App created in ionic doesnt launch the browser - ionic-framework

I just created a draft app using ionic and wanted to see it on the browser using
ionic serve
but ran into an issue:
it kept failing to open the browser and I had to open Firefox manually. so I was curious if there is a way around this? managing permissions and stuff.. or I have to live with it!
Thanks for your insights

ionic serve don't know which browser to run, so, add a default browser.
ionic serve -f firefox

Themeable browser use UIWebView forcefully with ionic capacitor

I am doing ionic application with capacitor.
I have to use https://ionicframework.com/docs/native/themeable-browser plugin for one funcationality but when I make build and upload to apple store app is rejected because of UiWebView issue.
Commands for installing themeable plugin
npm install cordova-plugin-themeablebrowser
npm install #ionic-native/themeable-browser
ionic cap sync
If I remove that plugin and upload it to apple build process pass successfully.
Apple no longer accepts new submissions using UIWebView:
https://forums.developer.apple.com/thread/122114
There is also an Ionic blog article: https://ionicframework.com/blog/understanding-itms-90809-uiwebview-api-deprecation/
You can use Capacitor's Browser API, but it is quite limited compared to some existing Cordova plugins. However it is built around WKWebView and is therefore compliant.
There is AFAIK no alternative but to move to WKWebView if you want your app to be on the Apple App Store.
I assume you are using Themeable Browser instead of InAppBrowser because you need to customize the toolbar and other components. Unfortunately Themeable Browser is no longer a supported project. In InAppBrowser version 5.0.0 https://cordova.apache.org/announcements/2021/02/16/inappbrowser-release-5.0.0.html only uses WKWebView and you can now set InAppBrowserStatusBarStyle to "darkcontent". Unfortunately, other changes have to be applied manually. I succeeded for Android and I fight for Ios :-)

Ionic serve loading wrong app

I have created my first Ionic app using CLI, so I did:
ionic start my-project --v2 blank
I run ionic serve command inside the project's folder, and I can see the brand new project in the browser. I did some changes in the project and run ionic serve again, perfectly fine.
I created another project with CLI:
ionic start second-project --v2 blank
Then, I run ionic serve from inside the second project's folder and the first one is actually loaded, not the second one.
What did I miss?
I didn't try to clear the browser history but I remembered that I did play around with Service Workers in my first app, it was a PWA.
So I ran ionic serve then opened Chrome's Developer Tools and found out that it was still there, so I Unregistered the service worker and deleted it under the Cache Storage section.
Stopped and ran ionic serve again and it loads the right app now.
This is how I solved this issue.
Chrome was still using the cache from that previous app. I ran ionic serve it loaded my wrong app, then I opened the Developer Tools, and under Applications tab, Service Workers option, it was there.
I clicked the 'Unregister' option, then under 'Cache Storage' section I deleted the registered previous application's cache with the right click option. This solved my problem.

My Ionic app works fine on browser but does not open in my phone

my ionic project works fine with ionic serve --lab ,but while copied the.apk file in build folder to my phone and install the app but blank screen appears ,
Please can anyone suggest what might be my problem
my app is using google maps,key is provieded for both app and browser in index.html
Have you tried running it in the emulator ? Since its much easier to see the error logs . Try ionic emulate android -l or ios -l (whichever OS you are building for) and then once the execution starts run the command consolelogs it will log all the activity and you will have a better understanding about why its not working.
+1 for using Chrome Remote Debugging feature. It give you the same output as you would receive from running you app in the browser.
Additionally, I have found that sometimes if your app is already compiled, the ionic CLI doesnt always copy your current files into the APK, and uses the older cached files instead. If you are banging your head against the wall, run the following commands to make sure you have your latest code in your APK.
ionic platform remove android
ionic platform add android
ionic run android
I suggest you use the Chrome Remote Debugging feature. I encountered the same, and looked for answers to my symptom for hours. Once I connected to the chrome remote debugger, I got the console.log back, and noticed there was a problem in my routing setup.
It was a problem with ionic CLI. I've updated it to the latest and reinstalled all dependencies.

Ionic workflow questions and facebook authentication issue

I'm trying to implement mobile application using Ionic. I'm following this, but unfortunately logging in doesn't work on real device. It works fine in the browser and the emulator. I did every step from the tutorial, I did the tutorial 2-3 times and still get the same error.
I am logged in successfully on my device but then I see the following screen:
I already have both urls as redirect urls in my application settings in FB.
http://localhost:5000/oauthcallback.html
https://www.facebook.com/connect/login_success.html
I tried to debug OpenFB with alerts. I can see "cordova events" alert but then I have alerts on the first lines of loginWindow_loadStartHandler and loginWindow_exitHandler but they are not executed. I guess that the problem is there but I have no idea how to fix it.
if (runningInCordova) {
alert("cordova events");
loginWindow.addEventListener('loadstart', loginWindow_loadStartHandler);
loginWindow.addEventListener('exit', loginWindow_exitHandler);
}
Also I have some questions about Ionic and Phonegap.
I use Ubuntu and I am trying to build iOS and Android applications.
My application's structure is:
app/
hooks/
platforms/
plugins/
scss/
www/
Also I have InAppBrowser plugin:
cordova plugin add org.apache.cordova.inappbrowser
but this plugin is not part of app/www folder.
I am trying to build a phonegap application in their site. I made a .rar file of the app/www folder content and upload it. Everything seems to be fine. But in Phonegap site when I click PLUGINS, I see This application has no plugins. How should I add inappbrowser to the application, maybe that is the reason why my FB authentication doesn't work. If I build the whole app folder, again I see the same message - This application has no plugins.
So when create an archive file of the content for Phonegap, which folder I should archive - the whole app folder with all subfolders or only app/www? What is the correct flow? Also how crossplatform app should now about added plugins?
I ran into this issue today, if someone is still looking for the solution for this:
loginWindow.addEventListener('loadstart',
loginWindow_loadStartHandler);
is implemented in the js file, but the loadstart event never fires on my Android (but works on WindowsPhone cordova javascript app), instead i added:
loginWindow.addEventListener('loadstop',
loginWindow_loadStartHandler);
,which works on both Android and WP (with InAppBrowser 1.2.0), IOS test is still ahead.

Can't download a GWT Plug In For IE

I am not able to install the GWT Developer plugin for Internet Explorer.
After getting the yellow patch saying:
Development Mode requires the Google Web Toolkit Developer Plugin
I click on Download plugin. Instead of redirecting to a download site it shows:
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
What might be the probable cause?
Actually the page is not redirecting to :
"https://dl-ssl.google.com/tag/s/appguid%3D%7B9a5e649a-ec63-4c7d-99bf-75adb345e7e5%7D%26lang%3Den%26appname%3DGWT%2520Developer%2520Plugin%2520for%2520IE%2520%2528x86%2529%26needsadmin%3Dfalse/gwt/plugins/ie/GwtDevPluginSetup.exe"
Is there any alternate way to install that plugin?
Please help!!
I faced the same problem and i think that there is no development mode for IE8. it didn't work when i tried to run it in IE. So i advice you to use Chrome it is the best browser supports GWT dev mode. Why do you need IE anyway ?
read this article about IE http://googlewebtoolkit.blogspot.com/2010/12/support-for-gwt-dev-mode-in-ie-9.html
Even I had the same issue in installing the plugin for IE, what i did was just copy and pasted the missing plugin url in address bar and hit the enter button. And installed it, so finally it worked. The issue was, the browser was unable to redirect to the plugins update site, after clicking on download link.
Hope this might fix your problem.
