I have a tableau server where there are several 'sites' configured.
There is a workbook X in 'siteA' which i want to copy to another site 'siteB'.
Now there are several custom views (mostly with different filter values) created over sheets/dashboards from workbook X. All these custom views were created by me , I have full admin role on both 'siteA' and 'siteB' (actually on the whole server). All the custom views are marked 'public'.
Normally, I would just download the workbook X from 'siteA' and republish it to 'siteB'. However I want to be able to see/use all the custom views in 'siteB' without having to manually create them all over again.
Is there a way to to this?
I couldn't find any such 'official' solution anywhere. I am fine with trying hacky, one off solutions.
You are correct that there is not a way to do this workbook by workbook. The closest I know of at present (up through 10.5) is to export the entire site and then import the entire site, which will preserve the custom views. And that's not very close to what you're looking for.
If you search Tableau's Ideas forum for "custom views" you'll find several feature requests. This one in particular seems relevant - I'd vote for it! This one also seems related.
You can't really do that but you can export the view as they are stored in postgres workgroup database in repository_data in XML format. That way at least you can see what was contained in the view (filters, parameters, etc.)
Example of export (first you have to trace the ID of the custom view):
SELECT lo_export(repository_data.content, '/home/ubuntu/view.twb')
FROM repository_data
WHERE repository_data.id = (select id from repository_data
where tracking_id = (select data_id from customized_views where id = 100));

I'm trying to create a form to fill three tables to describe some projects with the 'Title of the project' as common field. When I create the form I have to write the title three times, otherwise it's not posible to fill the tables. Is there any way to put just one of the three fields on the form but the three of them are filled?
The database is empty, I want to make a form to start introducing all the projects that are going to be done in my group of work. In one table there are data related to the project, like start dat , full budget etc. In another one the information about my company, like the group its doing it, its role etc. In the last one just some general information like related tags. The name of the project appears in all of them, but when I do the form from a query they seem not to be related even if I do it on the query.
I've already tried to do it with the Wizard tool, selecting the different tables and its fields. I also tried to check the form properties...but I can't come up with what I'm doing wrong...
I'm new using access...
I am currently using the Kentico Import Toolkit to create documents in the tree.
At this point, I have imported around 100 documents using the toolkit, and they are all located at the correct place in the tree. Now the issue/concern that I had was, as I have imported these documents, my spreadsheet has been updated, so extra fields and data were added, so how do I go about importing this extra data into the currently existing documents? Also just bear in mind I don't want other fields or data to be affected by this, as some of the documents were updated with some other content by the content editors using CMS Desk, which isn't available in the spreadsheet.
Import toolkit is not the right tool to achieve this task. Even if you select "Import new and overwrite existing pages" it'll overwrite most of your columns. Actually it only preserves system and id columns from the existing documents - all other columns get overwritten.
Either you can write a piece of custom code or you can try following:
Open SSMS and navigate to the coupled table of your page type (something like CONTENT_MyDocType). This is where your custom columns are stored.
Right click -> Edit top 200 rows
Click "Show SQL Pane"
Adjust the columns, ORDER BY and WHERE clause to match your excel file, re-run the query
Select desired rows in your excel file and copy them to clipboard
Paste the data in the SSMS
rocky is right, Import Toolkit is meant for importing complete objects, not partial/continuous update.
You could map the fields that you know are not changed in the spreadsheet to a SQL query selecting the value from the target database.
To achieve this, just insert #<target> at the beginning of the SQL select statement you will be mapping the field to.
It will be rather laborious though and it also requires certain knowledge about the nature of the spreadsheet changes.
For this web project, a table listing is implemented in many different places (~60 tables, as in jqgrid tables showing information from db). The table functions are mostly the same (sort, filter, pagination, some custom actions) but there are specific requirements for these (columns to be sorted/filtered, table actions, ...).
I am trying to come up with a right way to model every table with it's specific details. For this I created some default Tagged Values, which I fill in by hand (e.g. table headers = id, special name, direction). I created a default use case "View table" which I copy as a new instance in the use case diagrams for each of the packages that define the tables.
My questions are:
The way I did it doesn't seem to let me to link the default activity diagram to the use case instance (RClick on use case -> New child diagram -> Select composite diagram => doesn't open the window "select a diagram"). How can I do this ?
If the way I did it seems wrong / not a good practice, how could I do it better ?
To create (and link) activities for a use case Add/Activity/with AD from the project explorer for the UC. That will create it inside the UC where it belongs. item

