I updated my VS Code at the morning and now at night it shows a badge on setting icon for install updates. As it seems VS Code update files arrives every second to second and it makes me to install updates (it makes you to close editor and when you want to open it, take a long time to install the new updates and then opens the updated version).
I know that being up to date is cool but forcing you to update twice a day is not cool for me, so is there any way to disable vs code from updating?
Have you tried updating JSON User settings to "update.mode": "none"
Navigation steps:
File > Preferences > Settings or [ Ctrl + Shift + , ]

How do I opt out of VS Code auto-updates?
By default, VS Code is set up to auto-update for macOS and Windows
users when we release new updates. If you do not want to get automatic
updates, you can set the update.channel setting from default to none.
To modify the update channel, go to File > Preferences > Settings and
add the update.channel setting with the value "none".
"update.mode": "none"
I had this problem for a long time and solved as in the steps in the screenshot. I set it to manual and it works:
The none option works so no clear difference between the two options.
go to File > Preferences > Settings (macOS: Code > Preferences > Settings), search for update mode and change the setting to none

When I'm opening settings using Preferences: Open Settings (JSON) I'm getting screen like this:
But in VSCode videos/tutorials I see people somehow have splitted window, with default settings on the left and user/workspace setting on the right:
How I can enable it?
===========================
EDIT:
I found "workbench.settings.openDefaultSettings" option and set it to true, but still my UI is different from desired on screenshot above ( I don't see search box for searching settings, also I don't see the message Place your settings in the right ... to override):
As mentioned #Juraj Kocan in comments, it happens after last VS Code updates.
This is Github issue related to this new "feature"
This one helped me:
"workbench.settings.useSplitJSON": true,
"workbench.settings.editor": "json",
How to Get to the JSON settings in Newer Versions of VS Code
In the latest versions of VS Code, you can convert back to the split JSON settings editor by changing the following settings in the (now standard) UI settings editor:
Workbench > Settings: Editor
Change from UI to json
Workbench > Settings: Use Split JSON
Checkmark to enable the option
after making this change, VS Code will open its settings as a JSON file, like in older versions of the application, rather than in the new UI. This allows you to make the changes that other answers provide, directly in the JSON (if you can find the right place and file to make them in..)
NOTE: Whether or not you actually want to use the JSON settings is a different question. Most of the time, the settings search function allows finding the same settings in the new UI. Sometimes it is difficult to get search to work though, especially if the settings are worded differently in the new UI style. There may also be cases where extensions haven't been updated to accommodate the new UI setting style, and so there is no option but to enter the JSON directly.
Not sure what do you mean by "Default".
steps to open setting by keyboard are:
press Ctrl+p (an input command line would appear at the top.)
press >
A List will appear like that in image. (search preference for all vs code settings)
Is there any way that we can enable auto scroll in Visual Studio Code? I have been looking in the settings but could not find anything(unless i missed something).
I am reviewing a log file and as it gets updated, its refreshed on my side. But it is not showing the latest logs but just stays where my cursor was and highlights everything that gets populated after that.
Had the same problem but did not find a setting within VS Code.
However there is an extension for VS Code:
https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=pejmannikram.vscode-auto-scroll
Works quite well for me.
There's now a built in VSCode setting - you can untick Smart Scroll option (output.smartScroll.enabled).
As described here:
VSCode: Turn auto scrolling permanently ON
"An option to turn off the smart scroll feature was included in one of the recents update (probably in the March 2020 update, I didn't found this on the changelog), see more: issue #69480
Since then, I've been able to "save" the scroll state, try this:
Go to File > Preferences > Settings (or Ctrl + ,)
In Features > Output, disable Smart Scroll option (or search output.smartScroll.enabled)"
Inside Visual Studio code editor(version 1.15.0) the cursor moves to end of line when taking a small pause while editing some text inside my file. Please help
Recently, I had the same kind of issue and the extension caused to the problem was EditorConfig. So what I simply did is open the file:
.editorconfig
which available in the same working directory, then I change:
insert_final_newline = true
to
insert_final_newline = false
Problem solved! :)
This problem is due to document formatting extension installed on VS CODE. Every time you add new lines to the file and take a pause, file is formatted which will take the cursor to end of file.
