I have a JSON file - options.json which looks like this -
{
"option1" : "abc",
"option2" : "xyz"
}
I have saved this file in AEM's DAM.
I want AEM form's dropdown list to be populated using the values from this file.
How do I achieve this?
Please note - entering path of this file in the Items Load Path field doesnt work.
Based on the information you provided I assume that you want to do this in the Adobe product called AEM Forms.
Solution outline:
Create a REST service (could be a simple Servlet) that exposes the contents of the file as Json.
Create a new AEM Forms DataSource and configure your REST service.
Create a Form Data Model.
Configure Form Data Model to use DataSource.
Use Form Data Model in your Form component.
You can find the documentation for this here:
https://helpx.adobe.com/experience-manager/kt/forms/using/creating-datasource-feature-video-use.html

Google will give you more links and examples.

When generating forms with the form module the corresponding yaml files get stored in fileadmin/user_upload.
Now I want to integrate those yaml files into my sitepackage and thus into my CVS. Where is the correct place for them? In the example extension they are stored in Resources/... while I would think they have to go into Configuration/Yaml
And how do I configure the form extension to search them in that place?
While it's basically a matter of taste where exactly one saves his form definitions, I try to separate form configuration and form definitions.
From the official documentation:
[...] the form configuration allows you to define:
which form elements, finishers, and validators are available,
how those objects are pre-configured,
how those objects will be displayed within the frontend and backend.
In contrast, the form definition describes the specific form,
including
all form elements and their corresponding validators,
the order of the form elements within the form, and
the finishers which are fired as soon as the form has been submitted.
Furthermore, it defines the concrete values of each property of the mentioned aspects.
So, for more clarity I save all form configuration in a sitepackage under Configuration/Yaml/ and the form definitions under Resources/Private/Forms, neighbouring the templates.
I wrote a full tutorial how to use custom templates with EXT:form, which also includes the answers to your question.
In short:
Register YAML configuration with TypoScript in your extension root folder as ext_typoscript_setup.txt (as recommended1)
plugin.tx_form.settings.yamlConfigurations {
100 = EXT:my_extension/Configuration/Yaml/CustomFormSetup.yaml
}
module.tx_form.settings.yamlConfigurations {
100 = EXT:my_extension/Configuration/Yaml/CustomFormSetup.yaml
}
CustomFormSetup.yaml – setting up a new storage path
TYPO3:
CMS:
Form:
persistenceManager:
allowedExtensionPaths:
10: EXT:my_extension/Resources/Private/Forms/
allowSaveToExtensionPaths: true
allowDeleteFromExtensionPaths: true
1TypoScript inside an ext_typoscript_setup.txt is automatically loaded in both frontend and backend of your TYPO3 installation directly after installing your extension. This differs from other TypoScript files, which have to be included manually, e.g. as static templates. See official Form Framework documentation.
I'd suggest Resources/Private/Forms for your form definitions. The form extension clarifies how to register additional form definition paths.
I was trying to understand how can we make drop-down values in dialog box easily authorable?
Select lists in dialogs can load their options dynamically from anywhere, so long as they are provided as an array of values in JSON format (from the docs):
[
{
value: "pink",
text: "Pink",
qtip: "Real Pink"
}
]
So one solution would be to:
Create a new template that would allow an editor to add/remove values from a list — make this editable for content authors as per any other content (e.g. using the page properties, or components that you can drag onto that template).
Create a Servlet that will parse those values & output them in the expected JSON.
Register that servlet, e.g. via a path (/bin/selectvalues).
Using the cqinclude xtype to load in your values:
i.e.
<select
type="select"
xtype="selection"
options="/bin/selectvalues"/>
If you are looking for a drop-in solution for this, take a look at http://adobe-consulting-services.github.io/acs-aem-commons/features/generic-lists.html. This supports easily authorable lists of name/value pairs which can be used (without writing additional code) in:
Classic UI Dialogs
Touch UI Dialogs
Touch UI Asset Metadata Editor
For word report generation, I am looking at binding XML to content controls to see if it is any easier than to use Word Interop and hardcode index reference to content controls to assign values to them.
