Is there a way to call SSDT DacServices without a connectionstring - powershell

I have a Source DacPac and a Target DacPac. With powershell I would like to compare both and generate a upgrade script. This per se is simple for all cases with DacServices as long as there is a valid Connection String. However, for my CD pipeline, I do not know the eventual connection string nor do I wish to know. And all I want is for the script to generate the SQL.
I tried this out with sqlpackage.exe by sending args as follows
$args = #(
"/a:Script",
"/sf:$PathToDacpacSource",
"/tf:$PathToDacpacTarget",
"/op:$outputFile",
"/tdn:$TargetDatabaseName"
)
and this works fine. so far I had managed by adding just a dependency to DacServices via [Microsoft.SqlServer.DacFx.x64], but this inability to generate scripts without a connection string has forced me to add the dependency on SQLPackage.exe via [Microsoft.Data.Tools.Msbuild] too
The constructors for DacServices all require a ConnectionString
Has anyone else encountered a similar situation and any solutions?
or Do you exclusively use SQLPackage at the deployment side to overcome this issue?

There is a static version of GenerateDeployScript that does not need a connection string as you don't call the constructor for a static method, it isn't very clear in the msdn documentation but the "S" which looks like it is floating means it is static :)
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.sqlserver.dac.dacservices.generatedeployscript(v=sql.120).aspx#M:Microsoft.SqlServer.Dac.DacServices.GenerateDeployScript%28Microsoft.SqlServer.Dac.DacPackage,Microsoft.SqlServer.Dac.DacPackage,System.String,Microsoft.SqlServer.Dac.DacDeployOptions%29
` public static string GenerateDeployScript( DacPackage sourcePackage, DacPackage targetPackage, string targetDatabaseName, DacDeployOptions options = null )

Access SourceBranchName in Release pipeline

I'm trying to release my buildartifacts to a specific folder based on the name of the sourcebranch which upon creating a pull request triggered the build and therefor the release.
I've managed to so far to get:
write-host $env:RELEASE_TRIGGERINGARTIFACT_ALIAS
$triggerAlias = $env:RELEASE_TRIGGERINGARTIFACT_ALIAS
This alias (from my point of view) is the primary artifcat alias which I need to access
Release.Artifacts.{Primary artifact alias}.SourceBranchName
based on this documentation. So how do I combine the alias to get the sourcebranchname
$env:RELEASE_ARTIFACTS_{$triggerAlias}_SOURCEBRANCHNAME
This doesn't seem to be working and neither does
$env:RELEASE_ARTIFACTS_$($triggerAlias)_SOURCEBRANCHNAME
Any advice is much appreciated.
You can read the variable in this way:
$triggerAlias = $env:RELEASE_TRIGGERINGARTIFACT_ALIAS
$branchNameVariable = "RELEASE_ARTIFACTS_$($triggerAlias)_SOURCEBRANCHNAME"
#Get the value of the environment variable Release.Artifacts.{alias}.SourceBranchName
$branchName = (Get-item env:$branchNameVariable).Value

Deploy Database Project with MSBuild with CommandLine Parameters fails

I am failing to deploy Database project using command line parameters with msbuild. I would like to:
use publish xml profile
define connection string as command line parameter
but this seems to be impossible for no reason. There is for sure some simple catch I am missing. I tried following variants:
msbuild /t:SqlDeploy /p:SqlPublishProfilePath="test.publish.xml" /p:TargetConnectionString="Data Source=..." Database.sqlproj
deploys database
values in test.pubhlish.xml are ignored
msbuild /t:Build /t:Deploy /p:SqlPublishProfilePath="test.publish.xml" /p:TargetConnectionString="Data Source=..." Database.sqlproj
deploys database
values in test.pubhlish.xml are ignored
msbuild /t:Build /t:Publish /p:SqlPublishProfilePath="test.publish.xml" /p:TargetConnectionString="Data Source=..." Database.sqlproj
fails with error: Deploy Error : The connection string is not valid
values in test.publish.xml file are used (when test.publish.xml contains TargetConnectionString, database is deployed correctly)
In all 3 cases I am using exactly the same ConnectionString, so it is not a typo or error in the connection string. I need to use the 3rd variant, but this just fails.. What am I missing?

