I wish to navigate to a directory and display in the cmd window all of the content of each .txt file within.
I have done this much:
Navigated to the folder
Open a single text file by passing the name type abc.txt
There may be 10 or even 20 .txt files in the directory.
Is there any way to do it?
Have you tried using the wildcard character *:
type *.txt

I have a folder say, source folder, containing 1000+ xml files with some ambiguous names, like:
_MIM_15646432635_6664684
_MIM_54154548557_6568436 etc.
Out of these thousands of XML files I’ve to select some 10-12 xml files with a particular node in them and move them to another folder (destination folder) and rename the files respectively with some meaningful names.
For example:
There is an xml file with name _MIM_15646432635_6664684 and it contains a node pattern like: “bab6e7h835468eg” and I’ve to rename it to name like: {1FE9909E-4450-B98665362022}
So for this I’ve to write a script which will search the file in source folder and if it finds my desired node pattern then move this file to destination folder post renaming it to some meaningful name.
Provided I’ve an excel sheet where I do have a list of two columns, one containing the specific node pattern and column two has a respective new name list.
Currenty, I’ve a script which can search a file and move it to another folder provided I’m giving input to the script with the node pattern and file name from that excel sheet:
Select-String – Path “\Dubwta01\AIR\Invalid*.xml” – Pattern ‘bab6e7h835468eg’ | %{Copy-Item – Path $_.Path – Destination ‘\Dubwta01\AIR\Invalid{1FE9909E-4450-B98665362022}.xml’
What now I need is that a new script which will pick all 10 files from source folder and move it to destination folder by renaming it and I don’t have to hard code the pattern and new name in script rather it shall fetch the details from that excel or I can save the details in text files whatever is suitable for script to pick the name and pattern from.
I use the command to extract only the folders containing a specific name, but now I want to know if it is possible to make 7zip extract only .txt files that have at least one word of my choice in them. Like for example
& 'C:\Program Files\7-zip7z.exe' x *.* -o(directory) *.txt (word I want to have inside the .txt e.g. password)
I used this command as an example of what I wanted it to look like, but in reality it only works for extracting just the filename
If you also have another way to do this with compressed files other than 7zip, I will be happy with any help
Is it possible to list all of the files in a directory of a certain file type, and then save them in the same directory but as a separate file type using MatLab?
In my case, I have 144 files saved as in a .fig format, but I would like to copy them as a .tif format so that I don't have to go and change each file manually.
I know I can list all the files in my directory using the dir function and I guess I could simply run for loop with i=1:length(dir) but I don't know how to isolate the files of a specific file type. I don't see filetype as a field name on the mathworks website for dir.
Thanks for any suggestions.
To list only files of type .fig:
files = dir('*.fig');
You can then loop over the names:
for k = 1:numel(files)
filename = files(k).name;
% do something with filename
end
Through the use of sanselan I've found that the root cause of iPhone photos imported to windows becoming uneditable is that there is content (white space?) after the actual XML (for more details and a linked example of the bad XMP XML see https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/45326/why-can-i-not-edit-some-photos-imported-from-an-iphone-to-windows-vista).
I'd like to scan through my photo archive and 'trim' the XMP XML.
Is there an easy way to do this?
I have some java code that can recursively navigate my photo archive and DETECT the issue. I'm not sure how to trim and write the XML back though.
Obtain the existing XML using any means.
The following works if using the Apache Sanselan library:
String xmpXml = Sanselan.getXmpXml(new File('/path/to/jpeg'));
Then trim it...
xmpXml = xmpXml.trim();
Then write it back to the file using the solution to serializing Xmp XML to an existing jpeg.
try the following steps:
collect all of the photos in a single folder (e.g. folder xmlToConvert on your Desktop)
open a Terminal.app window
cd to the directory you put the files in (e.g. cd ~/Desktop/xmlToConvert)
run the following command from your command line prompt
mkdir converted ; for f in *.xml ; do cat $f | head -n $(wc -l $f) > converted/$f ; done
the converted/ sub-directory should now contain all the files without the whitespace at the end.
(i.e. a folder called converted in the xmlToConvert you created on your Desktop)

I start with Matlab and would like to know how could I access to a folder and get contents to access files and read them.
I have a variable in workspace tmpfolder that is equal to 'path to folder' but I don't find how could I make dir(tmpfolder) and get files, browse any file content to get a string value...
I would start with dir() and fopen().
More generally, try starting at the beginning: Working with Files and Folders.
If you have an image file in jpeg format in another folder named myimage and a text file called mytext, use:
prefix_image='myimage';
prefix_data='mytext';
fileformat='.jpg';
dataformat='.txt';
folder='C:\Users\khaled\Documents\MATLAB\';
image = imread(strcat(folder,prefix_image,fileformat));
data=textread(strcat(folder,prefix_data,fileformat),'%f');
