I am using Ionic 4 and I created an Ionic tabs page app for navigation. What I want to do now is add a background-color to my ion-tabs but nothing I tried is working. I tried adding the $colors variable to my variable.scss and using color="primary" but that didn't work. Here is my code:
HTML
<ion-tabs>
<ion-tab label="Home" icon="home" href="/tabs/(home:home)">
<ion-router-outlet name="home"></ion-router-outlet>
</ion-tab>
<ion-tab label="Passport" icon="information-circle" href="/tabs/(passport:passport)">
<ion-router-outlet name="passport"></ion-router-outlet>
</ion-tab>
<ion-tab label="Tours" icon="contacts" href="/tabs/(tours:tours)">
<ion-router-outlet name="tours"></ion-router-outlet>
</ion-tab>
</ion-tabs>

You can directly change background by applying css to .tabbar class
.tabs-md .tabbar , .tabs-ios .tabbar{
background: red;
}

According to the Ionic Framework documentation, it states in the dark mode that in order to apply dark themes, you simply have to copy and paste the dark theme code that Ionic has provided that can be seen here

So I applied the theme accordingly in my variables.scss file. However, I am confused as to
why it doesn't seem to have an effect on my elements?
Like for instance, in the ios and material dark theme, there is a variable declared --ion-card-background in which I was expecting that background color to be applied on the card by default for the <ion-card> tag.

Header not showing up for blackberry work ios and the wrapper isn't being respected for blackberry email. Padding is also not respected in blackberry email for buttons.
I've tried border, align, adding a wrapper div for the weird space after that appears around images. I've given up on responsiveness for those clients but I would like to just look cohesive.

Let's say I want to create a custom button element that extends the default html button tag.
My component would look more or less like this:
#Component({
selector: 'my-button',
styles: []
template: `<button><ng-content></ng-content></button>`
})
export class MyButton{}
The issue is that instead of a regular HTML button, I get the ionic2 button. How can I bypass the ionic 2 button component and create my own?
Have you tried with an anchor element?
<a class="my-button"><ng-content></ng-content></a>
and some default button styles like these (or the styles you want to apply to it):
a.my-button {
align-items: flex-start;
text-align: center;
cursor: default;
color: buttontext;
border-image-source: initial;
border-image-slice: initial;
border-image-width: initial;
border-image-outset: initial;
border-image-repeat: initial;
background-color: buttonface;
box-sizing: border-box;
padding: 2px 6px 3px;
border-width: 2px;
border-style: outset;
border-color: buttonface;
padding: 1px 6px;
text-rendering: auto;
color: initial;
letter-spacing: normal;
word-spacing: normal;
text-transform: none;
text-indent: 0px;
text-shadow: none;
display: inline-block;
text-align: start;
margin: 0em 0em 0em 0em;
font: 13.3333px Arial;
}
<div>
<style>
.dim {
height:100%;
width:100%;
position:fixed;
left:0;
top:0;
z-index:1 !important;
background-color:black;
filter: alpha(opacity=75); /* internet explorer */
-khtml-opacity: 0.75; /* khtml, old safari */
-moz-opacity: 0.75; /* mozilla, netscape */
opacity: 0.75; /* fx, safari, opera */
}
.wrapper {
width: 100%;
top: 0px;
left: 0px;
position: absolute;
z-index: 5;
display: block;
}
.popup { width: 400px;
height: 200px;
margin: 0 auto;
padding: 40px;
background-color: #fff;
border: 1px solid #ccc;
color: #333;
}
</style>
<div class="dim"></div>
<div class="wrapper">
<div class="popup">

here's the code I actually got from another post and it makes the pop up for the most part and it dims the screen but it doesn't close or have a close button so there's no way of closing it once it's opened. so add a close button?
Your going to have to do a little JavaScript to get this to work, so that the code can detect the click event on the close button. I have previously used Colorbox to handle popups as it has quite a large number of features and is well documented, although you could also create your own using CSS3 and use javascript to add or remove a class.
Something like:
<style>
#basicElement {
/* style here */
}
#basicElement.open {
/* style here */
animation: popup 25s linear;
-moz-animation: popup 25s linear;
-ms-animation: popup 25s linear;
-o-animation: popup 25s linear;
-webkit-animation: popup 25s linear;
}
#basicElement.closed {
/* style here */
animation: popup 25s linear;
-moz-animation: popup 25s linear;
-ms-animation: popup 25s linear;
-o-animation: popup 25s linear;
-webkit-animation: popup 25s linear;
animation-direction: reverse;
-moz-direction: reverse;
-ms-direction: reverse;
-o-direction: reverse;
-webkit-direction: reverse;
}
#-webkit-keyframes popup {
0% {
background-size: 100% 100%;
}
100% {
background-size: 130% 130%;
background-position: center bottom;
}
}
</style>
<script>
$('#open').click(function (){ $(this).removeClass('closed').addClass('open'); });
$('#close').click(function (){ $(this).removeClass('open').addClass('closed'); });
</script>
I am trying to change the default css but nothing happens, even if I do
bar.setStylePrimaryName("gwt-TabBar");
Here is my CSS, even trying to change the Header does not work H1
Why isnt it changing?
/** Add css rules here for your application. */
/** Example rules used by the template application (remove for your app) */
body {
color: black;
font-family: Lucida Grande, Tahoma, Verdana, Arial, sans-serif;
font-size: 10px;
margin: 20px 20px 20px 20px;
}
h1 {
font-size: 2em;
font-weight: bold;
border: 8px solid #C3D9FF;
background-color: #E8EEF7;
color: #000099;
margin: 40px 0px 70px;
text-align: center;
}
.gwt-TabBar {
background-color: #C3D9FF;
}
.gwt-TabBar .gwt-TabBarFirst {
background-color: #C3D9FF;
}
.gwt-TabBar .gwt-TabBarRest {
background-color: #C3D9FF;
}
.gwt-TabBar .gwt-TabBarItem {
background-color: #C3D9FF;
}
.gwt-TabBar .gwt-TabBarItem-selected {
background-color: #C3D9FF;
}
I have some ideas: did you import the css into application? You can either do that in your application.gwt.xml or in your index.html.
is the css loaded? you can check this using firebug. check your target folder or war folder to find out the path.
the browser often caches the css; and you have to force its reload.
you can do this by pressing the shift key when you press the "reload" button.
I second checking if the css has changed in firebug as well.