Terraform - Pass in Variable to "Source" Parameter

I'm using Terraform in a modular fashion in order to build out my infrastructure. I do this by having a configuration file that calls in the different modules. I want to pass an infrastructure variable which picks up what tagged version of the Github repository the application should be building out. Most importantly I'm trying to figure out how to make a concatenation of a string happen in the "source" variable of the configuration file.
module "athenaelb" {
source = "${concat("git::https://github.com/ORG/REPONAME.git?ref=",var.infra_version)}"
aws_access_key = "${var.aws_access_key}"
aws_secret_key = "${var.aws_secret_key}"
aws_region = "${var.aws_region}"
availability_zones = "${var.availability_zones}"
subnet_id = "${var.subnet_id}"
security_group = "${var.athenaelb_security_group}"
branch_name = "${var.branch_name}"
env = "${var.env}"
sns_topic = "${var.sns_topic}"
s3_bucket = "${var.elb_s3_bucket}"
athena_elb_sns_topic = "${var.athena_elb_sns_topic}"
infra_version = "${var.infra_version}"
}
I want it to compile and for the source to look like this (for example): git::https://github.com/ORG/REPONAME.git?ref=v1
Anyone have any thoughts on how to make this work?
Thanks,
Keren
This is not possible currently in Terraform itself.
The only way to achieve something like this is to use a separate script to interact with the git repository that Terraform clones into a subdirectory of the .terraform/modules directory and switch it to a different tag depending on which version you need. This is non-ideal since Terraform organizes these into directories based on a hash of the module path, but if you can identify the module in question it is safe to run git checkout within these repositories as long as you do not run terraform get again afterwards.
For more details and discussion on this issue, see issue #1439 in Terraform's issue tracker, where this feature was requested.
You could use envsubst or python jinja and use these wrapper scripts in your pipeline deploy script to actually build the scripts from .envsubst and .jinja files before your terraform plan/apply
https://github.com/uvoo/process-templates/tree/main/scripts
I wish terraform would support this but my guess is they never will so just add some simple functions/files into deploy scripts which is usually the best way to deploy.

Create DataSource for DB2 Provider using wsadmin (Websphere Application Server 8.5)

I have a script which create a Data Source using a DB2 JDBC Provider in Websphere Application Server 8.5. So I am fighting with an error while running the script and I need some help pls.
My script:
def createDB2(list):
print 'Creating DB2 Data Source...'
for dataSource in list:
datasourceName=dataSource[0]
dsJNDIName=dataSource[1]
compAuthAlias=dataSource[2]
providerName=dataSource[3]
dataStoreHelperClassName=dataSource[4]
description=dataSource[5]
serverName=dataSource[6]
databaseMaxConnections=dataSource[7]
databaseMinConnections=dataSource[8]
databaseconnTimeout=dataSource[9]
databasereapTime=dataSource[10]
databaseunusedTimeout=dataSource[11]
databaseagedTimeout=dataSource[12]
#Creare sursa de date
dataSourceId = AdminJDBC.createDataSourceAtScope( scope, providerName, datasourceName, dsJNDIName, dataStoreHelperClassName, serverName, [['componentManagedAuthenticationAlias',compAuthAlias],['containerManagedPersistence','true'],['description',description]] )
connectionPoolList = AdminConfig.list('ConnectionPool', dataSourceId)
connectionPoolList = AdminUtilities.convertToList(connectionPoolList)
connectionPoolId = connectionPoolList[0]
AdminConfig.modify(connectionPoolId, [["maxConnections", databaseMaxConnections], ["minConnections", databaseMinConnections], ["connectionTimeout", databaseconnTimeout], ["reapTime", databasereapTime], ["unusedTimeout", databaseunusedTimeout], ["agedTimeout", databaseagedTimeout]])
print 'Saving configuration...'
AdminConfig.save()
print "Configuration saved."
My input list:
[datasourceName, JNDIName, AuthAlias, providerName, dataStoreHelperClassName, description, srvName, maxConnections, minConnections, connTimeout, reapTime, unusedTimeout, agedTimeout]
I am using the same script to create an Oracle Data Source with no errors. The difference that I know between theese process is the serverName. For DB2 is a ServerName and for Oracle is an URL. Is there another difference that I don't know? Does anyone see an error or a mistake in my code?
My error:
Exception: com.ibm.ws.scripting.ScriptingException com.ibm.ws.scripting.ScriptingException: com.ibm.ws.scripting.ScriptingException: WASX8018E: Cannot find a match for option value [databaseName, java.lang.String, TestSRV] for step configureResourceProperties