I have a Crystal template that I am modifying in developer because we are changing the datasource from an Access file to our Oracle DB. I created a database field that accurately connects to Oracle and added a select statement that because pulls a field from a particular table
select s.field from table s;
On the right hand side, under database fields, I see my command and can right click and browse the data, which right now returns two values.
I also made a formula field using an Azalea barcode function that calls the values (I think, this is where stuff is going wrong, I guess)
The formula field is
BarcodeC39ASCII({Command.field})
So this should take the data and format it into the barcode, except when I use print preview or print out the report, no data is merged.
I've tested this by creating a new formula field with just the Command.field, and still no data is merged. I imagine there is something really obvious that I am missing and would appreciate any input.
So unless I misunderstood your question, you are changing your datasource from Access DB to Oracle DB, correct? Assuming that the database structure remains the same then all you should need to do is go into Database -> Set Datasource Location and set the datasource location from the Access DB to the Oracle DB and your existing report should work as it did. You might have to map some fields, but that should be the extend of it. Is that what you are trying to do?

I have quite the request. A developer created our database that has multiple Layouts with a relationship tree that is very messy. Had another developer come in, take a look at it, he said that it would be too time consuming and painful to deconstruct our system, consider creating a script for now so that you can work around it until it can be fixed. Here's the dilemma: I've got information on one page that is supposed to reference information on a number of different pages utilizing tabs and portals. However, all the information is linked to a username. This username is not static/serialized or what have you. Therefore, if the issue is not caught right away a great deal of information can be linked to this person's 'page'. If the name is incorrect and someone tries to alter the username even slightly, it breaks that relationship and starts a new one. The information does not disappear, but it is basically sitting in limbo somewhere until you change the name back to the original. I've actually tried exporting the information, changing the information that doesn't match, i.e. changing a name from Jon.Smith to John.Smith, and then importing the information to a new 'page' for that person with unsuccessful results. Which brings me to my question, is a script going to be able to fix this problem? Likewise, are there any suggestions to how to create this script? I apologize, but I have very little experience with DataBase management at all, and am not sure why this project fell upon me. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Well, as a general answer, just about anything that a user can do in FileMaker (and by user, I mean non-developer, so activities such as defining the database structure, writing scripts, etc., are excluded) can be scripted. So if you're able to "solve" the problem by resetting a field's value, for example, then, yes, a script can do that.
Regarding your specific trouble, a script probably doesn't need to export the records, but could reset the values for the field within FileMaker. This could be done either by looping through the records that need to be changed or by using the Replace Field Contents script step. So a script could do something like this:
Go to Layout[MyLayout] // Go to a layout that is attached to the table you need to search.
Perform Find[Restore] // Restore a find that will show the records you need to change.
Replace Field Contents[Table::Field; "New Value"]
Offering more advice than this would require actually seeing the database and understanding more about your specific needs.
wchsTech4, you are in luck because your problem is easy to fix. You don't even need a script.
BACK UP YOUR FILE(S) FIRST. Then:
1) Create two new fields:
id (person table)
Options for id: Auto-enter serial number
person_id (the table related to person)
2) Generate serial numbers for the new id field in the person table.
Navigate to the person layout.
'Records' > 'Show all records'
Click in the id field and select 'Records' > 'Replace field contents.'
Choose 'Replace with serial numbers' and accept the defaults. Be sure to check the box to update your next serial number.
3) Place the serial numbers you just generated in the related table.
Navigate to the related layout.
'Records' > 'Show all records'
Click in the person_id field and select 'Records' > 'Replace field contents.'
Choose 'Specify' next to 'Replace with calculated results.'
In the drop down on the top left, select the related person table.
Double click the id field (your calculation should be person::id, with person replaced with the name of your table).
Click 'OK' and then 'Replace.'
4) Change the relationship.
Select 'File' > 'Manage' > 'Database.'
Navigate to the relationship tab.
Change the relationship from being based on name to id.
5) Test everything. Should work.
There is a chance that your related records are being created in such a manner that you also need to modify a script, website, or something else not mentioned here to have your fix work going forward. That is important to investigate.
