Can AEM 6.2 be enhanced to support webp? - aem

We need to support webp images in AEM 6.2.
As this is not supported by default, is there a possibility to enhance AEM by adding and rendering a new mime type?

You could implement a workflow process step to do this along with a Java WebP library such as webp-imageio [0], then add this step to your default asset workflow (usually update_asset) so they are created along with the standard web/thumb renditions.
Alternatively you can convert them offline ad-hoc and upload as a custom rendition if you only need them for a few assets.

AEM 6.4 asset renditions, is it safe to remove all the rendition

I have created a custom workflow model for DAM update asset. I have kept two steps only Metadata Processor and DAM Update Asset Workflow Completed
I am on 6.4 and I could see 319x319 rendition is used in content finder. Want to know if other renditions are used by any default AEM components? If used, is there any possibility to make all of them point to a single rendition?
You can safely remove all renditions, if, in fact, you do not use them at all and you display the raw image from your DAM (the only downside is that your Content Authors will lose several thumbnails, usually helpful to identify the asset they want to use). If you need image manipulation and optimization, you can review ACS Commons Named Transform Image Servlet or any other external service (Akamai, Adobe Dynamic Media).

Optimise images in AEM

We are using AEM 6.2 and want to optimise multiple images in AEM to get a low resolution image. Please suggest how can we get low resolution images upon uploading the images or some other way.
If you are using ACS commons, explore named-image-transform else you have to generate custom renditions using Workflows.
If you already have an Dynamic media add on , try to leverage smart imaging
You can leverage ImageMagick and modify the DAM Asset Workflow to create low-resolution images renditions.

AEM - import static pages?

We're considering using Adobe Experience Manager for an upcoming project. But we have a number of pre-made static pages we'd like to import into this project. What would be the best way to 'import' these pages into an AEM project?
Note: these pages are HTML that may contain some CSS and JS.
You can serve static HTML, CSS and JS files from AEM. There are multiple ways of getting your files in AEM including but not limited to:
1) Through CRXDE, goto Create > Create File... name your HTML file and save. On the jcr:content subnode, double click on the jcr:data binary property, upload your HTML file and click save.
2) cURL your files into AEM. See the documentation on the SlingPostServlet. You can write a script in Bash, Python or your language of choice to loop over your files and POST to the AEM instance.
3) Go to CRXDE Package Manager, create a simple package, download it and unzip the file. Examine the contents of the zip including the .content.xml files and the /META-INF/vault/filter.xml file. Add your HTML files and update the package filters, zip up the files, upload the package to AEM through the CRXDE Package Manager and install.
Adding to what "nateyolles" has already mentioned,
Adobe Experience Manager provides several options (direct/Indirect) for either importing or exporting data (within the AEM tool they are labeled importers and are found under the tools area). Lets look at each option so you can decide which one will best service your current needs.
1) Site Importer – Allows you to import either a web page or an entire website into AEM. For site imports, you will need to need to specify the project title, site URL (of page or site to import), thumbnail image for the template, the sitemap (for the pages in CQ using the template) and whether or not you want to overwrite (if page or site exist in AEM)

2) Feed Importer – The feed import option within Adobe Experience Manager provides the ability to import content via a feed (whether that be an RSS feed or an Atom feed). This can be extremely beneficial to blog creators, like myself, who might want to bring in the content of their blog (from say WordPress, Drupal or another CMS) into an AEM environment.
3) Offline Importer – This functionality, within Adobe Experience Manager, provides the ability to import content from Microsoft Office Word document files into AEM templates (ending with the file extension of .doc). Please note that you should reach out to Adobe’s consulting team for asssistance on this so that they can set up the inputs in the most optimal way to receive your offline data.
4) Import from older version of CQ – This is a pretty straightforward way to import or upgrade from an older version of CQ. If you are familar with AEM, you can stop existing instance, if you have a stand alone instance of AEM replace the jar file, and restart
If you have an application server instance, you will follow these steps:
Stop existing instance, replace the war file and restart.
5) Bulk Editor – This feature provides a multitude of functionality within AEM. For starters, you can make large changes to content at once. Secondly, you can export content to CSV (Microsoft Excel) files.

Add custom metadata fields for DAM assets in a particular folder

I created custom metadata fields for DAM Assets in CQ 5.6.1 using the steps detailed here. However, as described in the document, these changed fields are available for ALL assets in the DAM.
I need these metadata fields to be made available to only a specific folder, say /content/dam/foo instead of every asset.
How can I achieve this?
In my knowledge, there is no straight forward way to achieve this but there is one trick to handle this.
AEM DAM has the notion of meta schema editors. These editors are tied to asset file type, meaning - jpeg, mov, etc. For an asset MIME type, you can define the meta data and its associated form.
AEM 6.0 provides choral UI interface to achieve this --
http://localhost:4502/libs/dam/gui/content/metadataschemaeditor/schemalist.html/dam/content/schemaeditors/forms
Am not aware of any such interface in AEM 5.6.1. The nodes tied to this are at /libs/dam/content/asseteditors/image/jpeg/formitems. You could overlay them at /apps to add the required metadata.
Coming to the question, the trick is to add the file type into your dam content hierarchy. Example - /content/dam/jpeg/foo, /content/dam/png/foo, etc. This way, you would get different metadata for different folders of the dam.
Adobe recommends this approach as AEM 6.0 introduced the concept of processing profiles which you could attach to folders. This way, your different file types could get different treatments.

silverstripe upload tiff and convert to jpeg

i´m working on a image database build with silverstripe framework. It needs to be able to upload large tiff files and they should be converted to jpeg. is there a build in function to do that, or do I have to use a library for that?
Regards,
Florian
SilverStripe doesn't have built-in image conversion utilities, just a GD class which mainly handles resizing of existing images (in gif/jpg/png).
ImageMagick supports conversion of TIFFs (see supported formats). I'm sure you can find PHP wrapper libraries for it (doesn't have to be specific to SilverStripe), or use the commandline tool directly via exec().
Other than that, we have the UploadField class to handle uploads. It uses the jQuery fileupload plugin, which supports larger files (although server timeouts and PHP config play a role here as well). You might want to look into chunked uploads.
