I'm trying to post an image to my feed (via the FB Graph API), do something with it, and then delete said image. Now I am able to successfully post the image but when I try to delete it, I get an error saying
(#10) Application does not have permission for this action
According to the docs, I need the publish_actions permission to delete posts - a post that was made by the app (for the purpose of testing, I'm using a short access token created via the Graph API Explorer), no less. I already have the permission requested and removed and re-requested it but to no avail.
Following is the relevant code:
// Post the image to the private feed
res, err := fb.Post("/me/photos", fb.Params{
"source": fb.File("najm.jpg"),
"access_token": os.Getenv("FB_ACCESSTOKEN"),
})
if err != nil {
log.Fatalln("Error posting image:", err)
}
log.Println("The uploaded image's post_id is:", res["post_id"])
log.Println("Now deleting the aformentioned image from the feed.")
// Delete the image
res2, err2 := fb.Delete(res["post_id"].(string), fb.Params{
"access_token": os.Getenv("FB_ACCESSTOKEN"),
})
log.Fatalln("Error deleting image:", err2)
log.Println("Returned response after deletion:", res2)
I figured out my mistake. To delete the image, I needed to pass the picture id pid instead of the post id post_id.

I am running queries against Facebook Graph API to fetch OG meta information about URLs. Using a Facebook APP token, I can request most URLs and get their corresponding meta data back. But I have run into two issues that I can't find a solution for. I have one domain that refuses to pull any meta information using an APP token. Instead I get back an error 100 (Unsupported post request). But when I make the same request using a User Access Token, it works correctly. The second issue I found is that when a URL has any kind of OG error, Facebook is still scraping it, but will return a 100 error instead of returning the meta details (with both the app token and the user access token). I've even tried running the query without the scrape parameter, to no avail.
Normal Request That Returns Meta Fields of URL:
POST:
https://graph.facebook.com/v2.9/
{
"id": "http://viralcrunch.com/articles/22325/these-guys-invented-the-anti-smart-phone-and-it-will-blow-your-mind",
"scrape": "true"
}
Request That Returns 100 Unsupported post request Error W/ App Token
POST:
https://graph.facebook.com/v2.9/
{
"id": "http://turnthispage.com/dads-totally-winning-fatherhood/",
"scrape": "true"
}
Request That Returns 100 Invalid Object Error W/ Any Token
POST:
https://graph.facebook.com/v2.9/
{
"id": "http://www.thesportster.com/basketball/top-20-nba-players-who-live-life-to-the-fullest/",
"scrape": "true"
}
The second URL seems to be associated with an app id of an app that has some kind of access restrictions set; so I guess it is the same here as if you tried to access information about a Facebook Page that has access restrictions set - you can not query any details about those using the app access token, you need to use a user access token for a user that is allowed to see the content, or a page access token for that page.
And that you get an error response for the third one seems only natural. After all, this is a tool intended to debug and scrape the Open Graph objects you are in control of, so if the OG meta data is not in order it should return an error.
I created and APP on the Facebook.
Now I am trying to post a comment on the user's timeline using the Graph API but I cannot undestand what I need to do.
I already authorized the Application (I authorized this permissions: 'user_status,publish_stream,user_photos,email').
If I look on my profile -> privacy I can see that the APP can:
This app can: Post on your behalf
This app may post on your behalf, including status updates, photos and more.
Last data access:
Basic InformationToday
See details ยท Learn more
Posts on your behalf:
Who can see posts this app makes for you on your Facebook timeline?
Public
Notifications:
When to notify you?
The app sends you a notification
So this part seems OK.
On my application I do the following to try to post somenthing on my timeline (I need to post it when I am off line).
1) GET : https://graph.facebook.com/oauth/access_token?client_id=APPID&client_secret=*APP_SECRET*&grant_type=client_credentials
RESPONSE:
access_token = 422828347771671|UdQELQIf0N7krF4JUo7VwtPLTkk
2) GET: https://graph.facebook.com/search?q=myemail&type=user
RESPONSE:
_"error":_{
______"message":_"A_user_access_token_is_required_to_request_this_resource_",
______"type":_"OAuthException",
______"code":_102
___}
But reading the documentation (https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/api/#searching) it seems that this request does not need any kind of access token.
I also tried to add the access token, but the result is still the same.