Here is the simple solution of your problem:
Go to File, then toggle Auto Save option. This will also prevent auto formatting of document. Formatting will be done on manually saving the document.
If your document is not being formatted on saving the document try this:
Click File > Preference > Settings
Type editor.format in Search Settings input field
Change editor.formatOnSave to true or add the following line to settings file "editor.formatOnSave": true
I fixed this issue by disabling all extension from visual studio code editor. Please see the a
ttached image on how to Disable all extension
After disabling all extension the cursor issue resolved and then i installed/enabled the required extensions only
You can quickly go back to the previous edit location ( before save ) with:
On Mac:
Ctrl+- .. navigate back
On Windows:
Alt+← .. navigate back
On Ubuntu Linux:
Ctrl+Alt+- .. navigate back
Not exactly a solution. But, a quick dirty work-around
I faced an issue and disabled the extension "JS, CSS, HTML Formatter". Now the issue is gone
Uninstall this --->
JS-CSS-HTML Formatter
lonefy.vscode-js-css-html-formatter
lonefy
Solved!
In my case auto save delay time is very less that's why cursor goes end of the page after small delay.
Go to setting -> commonly used ->increase time of Auto save delay.
File > Preferences > Settings > Auto SaveDelay
There you can specify the interval of inactivity in milliseconds:
And also you can turn off autosave (by putting it in the "off" position):
How can I permanently disable this update notification?
Go to File > Preferences > Settings (or hit Ctrl-,)
Here two files will open. One is "Default Settings" and other is "User Settings".
Add a new parameter in "User Settings"
"update.mode": "none"
Then save the files, VS Code will ask you to restart, and then you won't receive the update message.
In GUI configuration, the setting will look like this:
For the latest versions of VS code (I am using version 1.32.2) the parameter "update.channel": "none" is deprecated. To disable updates use "update.mode": "none"
To date, we can't deactivate only the update notification. Either you stop update, or you deactivate all notifications. For the latter: go to settings (ctrl+,) then add:
"editor.parameterHints": false
Go in the settings with ctrl+,.
Then set "update.mode" to "manual".
VS Code will no longer check for updates on its own, but you will still be able to update it when you want to, by clicking on the cog at the bottom left:
If you installed VS Code through a package manager (apt/yum/snap...) it will handle the updates and you can turn them off in code: Settings > Update: Mode > none.
I want to see Netbeans look as like Photoshop CS6 , Visual studio type. So
Installed a dark theme and
I changed some option and code elements colours for my satisfaction.
And I forgot what the changes I did
I tried all the colours combination and it became worse
Even Reinstall also not helped me
I had searched a lot to make it default
My Problem (image) is :
Go to Tools\Options\Fonts & Colors and click on the Restore button.
The help page says:
Click Restore to restore the selected profile to the default settings.
You should go to tools>options>fonts & colors then set the profile to netbeans.
that will restore the colors to default.
In Tools > Options > Fonts & Colors, change Profile from Norway Today to NetBeans.
Alt + Shift + F does the wonder. Incidentally, I used to get this issue too frequently and I noticed that this appears / disappears every time I try the shortcut key for code format (Alt + Shift + F)
i have a same problem and i finally i found a solution
create a new instance of net beans so when you create a new instance the newer instance will contain default settings now if you don't want older instance of net beans delete the older one and start using new one.
it will work 100%
to create a new instance this web site will help you...
http://netbeanside61.blogspot.in/2008/12/opening-multiple-netbeans-ide-instances.html
In my case, i had changed the theme as well as how all my formatting was done. To get it back to default I changed the Netbeans.conf file and restarted the application. The file was found here.
C:\Program Files\NetBeans-12.6\netbeans\etc
