgres instalator with some parameter.
At this time Iam using this procedure: https://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki/Change_the_default_PGDATA_directory_on_Windows
Or is there another script which do that?

I am new in Docker, I want to get a backup for my postgress database running in docker. All solutions i saw are offering to generate a dump sql script and restore db with running this script. But i dont want to do this? Is it possible backup and restore by migrating binary files of the db?
You can build Postgres image from plain empty Postgres db image. In Dockerfile you add SQL script which runs on db initialization (docker-entrypoint-initdb.d). The SQL script contains dblink to your backed up db and commands create table my_table as select * from my_table#remotedb. After docker build you have image with backup of your original database tables.
I do something similar with Oracle with more complexity (copying only subset of original database, preserving indexes etc.). Oracle docker image differs from PG in some properties but I believe the rough idea is applicable. It is some time ago I worked with PG so I won't advise you how to migrate binary files (though I believe it would be possible too).

Export and import table dump (.sql) using pgAdmin

Let I first state that I am not a DBA-guy but I do have a question regarding restoring remote databases using PG Admin.
I have this PG Admin tool (v4.27) running in a Docker container and I use this portal to maintain two separate Postgress databases, both running in a Docker container as well. I installed PG Agent in both database containers and run scheduled daily backup's, defined via PG Admin and stored in the container of each corresponding databases. So far so good.
Now I want to restore one of these databases by using the latest daily backup file (*.sql), but the Restore Dialog of PG Admin only looks for files stored locally (the PG Admin container)?
Whatever I tried or searched for on the internet, to me it seems not possible to show a list of remote backup files in PG Admin or run manually a remote SQL file. Is this even possible in PG Admin? Running psql in the query editor is not possible (duh ...) and due to not finding the remote SQL-restore file I have no clue how to run this code within PG Admin on the remote corresponding database container.
The one and only solution so far I can think of, is scheduling a restore which has no calendar and should be triggered manually when needed, but it's not the prettiest solution.
Do I miss something or did I overlook the right documentation or have I created a silly, unmaintainable solution?
Thanks in advance for thinking along and kind regards,
Aad Dijksman
You cannot restore a plain format dump (an SQL script) with pgAdmin. You will have to use psql, the command line client.
COPY statements and data are mixed in such a dump, and that would make pgAdmin choke.
The solution by #Laurenz Albe points out that it is best to use the command line psql here, and that would be my first go-to.
However, if for whatever reason you don't have access to the command line and are only able to connect to this database via pgadmin, there is another solution which you can find here:
Export and import table dump (.sql) using pgAdmin
I recommend looking at the solution by Tomas Greif.
I have installed postgres 9.5 in my linux(16.04) machine.I have started service using below command.
sudo service postgresql start
This will start postgres service as a postgres user.
But I want to run postgres a different user(myown user).
How can I do .Please help !!.
You have to recursively change the ownership of the database directory to the new user.
If the WAL directory or tablespaces are outside the data directory, you have to change their ownership too.
Then you will have to configure the startup script so that it starts PostgreSQL as the new user. Watch out: if you installed the startup script with an installation package, any changes to it will probably be lost after an update.
I recommend that you don't do all that and continue running PostgreSQL as postgres.
I'm attempting to run a sequence of SQL files using PEM. From the Oracle database I used:
#path_to_file1.sql
#path_to_file2.sql
#path_to_file3.sql
How do I do this using Postgres Enterprise Manager (PEM) ?
Please note that i'm NOT USING a command line and I don't want to run a SINGLE file, but I'm using PEM on a windows machine to run a SEQUENCE of sql files in one shot.

I have implemented a javascript script for my mongo database. This script is called getMetrics.js and I am able to execute it by running: mongo getMetrics.js from my computer.
Now I want to automatically execute that script one time per day. To do so, I have created a Heroku app and I added to it the scheduler add-on (https://devcenter.heroku.com/articles/scheduler).
My main problem is that in order to be run, my task will execute the command "mongo getMetrics.js" and it will failed because I don't have mongo command installed in my Heroku app.
How can I run this script from Heroku?
Thanks a lot for your help.
I did the below in a similar case:
Download mongodb for linux https://www.mongodb.com/download-center#community
The bin folder contains the mongo binary
Make this binary available in your Heroku instance (e.g. If you have your Heroku configured with your git repo, then checkin this binary along side your script
[Make sure the folder you are keeping this binary is in the path, safe path will be inside /bin]
