I made a test FB page and connected chatbot to it and everything works fine (for me).
It is a simple chatbot that just repeats what you said (work in progress).
Now I'd like to share it with my friends but I can't because app is not published.
Tried to publish it explicitly saying in my app submission that this is only for testing purposes but FB turned it down.
This is just for couple of my friends and this app will change over time as I add better features / bot becomes smarter.
So my question is: is there a way to add real test users like you have on TestFlight for iOS?
Testing should by done before publishing application so that's the most probable reason you gout turned down. To test bot you have to add your friends to bot application (not page) as testers, developers or admins.
To add testers visit Roles section on your bot application and click "Add Testers". On following popup enter their Facebook usernames (found on end of their profile URL). For example if your friend is Mark Zuckerberg with following profile link:
https://www.facebook.com/zuck
you would add him by typing "zuck" in popup. You could also add testers by entering Facebook ID instead of username.
People do not have to be your Facebook friends for you to add them as testers but they will have to accept request and connect to developers hub.
Go the Roles section of your facebook app. You can add testers there, you must be facebook friends I believe.

I created an fb application which uses the following permissions: manage_pages,publish_pages, and read_insights.
The main purpose of the application is to give to the authenticated user reports and statics about the popularity of his own fb page.
I noticed that I can't use those permissions until I submit the app for review.
In the facebook developer account, I noticed that for each of the above permissions I have to complete some notes:
1. How a person logs in with Facebook
2. How a person sees the permission used in your app.
Also they want me to upload a video to show them that I use the permission correctly.
The problem is that I'm not sure what should the video contain in order to clarify the point 1 and 2.
Right now my application is only doing the authentication phase (signup), and in the next release we are going to create and display analytics for each user who joined the platform.
I would be grateful, If you could give me some suggestions regarding what facebook would like to know in order to approve the permissions.
Thanks,
Your App needs to be working before you can send it in for review. Meaning, you need to have at least a working prototype. For development, you do not need to go through the review process, every permission works for everyone with a role in the App without review.
In other words, you can´t go through review with permissions you don´t even use right now.
Our team is building an app that has Facebook login requirement (in addition to other oauth/identity providers such as LinkedIn, Google, end so on).
The app is obviously in the sandbox mode, so in order to develop/play with it, it requires developer accounts for each team member, otherwise login flow just fails.
My problem is that, as an app "owner" I don't see a way how to register developers or testers that are not in my friend list. I tried to put an e-mail address of one of my colleagues that she is using for facebook account, but Facebook did not accept it with the message that user id could not be resolved. And I really do not want "to friend" with anyone. Making the app live is not an option either as it required review process, and we are pretty far from finishing this.
So is there any solution?
Update: Here is the error message shown to the user when she is not registered as a developer:
App Not Setup: The developers of this app have not set up this app
properly for Facebook Login.
Ok, figured it out. An app owner can use an alias that comes with the "facebook email" (whatever is in front of #facebook.com)
To access this special id, you need to go through the set of links:
Your profile page
Then click About
Then click "Contact and Basic info"
Then click on emails link to show your emails (emails hidden from Timeline)
Then find #facebook.com email and take the part before the # and use it
for registering
I am developing a new social media management tool which integrates Facebook. It works sort of like postplanner.
My app helps people manage pages better.
I need posting and page management permissions to test and develop my app, but whenever I try to give these permissions to my Facebook id (who is the administrator on this app), Facebook refuses to do so, and asks me to submit it for review.
I saw the review section and it seems that the app needs to be complete to submit for review.
How can I finish my app if I can't test page posting?
I tried creating test users in Facebook, but these test users can't create test pages, and that's why I can't use them.
I don't know what's going on here... Any clues help will be much appreciated.
Facebook gives a disclaimer above the permissions dialog, as the developer/owner of the app you don't need to heed it, you should already be able to grant yourself permissions to use it.
If this is the wrong place to ask this - I super apologize in advance, I'm at a loss here.
I'm trying to develop a simple Facebook PHP app and I'm having trouble getting publish_actions. Here's how the app will work:
You enter your email address
Periodically, you receive emails like this ("Hey nice person, here's a video we think you might be interested in, click here to share it on your wall")
You click the button, it takes you to the app site, which asks for your publish permissions
You enter a message and share the video to your wall.
My problem: all of that requires publish_actions permissions, but FB won't grant them to me until I can show a working app (I applied for permissions and was denied because "Canvas
Your app isn't loading properly and errors appeared while testing your app").
My question: How do I get access to publish_actions without being able to show a working app (which requires publish_actions)? Can I use PHP to post to my own wall in development mode somehow to test it out?
Again - I apologize for the dumbness of this question, I am a PHP dev who is very new to FB, and I've looked everywhere for answers on this.
Try using the Facebook Graph API Explorer
You will be able to simulate some of the app permissions as if it was production.
Just go and select your app, then select Get User Access Token, finally select all the permissions you want to test.
Use the given token to develop and test things out and when you have a semi finished version, submit it through the app review section, following the Facebook App Review Guidelines
I submitted screenshots, a video of my app working, and step by step description on how to reproduce the publish action.
Hope it helps.
I'm developing a test Facebook app to just get a feel for the platform.
Programatically I can send invites with the FB API.
I send my friend an invite and he can accept the invite which takes him to my app. If he leaves the app, he can't get back to it because it does not show up in his Apps list. His Apps link says App Requests. (Is Facebook A/B Testing this?) Of course, he could bookmark the app but he shouldn't have to. The other thing I noticed. Is in my Facebook dev apps dashboard my User count is still 0.
Main question: He can't see a link to the app anywhere? And also me as the developer can't see a link without going into the Developer app.
Is this because the app is not listed/published yet in the directory? This is very confusing. Help.
Facebook is redoing the invite system. They introduced the new Requests system early in the year, and recently released v2.0. Requests under the new system will remain until you delete them programmatically or the user clicks the "X". http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/dialogs/requests/
As for user count, unless you request authorization and they grant it, your user count will stay at 0.
