So I have two time series on one time axis. However, the second time series (Exiters) has null data for the last time period (2018 Q3). Tableau is currently dealing with this null data point by extending the series line to to the bottom which ultimately makes it appear to any user that the data has dipped to "0". Extending the line to "0" is misleading in my opinion.
That being said, is there any way to exclude this null data point only without affecting the data in the other time series (Participants)? Basically, I just want to exclude this specific null data point, have the Exiter time series end at 2018 Q2 and maintain the Participant time series ending at 2018 Q3. This surely is possible right?see image here
In my attempts to reproduce this, I kept finding that the default behavior was to act as you are desiring; to have Exiter end at Q2 while Participant displays into Q3.
I was able to reproduce the "0" effect, though, once I clicked on the following button "Show data at default position" after clicking on the "2 Nulls" button at the bottom right of the viz:
I wonder if perhaps at some point that button was clicked in the creation of this workbook. More information on default positions here.
The way to revert this behavior, which may end up giving you the view you are looking for is:

In forms collection, users provide me data. Most importantly in the data given is the date(s) they select (or sign up for, in my instance). I've created new tabs in the spreadsheet that are associated with the dates. I'm copying and pasting the exact information that they provide into the correct date(s) tab. Sometimes they select multiple dates. However, at this rate, I'm moving so slow and making many mistakes.
Is there a code that can duplicate what I'm doing to avoid the simple mistakes I'm making and save time?
Updated: here is the link to a mock sheet (I hope I did it right): Mock Sheet

Thank you for sharing your spreadsheet. Here is what I recommend:
1.) In your existing individual date sheets, select and delete whichever columns you will not be using; likewise, select and delete all rows beyond the maximum number of rows you might ever need per sheet. Keeping sheets trim is the professional standard, makes it easier to focus on the important information, and assures maximum processing speed.
2.) Delete everything from your existing individual date sheets, including the headers.
3.) Place the following formula into cell A1 of each sheet:
=FILTER({Sheet1!A:D,Sheet1!F:F},(ROW(Sheet1!A:A)=1)+(REGEXMATCH(Sheet1!E:E,"December 17, 2021")))
Adjust the date in quotation marks to match the sheet. It seems that all of your events may be happening from 5:00 - 9:00, so you don't need to include that if my assumption is correct. However, if there are different times on the same day (and will therefore be two different sheets for that day), you will need to include the start time in the formula's quotes as well, exactly as it will come in from the form (e.g., "December 17, 2021 Friday, 5:00pm"). The hyphen and end time seems it would be superfluous and can be left off.
4.) To create a new individual date sheet, simply duplicate an existing individual date sheet, rename the copy, color your header row as desired, and change the formula section between those quotes in the A1 formula (which will already be in place from the duplicate sheet.
5.) Since you will be adding further notes or other information in additional columns within each individual date sheet, be sure that you never delete information from Sheet1; otherwise, the formula-produces row information will collapse to eliminate deleted rows, and your manually entered data will not match up. For this reason, I recommend simply Hide-ing Sheet1 entirely, as this will cut down on the chance that someone may accidentally tamper with the data coming into that sheet. There is not reason to have Sheet1 showing, since all data will be included in some other sheet due to the formulas there.
The formula FILTERs in only the five target columns, which are included in the opening virtual array formed between the curly brackets { }; and it will include rows that match either one of two conditions (shown between sets of parentheses, where the plus symbol means 'OR'): either A.) the row is Row 1 (i.e., the header row information) or B.) the part in quotes can be found in Sheet1!E:E.
Second shift creates inventory and it is timestamped at that time.
The issue is when it comes to reporting if I choose second shift for 1/10/2019 I wont get any of the inventory created after midnight, because the date changed.
For example: 2nd shift on the 9th produced two items. one before midnight and one after midnight. I run a report asking what second shift produced on the 9th, but it only returns pallet one and not pallet two, because pallet two technically was created on the 10th.
