I created a chat application using ionic and socket.io-client.
In my app when I select a user to begin chat with, my App loads recent chat data from the server then presents it to the user. If there is no network connection, then user cannot see the previous chat messages. so, I want to store the chat messages in to ionic local storage or there is any other better way to store them.
Please kindly advice me a better way to load my recent chat between two users, instead of fetching from the server each time the user is selected.

For each conversation I would:
1. Send message to server
2. storage.get(conversationID) ....
3. add message and last message send timestamp to conversation
4. storage.set(conversationID) ....
When loading messages:
1. storage.get(conversationID) ....
2. Check if newer messages are available
3. If yes -> fetch
3.1. add messages and last message send timestamp to conversation
4. storage.set(conversationID) ....
Always display the local values only and update those when receiving anything. You can also remember object references when sending messages and mark them as not send if any network exception occurs.

I am developing a mobile messaging app (ios) and I support the logout feature. I want to keep the latest conversation list when the users logs in back again. Because the local storage of the app gets cleaned once logout.
I am using MAM XEP-0313 sucessfully but I have not found an IQ to query the conversation list of a particular user.
For example:

user_a -> user_b
user_c
user_d
user_f
user_a has had conversations with 4 users and he wants to logout of the app, when he comes back in he needs to get those last 4 conversation threads on his list.
What I do when a user messages another user is that I add them to my roster and have the logic of automatic subscription. So I was thinking to use the roster history logic to query this collection but I was also expecting the MAM module to have a more direct way..

I understand your problem, the solution you have is probably the best one you can have with standard XEPs and their implementations.
The conversation list is actually sth missing in MAM spec or in general in XMPP. There are some works to define an extension to get you all the conversations where you have some unread messages (so called "unread sync"). Will this be enough for you or you would rather want to get some kind of "inbox". By "inbox" I mean a list of all recent conversations with unread messages count where there are some unread messages.

Think of a simple TASK Management application which can have n number of users. Say User A can create a task & assign it to User B. I want to show a notification to User B.
I am using Firebase as BAAS and following code-snippet prints on console only when there is a task assigned to User B. To simplfy, Users collection in Firebase has a node called tasksAssignedToThisUser array and callback function will be watching tasksAssignedToThisUser location. Whenever a new task gets added to that array, callback function gets executed. Here is the code snippet:

This is definitely not what I want and maintaining a server for sending push notifications makes sense when bulk messages needs to be pushed to large number of devices. So I didn't name my question as Real Time Push Notifications.
I see a function being executed, which meets my use-case and I just want app to display a notification to the user in his mobile system tray on that callback function execution.
I am using Ionic 1 for developing app, completely new to Firebase and Ionic too. If there is a simple serverless approach that Firebase itself provides which can suffice my requirement, then I would be more than happy to hear about it.
I'm making an app where I want to be able to set a basic notification (title, message, fire date) and have been trying to figure out the best way to setup the notifications. I'm working with Swift 3 and Firebase 3.
I don't want to use local notifications because if the user is logged in on multiple devices I want it to push to all those devices.
Is there a way to do this with FCM where a user can set a notification to fire at a specific date and time and have it fire on all (iOS) devices logged in?
If FCM doesn't have this, is there another APK that does? I've looked at Batch briefly but I'm already using Firebase.

If your main use case is to send a push notification to a single user for his multiple devices, I suggest you make use of Device Group Messaging on iOS. As per the docs, it is typically used for:
With device group messaging, app servers can send a single message to multiple instances of an app running on devices belonging to a group. Typically, "group" refers a set of different devices that belong to a single user.
When it comes to sending the notification on a specific date, I'm pretty sure you can set it up in the Firebase Console.
However, if you intend it to be sent from the server, you have to implement it yourself, since I think, there is no currently API available or a parameter you can set in the payload that can be modified for the message to be sent for a specific date.
I have java server application. And I need to monitor a lot of gmail accounts to be able to send push notifications to mobile devices about new Inbox messages.
I need to know sender email and message subject to send push notification.
And I tried Gmail push notifications system (webhooks option)
If I understood everything correctly in order to get needed info for each new message for each user there is a following scenario:
Google sends me email and history id via https request.
I call history API and get new message ids for user
I request message info by message id
That means that I need 2 additional requests for each new message of each user. And it looks quite hard if server needs to handle several new messages each second. And I still don't see other way.
Is there any way to make it shorter? (e.g. to make google send me not only history id but needed new message details or at least make one additional request, but not two)

We tried using Push notifications but the volume of requests generated has meant that we poll on a timed basis instead. It is worth noting that you will get Push notifications for any change to the message such as a label change, a read status change etc. As you say there are many requests.
If you need the notifications real-time I don't see how you can avoid the process that you outline.
If you don't need it real-time then you can poll or at the least check for Push notifications per account on a timed basis and if some have been received retrieve any new messages in a batch rather than a single request.
I was facing the same problem. History API was not giving recent messageId. I solved this problem by hitting THREAD API where i set Q = last 5 min timestamp.
Webhook push notification is helping to notify a new mail has come. After i get all messages last 10 min with THREAD API.
In didReceiveRemoteNotification, is it possible to see if there are other/older push notifications that haven't been responded to?
I have a scenario where each notification contains different data, and unless you exit app and select every single notification for your app. You app wont be able to get to that data.
I'm thinking that iOS must be storing that information in an array somewhere, but haven't been able to find anything through Google.
Advice please? Last chance saloon would be re-writing it to poll a server for notifications.
You cannot guarantee that your app will ever receive any push notification sent to it. The only way it does is if it is running when it receives the message or if the notification is used to launch your app.
I would recommend implementing a web service on your server that allows your app to pull down the data it needs from these notifications when it is running.
