I have not used JasperReports in a number of years. It has changed :-) I've decided that the Community version of Jasper Server is what I need. The install (Postgres and Tomcat defaults) went smoothly and was happy when poking around the result. However, I cannot get my MySQL datasource to test correctly...even though I'm logged in as an admin user and the connection (all at localhost) works fine in JasperStudio. To make matters worse, I want to use the dashboard tool. All the tutorials show what looks like a dash for the tool that includes a big Dashboard icon...but I don't know how to see that page. For me, it defaults to a page with a folder listing on the left and repository display in the main frame. Where is the tool's dashboard? I don't even see the "create" tab across the top frame...all I see is: Library, View, Manage...
Did I miss something in the setup? I followed the directions that came with the 7.x install without any red flags...
Jasper Servevr Community edition does not supports features like adhoc reporting, dashboards, visualize.js etc.. If you are looking for Dashboard feature either you have to use Professional or Enterprise.

I'm using JasperReport Server 8.0.0 (community version), and I'm trying to get a panel with images to appear when I login, where clicking on the images allows me to navigate to other sites on the server,however, while I was looking for information to do that, only information appeared with the commercial version and not with the community version, so my question is if I can do that with the community version and in the same way if I can, I would appreciate what steps I should continue to achieve the goal.
Is it possible to embed code coverage results (stored in SonarQube) into Github projects as one of those embeddable icon gadgets (not sure what their name is; it would be great if somebody to tell me that as well)...? I'm referring to the ones that show the build status, for example.
The only thing currently available is this under-development plugin, which was first discussed in this Google Group thread. Note that this project appears to be in its infancy.

With SonarQube 7.1, badges become a native feature.
Using a plugin in no longer needed, as some new APIs are now added that will do what you want. You can use this snippet in your .md files:

Note that you have to replace parameters inside {}s with your own values. If you are using on-premise version, the domain will be your own domain and if you are using cloud version, it will be sonarcloud.io.
Also note that this will work only for public projects. For private ones, I could not find any solution.
And finally as a side note, the metric parameter takes some values other than coverage and gives other fantastic badges that you may find helpful:
bugs, code_smells, coverage, duplicated_lines_density, ncloc, sqale_rating, alert_status, reliability_rating, security_rating, sqale_index, vulnerabilities
I am using jasperreports-server-5.1.1 , and i am using the REST api to integrate jasperreports with my app.
The api for running reports mentions the parameter "interactive=true", but also mentions - "In a commercial editions of the server where HighCharts are used in the report,
this property determines whether the JavaScript necessary for interaction is
generated when exporting to HTML." .... which i interpret as "only available with commercial edition". Am i right ?
Also, pagination doesnt work.... so is it also allowed only on, commercial edition ?

As far as I know the ad-hoc reporting component is only available in the Pro version (i.e. commercial edition). The community edition is really just a teaser but not really useful for production environments. Did you have a look at ReportServer? It's completely open source, allows you to execute Jasper Reports (and Eclipse Birt if you want) and comes with powerful ad-hoc reporting capabilities.

Use one of the archetypes to get you started, then customise it. When you are comfortable you can change the UI layer to be whatever you like.

If you are looking for a solid "base" tool shell to begin with tool development my recommendation would be to start here: "Sakai Wicket Maven Archetype". There are a few other very good archetypes available but are often outdated and may cause you some problems based on my experience. This has been the one I've had the most success with.
This uses Wicket but does not mean you have to use Wicket to develop further with it. Make sure to pull the 1.2 version as last check the binaries for the others were not available yet so replace -DarchetypeVersion=1.4.1 with -DarchetypeVersion=1.2 It will compile and deploy successfully as a tool "as-is" that you can modify as needed. It also allows you to code in Java to directly access the sakai API and pull from its database or even add your own tables. I've successfully used it with NetBeans 8.0.1 and MySQL 5.6 under Windows 7 with Maven 3.2.3 and Sakai 10.1.
The code is well-documented and is no-frills but with enough varied functional use examples to allow you to do "almost" anything you want. The wicket manual is 600+ pages but in my experience you should be able to accomplish a lot just by looking at the code in the archetype.
is there a way to create a task/activity report (say a weekly report) off tasks managed with Mylyn? I've been using Rachota TimeTracker which allows me to create reports (in html format)

I've just started using mylyn (our company uses Embarcadero JBuilder which is is based on Eclipse), but I don't see anywhere in the Eclipse or Embarcadero docs about reporting capabilities.
Is it possible? Is it possible to query activities worked on a prior week and report statistics out of it (management like reports, you know;) I'm sure it is, but I haven't been able to google it out.

You're in luck, Tasktop Pro (the supported version of Mylyn) has reporting. It allows you to:
View all task activity times for the previous day, week, and month
Manually adjust times as necessary to account for meetings and discussions
Submit your adjusted times, on tasks you select, to your task repository
Create reports in various formats
I'd recommend this short video which explains the reporting features in about 6 minutes.

As you already know by now, the reporting functionality is included into commercial Tasktop product, which is developed by the same people who created Mylyn. So, obviously they are not interested to include some features into a free version. Now you have two options, either buy Tasktop, or develop your own extension for Mylyn. The task data is stored in reasonable simple xml file, so you not necessarily have to create an Eclipse plugin.
the reporting feature was stripped from the project when it used to be called mylar, in 2007, and since the project went commercial never came back to the open source mylyn for obvious reasons..
I found this simple perl script which outputs a pretty basic text only report, good enough for me.

No takers? Not surprised since I can't find anything on the subject. For what's worth, there is an experimental task/activity report available for Mylyn with the sandbox jar. However, I could not get mine to work as I'm tied up with a JBuilder installation behind a firewall (and I can't download anything on the corp network that is not pre-evaluated... it sucks, I know.)
I'm going to have to experiment with the mylyn sandox at home, but it would be great if someone knows of an easier, more stable alternative.
