scp is giving no such file or directory - kubernetes

The Linux I have in this container is as shown below:

I am trying to do a simple scp with sshpass command as shown below and running into this error. any ideas really appreciated. Please note that I have tried scp and not cp. Infact this line is in a script, I tried it on the linux command line I got this error. I have also tried escaping the Environment variables with ' and " and \ and all combos, but that doesn't seem to have helped.

another thing I have noticed is if I do the env on this container, I see an extra line in the environment variable , could that be an issue. See how this env shows. Note that I have not entered a line on purpose, when I type env command I see line next to the H_HOSTNAME and the H_PARTITION which is weird

Looks like 2 shell expansion issues. Try:
sshpass -p "$H_PASSWORD" scp -v $H_USERNAME#${H_HOSTNAME}:server.pem .

# sshpass -p '$H_PASSWORD' scp -v $H_USERNAME#$H_HOSTNAME:server.pem .

Executing: cp '--' ':server.pem' '.'
Your shell variable H_HOSTNAME has some white space at the end. It's causing the scp command to be something like this:
scp -v someuser#somehost :server.pem .
Scp interprets this to mean that two local files named someuser#somehost and :server.pem should be copied to the local directory .. It's trying to do a local-to-local copy for each file by invoking the cp program.

Prevent VSCode opening as root from WSL

When opening VSCode in a folder using code . using my current user, I notice that then it was started as root. The steps that I'm making are to validate this behaviour are:
$ whoami
>> franciscoserrano
$ mkdir test-dir && ll
>> drwxr-xr-x 2 franciscoserrano franciscoserrano 4.0K Jan 18 19:04 test-dir
$ cd test-dir
$ code .
(right after this, inside VSCode's terminal) $ pwd && whoami
/home/franciscoserrano/projects/test-dir
root
Another weird thing is that the VSCode terminal seems to load the .zshrc of my user, this is still inside VSCode terminal:
$ pwd
>> /home/franciscoserrano/projects/test-dir
$ whoami && cd
>> root
$ pwd
>> /home/franciscoserrano
Is this intended? Why making $ cd changes to a directory that is not from the user that outputs $ whoami? How do I force VSCode to open as the same user as in WSL?
Another detail: when creating files inside the same folder, using the VSCode GUI, those are also created as root:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Jan 18 19:18 hello.c
Running the following command on the windows side fixes this issue for me:
ubuntu2204.exe config --default-user <wsl-user>

Centos 7 sudo -u <user> mkdir -p <path> stopped working

I have an odd issue where as of recently I am unable to run mkdir -p for a different user running as root and get the following error:
[root#ip-192-168-1-146 ~]# sudo -u myuser mkdir -p /some/target/path
sudo: mkdir -p: command not found
When I test as the 'myuser' user the mkdir -p command works fine. I have additionally tried the following without success:
su - myuser -c "mkdir -p /some/target/path"
sudo -u myuser -i mkdir -p /some/target/path
sudo -u myuser -i -c "mkdir -p /some/target/path" <---dont think syntax is right on this but tried anyways.
Context: I am executing a script to setup my AWS EC2 instance that populates all defined directories. This has been working fine until recently. Not including my script here as the above command doesn't work by itself.

so...no idea how it happened but somehow I pasted a special character M-BM- in place of a proper space char.
The M-BM- characters are an ASCII representation of byte sequence 0xc2 0xa0, which is the UTF8 encoding of unicode character A0 - a non-breaking space character. This character can be inserted in both LibreOffice and Microsoft Word documents using the key sequence Ctrl+Shift+SPACE.

cannot connect to "workspaceMount" at container launch from vscode

using vscode and wsl2, I have tried to launch a container using the default method and no customization. This generated the same error as below.
so following vscode docs I set a "workspaceMount" in devcontainer.json

I select Reopen in container, the launch sequence happens but an error is generated
a mount config is invalid, make sure it has the right format and a source folder that exists on the machine where the Docker daemon is running

Is this issue due to owner root:root ?
Should this be changed by chown in the Dokerfile? if so could you provide a sample code to do this, is it by RUN chown ...?

Perl Returning error for ls -l command

I am running a perl script from Nagios to check some files for certain characteristics on a windows machine. When I run the script from Nagios it responds with a result of:
UNKNOWN ERROR - execution of LANG=C ls -l resulted in an error 32512 -
My Code is from this GitHub with a single modification of line 168 so I can use it with windows:

The odd thing is the program actually outputs the expected result from the command line on the windows machine.
Here is the command:
check_files.pl -D c:\logs -F Health.log -a '~,300'
Here is an example:

Health.log files found
I modified line that defined LANG=C ls -l in the code but now i just get:
UNKNOWN ERROR - could not execute ls -l - No such file or directory
ls is unix command and by default there is no such command in windows.
If you need it, you can install it e.g. from GNU CoreUtils
You also need to change shell command on line 639 from LANG=C ls -l to just ls -l because in windows you can't set environment variables like that.

rpm build fails to make build root dir

I am working on making an rpm for a small program used within our enterprise. The %build section of the rpm process works. I'm having trouble with the install section. I've referenced this article response and I believe I am properly referring to the target location with respect to %{_buildroot}.
The program I'm making is to be installed as a system service. So, after the rpm actually is generated for this step, I've got to add the next step in my installation process which is to include the script that is installed to the init.d location and run that install. One step at a time though.
The build errors are as follows (omitting everything but %install):

Now, my rpmbuild directory does not have the directory /home/packager/rpmbuild/BUILDROOT/o2arbitord-1.0-1.el6.x86_64/usr/sbin. While I know that's part of the problem, the rpmbuild process isn't making the directory /home/packager/rpmbuild/BUILDROOT/o2arbitord-1.0-1.el6.x86_64 either. What I don't understand about that one is: why? Looking at the script output above you can clearly see the line: mkdir /home/packager/rpmbuild/BUILDROOT/o2arbitord-1.0-1.el6.x86_64. So, why isn't the directory made?
How does the line BuildRoot: %(mktemp -ud %{_tmppath}/%{name}-%{version}-%{release}-XXXXXX) from whatever the definition of %{_buildroot} is? I thought that was the definition, but it appears to be something different.

You are attempting to install a file into a directory that doesn't exist (yet).
RPM only creates the %{buildroot} for you automatically. Anything under that you need to create yourself.
So when you run
install -m 555 %{_builddir}/%{name}-%{version}/%{name} %{buildroot}%{_sbindir}
where %{buildroot}%{_sbindir} expands to /home/packager/rpmbuild/BUILDROOT/o2arbitord-1.0-1.el6.x86_64/usr/sbin RPM has only created /home/packager/rpmbuild/BUILDROOT/o2arbitord-1.0-1.el6.x86_64 for you already.
You need to create the /usr/sbin part of that path and then copy the file into it.
You can do that with either
%{__mkdir_p} '%{buildroot}%{_sbindir}'
or
%{__install} -d '%{buildroot}%{_sbindir}'
Where
$ rpm -E '__mkdir_p = %{__mkdir_p}'
__mkdir_p = /bin/mkdir -p
$ rpm -E '__install = %{__install}'
__install = /usr/bin/install
