I am trying to use my company's mailhost for sending email to internal mail groups but I am unable to send an email.
It throws exception as below:
"javax.mail.MessagingException: 501 5.0.0 HELO requires domain address
at com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport.issueCommand(SMTPTransport.java:1363)"
Is it a limitation or I need to use SES only for sending emails?
Is there any configuration that I need to do and I might have missed?
Anything to check in VPC if the ports are open?
Should I use port number as 25 or 587?
Will it help if I assign the VPC to my lambda?
More details:
1) I am looking to make an email message more readable than what comes from SNS
Thanks!
I got the answer for this from javax.mail.MessagingException: 501 5.5.1 HELO/EHLO requires domain address.
The main property that will fix this issue is props.put("mail.smtp.localhost", smtpHost);
Hope this will help someone.
Thanks!

I have a Coldfusion page (CF10) that creates a report and sends it via cfmail to a list of recipients. The ones in our internal domain are receiving, but the external addresses are not.
I found a couple threads where people were having the exact same problem, and the solution was to add the CF server's IP address to the Exchange server. So our IT guys did just that - they added the IP addresses of all of our production servers to the receive connector on the Exchange server. However, the mails are still not being relayed, and I'm continuing to get the same message in the mail log:
javax.mail.SendFailedException: Invalid Addresses; nested exception is: com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPAddressFailedException: 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay
I'm not familiar with everything that needs to happen to make the Exchange Server relay email to external addresses. Adding the IP addresses to the receive connector obviously isn't enough. Are there other steps that need to be performed?
Coordinate with your IT guys. Write a ColdFusion page that they can run that sends mail to an external address they can access. Then tell them to do what they have to do to receive mail at that address.
Solution was simple - we originally specified the mail server in the cfadmin mail settings, but included no username/password. That worked fine, until we wanted to start sending cfmails to addresses outside of our own domain. So IT created a dedicated "Noreply" account for this purpose, and I entered the username/password in the cfadmin mail settings.
I install a brand new VM in Azure (debian). The thing is that the email i send isnt accepted by the remote mailservers. In my gmail the mail is received in my spambox and at my own webhoster the mail isnt even visible at all.
Ofcourse this can have several reasons and has todo with spam recognizion etc. The thing is that i see some errors in my mail headers what, i think, is causing the problems.
Received-SPF: temperror (google.com: error in processing during lookup of root#hstop40-w01.hstop40-web.a4.internal.cloudapp.net: DNS timeout) client-ip=137.117.203.77;
I have a cloud instance called hstop40-web and my server is called hstop40-w01.
I am kinda lost on what todo next. Hope that someone can help me fix this
Thnx
You need to ensure, at the most basic level, that reverse name resolution works for your SMTP host (i.e. 137.117.203.77 must resolve to the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) you use in your SMTP headers). If this isn't true you'll most likely get mail rejected from most public SMTP hosts (gmail included).
Beyond this challenge (which you can control by setting up DNS correctly) you might still get rejected mail because a lot of blacklists will inlcude IP address ranges from Azure and AWS (this is why both offer mail services - SendGrid on Azure and Simple Email Service (SES) on AWS).
i have a big problem with the setup for an Domain.
The Webservices are established on our Server but the Mail functions are on a Server of an other Company when we now want send an Email over our Server he tried to send it localy insted of sending it to an other server so he give back an no account here error.
Thanks for helping me out and friendly greetings.
Edit: OS Debian 6
Imap: Courier
Send: Postfix
CP: Plesk
Further to this, we are using Plesk 11.5.3 on a setup where a single mail service is activated for all domains.
So each domain cannot have the mail service turned on or off individually.
We had the same problem as Franco, and we fixed this by running the following command for each domain that had external email:
# /usr/local/psa/bin/mail --off domain.com
Works perfectly, and removes any previously created local email addresses from Postfix.
"The problem is because the server will attempt to deliver emails for the domain name locally by default. To resolve that problem you would need to set it to use the domain name's MX record."
The simple answer is to disable mail services for the subscription.
Untick the box for "Activate mail service on domain".
I would like like guidance regarding an issue we are having on our CentOS server.
Just recently we noticed that we cannot send emails to Hotmail.com mailboxes from our domain email. I also discovered that we're getting a lot of mail delivery failure emails in one of the inbox's that we don't use.
I've checked the mail logs and saw some suspicious activity. Unfortunately, I don't know much with regards to mail server and how they behave. Can someone shine some light on this situation and tell me if some is connecting to our SMTP server remotely and sending spam emails to various recipients? What other steps should I take to prevent this?
Here is part of the log:

As you can see above, the IP that connected to the SMTP server is from China. I have a dozen of similar connections made in the log.
I am not sure how to resolve this issue.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,

You have two separate problems.
Sending to Hotmail: They have a web page regarding their own private white list, and if you're not on the list, you get blocked.
Receiving delivery status notices for messages not sent: Someone is spoofing your domain in messages they're sending to others. You need to protect your domain with some authentication technology. The two most common are called "sender policy framework" and domainkeys.
I got this project "skpsmtpmessage" and I tried to send mail first. So I changed all the mail id to gmail id. But replay host is problem. I tried smtp.gmail.com, smtp.google.com, smtp.googletalk.com. But when I run my program, I get error that "Unable to connect server"
Which relay host should I use for gmail.
The correct SMTP server for Gmail is smtp.gmail.com, but I don't know how to help you further, the question is pretty vague.
You can also take a look at the configuration instructions for using Gmail on the iPhone to see if you're making a mistake with another parameter.