I can't just select second shift on the 9th and 10th, because then I'll get the last half of the 9th's second shift production, and the first half of the 10th second shift production. I'd also prefer not to make my report viewers enter a time in addition to the date.
I need one of two things...
1. a way to input this data in a way that I can get the data i need.
2. a way to output this data in a way that i can get the data I need. (this one preferably)
The data is in SQL, and I am creating this report in SSRS.
I have tried entering date and time, but still not getting desired result...
Since you seem to have your Shift number in your data and it's timestamped, you can use a CASE statement to adjust the datetime based on the shift.
SELECT SHIFT, PRODUCTION_DATE,
CASE SHIFT WHEN 2 THEN DATEADD(HOUR, -8, PRODUCTION_DATE) ELSE PRODUCTION_DATE END AS PRODUCTION_DATE_ADJUSTED
FROM TABLE
I'm a beginner for tableau. I want to get the direct numbers for each row, but i get the number which are separate, how can i achieve this?
I've tried the sentence like:count("Implemented"), but I don't get the result I want.
For example, for the 1st row I want 3 10 10
not 111 10 112111111
Here is worksheet.
My code:
EDIT :
here is the photo for implementation opportunities
As you can see, the status is related to the date, I think maybe it causes the records which are counted 1by1.
Now the situation is that: i create the code which is related to the date, if i remove this from mark, it will cause the problem (the code is related to the date), but if i leave it, the system will always count it one by one. My code is not perfect but i can't find another one which can replace it.....
EDIT 2:
in short, what i want is the sum of the remaining opportunity:10
capture
Remove DAY from Mark shelf. That detail is producing those separations.
Attaching a workbook with numbers similar to (but not exact due to proprietary issues) is almost always advised. You will get the right answer a lot sooner than just screenshots.
In any case, it seems as if the measure portion of the visualization is properly being summed by the date. Try selecting the measure, and manually selecting "sum" from the menu drop down. Here is a link for more detail.
Secondly, you can play around with table calculations. Click this link and read up on option 3.
I've got a workbook I'm building using public data https://public.tableau.com/profile/alee4645#!/vizhome/JSAClaimantsWardtimeseries/Dashboard1
The basics are working as I want, you see the map, you click on one of the coloured areas and a time series chart appears below the map showing the change over time for that area.
I want to add a couple of comparisons to this data, for example I want the time series chart to show a line for the whole coloured area (Somerset) so people can see how one part of it compares to the overall average.
I have the figures as separate rows in the data but of course when the action filter is triggered they get filtered out along with everything else.
If I edit the action filter in the filter shelf for sheet 2, it has the condition tab and I was hoping I could add [ward code] = "E10000027" (the comparison data I want to use) to the formula box so it would also keep the relevant rows of data, but that stops the chart working altogether.
I could achieve it by getting people to choose an area from a parameter drop down but I'd rather let them click on the map so they don't need to know the name of the area they are interested in.
Can this be done?
A lot of people have problems with displaying null values in dates in graphs in Tableau. Tableau automatically joins values that actually exist for specific dates and neglects missing data. I've solved this problem converting my datetime date to a date itself (makedate). Then I right-clicked on the date axis and clicked Format. Clicked "Pane", Special Values -> Text: 0, Marks: Show at Default Value. Next I clicked on Date pane in Columns and made it discrete. This unblocked the possibility to Show Missing Values. I right-clicked on Date axis and chose this option. I clicked on Nulls on the Graph and chose to show them at default values. Finally, I converted Date pane back to Continuous.
Hope this helps someone.
You could try this formula using IFNULL function
IFNULL(MONTH([DATE]),0)
Another function you can use is ZN() instead of IFNULL() which does the same thing as above, except that the default value of zero is baked into the function.
I'm not sure that a formula that returns zero for a date makes sense in most applications though. Sometimes it is better to leave the nulls and then decide how to visualize them. Otherwise, you are masking missing information and replacing it with possibly misleading information.