3) I know my facebookid so I tried to use it directly:
POST: https://graph.facebook.com/100001139132403/feed
ARGUMENT:
access_token=422828347771671|UdQELQIf0N7krF4JUo7VwtPLTkk,
message=Hello
RESPONSE:
"error": {
"message": "(#200) This API call requires a valid app_id.",
"type": "OAuthException",
"code": 200
}
}
So I tried to add client_id=APPID and app_id=APPID, I tried to put one, the other and also both arguments as GET or POST but nothing changed.
I checked the APPId ad it is correct.
Do someone have any idea?
Thank you!
You cant simply generate a user access_token by querying to a URL. What you did gives the App access token and as the error say, you are trying to do something, that needs user access_token.
Refer and implement this : https://developers.facebook.com/docs/howtos/login/server-side-login/
And use that access_token for the rest of the processes.
The API always return false, without any detailed information.
Then same even when using the photo IDs of my own photos.
However, the photo ID listed in the API document (the Coca Cola one) works without problems...
Your call to FB is correct i.e.
https://graph.facebook.com/PHOTO_ID + accesstoken
will return a JSON response with info about your image and urls to download the image in different sizes.
Most likely reason for your problem is you haven't requested the "user_photos" permission from the app user.
I've put together a script, with the help of another SA post, but the issue I'm having is it's always returning error. When logging the error with console log it contains no properties so I can't determine why I am getting the error.
$(".add-image").click(function() {
FB.login(function(response) {
if (response.authResponse) {
var imgURL="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3332/3451193407_b7f047f4b4_o.jpg";
FB.api('/album_id/photos', 'post', {
message:'Test',
url:imgURL
}, function(response){
if (!response || response.error) {
console.log(response);
} else {
alert('Post ID: ' + response.id);
}
});
} else {
console.log('User cancelled login or did not fully authorize.');
}
}, {scope: 'publish_stream'});
});
I've created the app. Added the API ID when including the Javascript.
When running I get a pop up asking me to log in, and it seems to log me in without problems. But it returns an error when checking for a response or response.error.
Any advice.
Not sure if this is still a problem for you, but I've been looking into the same thing recently and I believe that, for this type of upload, FB basically requires source to be the image data itself, not a URL to the image. (See the create photos section on https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/api/album/ - it indicates that the source paramater must be multipart/form-data.)
So you have a few workarounds:
1) You may be able to do it from JS if you can create a custom Open Graph Object. I haven't tried this yet, but https://developers.facebook.com/docs/opengraph/usergeneratedphotos/ looks like it expects a URL rather than the post data itself.
2) If the image is originating on the user's computer, you can create an HTML form that submits to FB and have the image go directly from the user to FB without ever hitting your server. This blog post shows an example of that: https://developers.facebook.com/blog/post/498/
3) If the image is originating in your system, you can do a POST from your server to FB that mimics the above form. If it's somewhere else online (such as Flickr), you can download it to your system first and then POST it to FB. You'll have to include an access_token in the request. I don't know what language / framework you're using on your server, but there's probably a library to make creating POST requests easier.
I'm trying to tag a user (having its userid), with a Graph request made to a picture just uploaded to a Page Gallery.
Permissions I use in the app are:
#"read_stream", #"offline_access", #"publish_stream", #"manage_pages",#"photo_upload",#"user_photos" and with a access_token to the session got from page_it?fields=access_token item (that works for picture upload in gallery).
And I use them to upload the photo to a Gallery on a Fan Page successfully.
When I try to tag the user with a graph request in the form:
POST to picture_id/tags with param: "to"->userid
I get only facebookErrDomain error 10000 as if permissions are not right.
From API Documentation seems that only user_photos and publish_stream are required and no mention to page-galleries photo is made.
I'm quite clueless about this issue.
It's possible. You need to collect the page's specific token by placing a call to /me/accounts. And then tag the photo using page's access token. Once you get that, you can tag the photo using it's Graph Object Id and user id whom you are tagging.
if (accessToken) {
var data = {
"access_token": accessToken,
to:userId,
x:x,
y:y
}
FB.api("/" + photoId+"/tags/"+userId , 'post', data, function(response) {
//here is the response
});
}
Hope it helps. The key is the access token that is specific to that page :)
