There is a CDT Qt plugin that hangs everything on startup if a C++ file is open.
How to make Eclipse start with all files closed?

Maybe this answer helps you. It shows where the workbench settings are located.

I have recently stated using Eclipse 2019-06 and I have most things working great, but I went to debug an application today and it just hangs before I can even get the run or debug configuration panel open. This works fine in a new 'empty' workspace but when I try it in my big workspace that has many launch configurations from prior versions of Eclipse (mostly Luna), no luck, I have to kill Eclipse at that point.
I do see a launch configuration "Migrate" button under Preferences/Run/Debug but it doesn't see my launch files or let me search for them.
Thankfully I figured this out pretty quickly. I had disabled CodeMix because it was a resource pig and not really helping me but I had created a CodeMix launch which once I removed, my problems went away.
I use eclipse neon with cdt plugin for embedded development (mainly Cortex-M targets).
Most projects are makefile based. For remote debugging, I use the Gdb Hardware Debugging plugin and Segger Jlink (running JlingGdbServer).
Each time I make changes in source code and then want to run them e.g. under debugger control, I have to:
stop the current debug session
build the project
lauch a new debug session
I want to have this 3 steps executed by a single button click (or keyboard shortcut).
Does anybody know how to archive this?
I think, Nxp's LpcXpresso (also eclipse based) have such button.

I recently installed the Aptana plugin into my eclipse IDE and restarted it. Now it doesnt start at all.
I tried deleting the metadata folder and it made it start but crash soon after.
However before crashing there was a message that my version of Aptana is incompatible with firefox (its funny what does firefox has to do with it?).
Anyway after the crash I had three .txt files in my eclipse folder saying that
A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment
Please help me start eclipse.

Aptana plugin crashes Eclipse
But this question isnt properly answered.
I would suggest starting with aptana to begin with if you want to use aptana. However, if that isn't an option and you simply want to remove it from eclipse, you can try this:
Note: This is only how I would attempt it. I haven't tried this.
First, close eclipse and backup your eclipse folder. Next, go through the features and plugins folders and remove all files and folders that reference "aptana".
It was hanging on refreshing workspacing, specifically refreshing files in /target/classes in a project. I renamed that folder and now it hanging on the next progress item: Initializing Java Tooling.
I a unable to start elcipse. If clicking on expanding one of the projects in project view, it stops responding and javaw.exe needs to be killed.
This is on Windows XP
This is Eclipse Indigo
This may help
In your eclipse,
1) Go to Help
2) Click Eclipse marketplace
3) search - optimizer
install "optimizer for eclipse"
This works (the first AND second method)