If you need more information leave a comment pls. Thanks in advance!
EDIT 03.03.2015
I found some examples in a RedBook from IBM.
Examples scripts for the DB2 database type:
The following example script includes optional attributes in a string format:
AdminJDBC.createDataSourceAtScope("Cell=IBM-F4A849C57A0Cell01,Node=IBM-F4A849C57A0Node01,Server=server1", "MyTestJDBCProviderName", "newds2", "newds2/jndi", "com.ibm.websphere.rsadapter.DB2UniversalDataStoreHelper", "db1", " category=myCategory, componentManagedAuthenticationAlias=CellManager01/AuthDataAliase, containerManagedPersistence=true, description=’My description’, xaRecoveryAuthAlias=CellManager01/xaAliase", "serverName=localhost, driverType=4,portNumber=50000")
The following example script includes optional attributes in a list format:
AdminJDBC.createDataSourceAtScope("Cell=IBM-F4A849C57A0Cell01,Node=IBM-F4A849C57A0Node01,Server=server1", "MyTestJDBCProviderName", "newds2", "newds2/jndi", "com.ibm.websphere.rsadapter.DB2UniversalDataStoreHelper", "db1", [[’category’, ’myCategory’], [’componentManagedAuthenticationAlias’, ’CellManager01/AuthDataAliase’], [’containerManagedPersistence’, ’true’], [’description’, ’My description’], [’xaRecoveryAuthAlias’, ’CellManager01/xaAliase’]] , [[’serverName’, ’localhost’], [’driverType’, 4], [’portNumber’, 50000]])
EDIT 16.04.2015
I am using the built in function createDataSourceAtScope and I have another example:
def createDataSourceAtScope( scope, JDBCName, datasourceName, jndiName, dataStoreHelperClassName, dbName, otherAttrsList=[], resourceAttrsList=[], failonerror=AdminUtilities._BLANK_ ):
I have to call the function like above. Did anyone see the problem? :)
The built-in scripts are in:dmgrProfile/scriptLibraries/resources/JDBC/V70
I still don't know how to fix my problem. If anyone has an ideea please leave a comment or an answer. Thank you very much!
I know it's too late, but I struggled with the same problem for Websphere on Docker. Then, I would like to share my solution.
Command to debug the scripts on ibmcom/websphere-traditional:8.5.5.18
/opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/bin/wsadmin.sh -conntype None -f exportConfig.py
Jython script
import os
import sys
newjdbc = AdminConfig.getid('/JDBCProvider:"DB2 Universal JDBC Driver Provider"/')
ds = AdminTask.createDatasource(newjdbc, '[-name NameDataSource -jndiName jdbc/NameDataSource -description "DB2 Universal Driver Datasource" -dataStoreHelperClassName com.ibm.websphere.rsadapter.DB2UniversalDataStoreHelper -containerManagedPersistence true -componentManagedAuthenticationAlias db2inst1 -configureResourceProperties [[databaseName java.lang.String SAMPLE][portNumber java.lang.Integer 50000][serverName java.lang.String 172.17.0.3]]]')
AdminConfig.create('MappingModule', ds, '[[authDataAlias db2inst1] [mappingConfigAlias "DefaultPrincipalMapping"]]')
AdminConfig.save()

Use AppCmd to LIST CONFIG in APPHOST only

I have a requirement to use powershell to configure IIS7.5 on WebApplications that have not yet had code deployed (possibly at all, possibly old/broken web.configs exist) to the file system. I would like to be able to do this all at the APPHOST level. (Note at the bottom about use of Powershell > AppCmd).
I can SET all the values properly, however, being somewhat diligent, I like to also validate the values were set properly by retrieving them after setting.
Here's the scenario:
I can set this value using AppCmd so the setting is applied at the APPHOST level using the /Commit:APPHOST flag. However, I havent found a way to READ the values exclusively at the APPHOST level.
Setting the Code is successful:
C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe set config "webSiteName/webAppName" -section:system.webServer/security/authentication/anonymousAuthentication /enabled:"True" /commit:apphost
However, I cant find a way to read the values using AppCmd (or Powershell):
Running the following AppCmd returns an error due to the broken pre-existing web.config in the folder (the specific error is unimportant, as it is reading the WebApp's web.config instead of the ApplicationHost.config/APPHOST):
C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe list config "MACHINE/WEBROOT/APPHOST/webSiteName/webAppName" -section:system.webServer/security/authentication/anonymousAuthentication
ERROR ( message:Configuration error
Filename: \\?\c:\inetpub\wwwroot\webSiteName\webAppName\web.config
Line Number: 254
Description: The configuration section 'system.runtime.caching' cannot be read because it is missing a section declaration
. )
Note: I would prefer to do this all in Powershell instead of using AppCmd, so if anyone has the syntax for modifying the APPHOST settings for anonymousAuthentication section of a WebApplication, that lives under a Website, from inside Powershell (Get-WebConfiguration seems to only use the WebApp web.config), that would be totally awesome and much appreciated!
Here's how to do this in PowerShell:
[Reflection.Assembly]::Load(
"Microsoft.Web.Administration, Version=7.0.0.0,
Culture=Neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35") > $null
$serverManager = New-Object Microsoft.Web.Administration.ServerManager
$config = $serverManager.GetApplicationHostConfiguration()
$anonymousAuthenticationSection = $config.GetSection("system.webServer/security/authentication/anonymousAuthentication", "simpleasp.net")
Write-Host "Current value: " $anonymousAuthenticationSection["enabled"]
# Now set new value
$anonymousAuthenticationSection["enabled"] = $true
$serverManager.CommitChanges()