However, I don't really understand how to do it.
My work flow is entering information in Excel and then generate an XML file to have content controls populated by XML, however, what I read is the other way round: Word Control Control Toolkit and descriptions where the XML is populated by user entering information in Word, and then programmer to unzip docx file to retrieve the XML file.
How can I populate content controls with XML?
There are samples on generating Word documents from Word templates, XML and data bound content controls # http://worddocgenerator.codeplex.com/
Set up the mapped content controls in the 'template' docx using the content control toolkit or similar. Do this using a sample XML file containing your Excel data.
Now you have that template document, at run time you can inject your XML file into it (ie replace the custom xml part it contains, with your instance data), in C# or Java or whatever.
When the user opens the document in Word 2007/2010, the information in the custom XML part will automatically be copied into the bound controls, and visible to the user.
Note that content control data binding doesn't easily support repeating data (eg populating table rows) in Word 2007/2010, though there are ways to do it.
I have been attempting to create a form where a user can simply press a button and the form will add a new field for the user to use. I have 2 of these dynamically added field types.
Firstly a field where a user can upload files, by pressing the add button another field is pasted underneath the current field and is ready for use.
I have followed an old guide on how to get this done with a bit of ajax and jQuery.
This guide to be exact: http://www.jeremykendall.net/2009/01/19/dynamically-adding-elements-to-zend-form/
As you can see it's from 2009 and a bit outdated yet it still works under the current Zend Framework version 1.11.11
The problem however arises now that i want an edit / update version of the form. I need to populate it's fields but first of all i need to create enough fields for the data to be stored in. So when there's 3 files that have been uploaded it should create 2 additional fields and place the 3 file names in these fields ready to be edited and updated. Simply using $form->populate($stuff) is not going to work
I just have no idea how to accomplish this and the tutorial on dynamically added fields only goes as far as the addAction and not how to create the editAction under these conditions.
Is there any tutorial out there on how to create and manage forms such as these? I'm sure i am not the only one who's had the idea to builds these kind of forms?
I can add my code if there's a request for it but it's the same as the example from the guide, just a different set of elements in the form.
Adding a small example of it's use.
A user adds an item with 3 files, these files are uploaded along with a filename so in the database it appears like this : File_Id : '1' , File_Name : 'SomeFile' , File_location : 'somewhere/on/my/pc/SomeFile.txt'.
Now the user realizes he forgot a file or wants to delete a file from that list, he goes to the edit page and here i want the form to display the previously added filenames. So if there's 3 files it shows 3 and when there's 2 it shows 2 etc. How do i build a form to dynamically add fields based on the number of uploaded files and then populate them?
Any advice on how to handle this is well appreciated :)
You can make use of the semi-magic setXxx() methods of the form.
Inside the form:
public function setFiles($files) {
foreach ($files as $file) {
$this->addElement(/* add a file element */);
//do other stuff, like decorators to show the file name, etc.
}
}
In your controller:
$files = $model->getFiles();
$form = new Form_EditFiles(array('files' => $files));
By passing an array with key files you will make the form try to call the method named setFiles(), which you have conveniently provided above.
This should push you in the right direction, or so I hope at least.
If I understand you correctly you want to populate file upload fields, which is not possible because of security reasons.
Edit:
You can add Elements inside of the Controller via $form->addElement() (basicly just like the $this->addElement() statements in the Tutorial)
In my project we are using dojo framework in UI. We are having a functionality to exporting the data in the enhanced grid into excel/csv files. In the dojo toolkit, they are binding the id in the textarea but i need those values in the excel/csv file...can any one help in this issue...? if possible pls tell me how to export the enhanced grid data to excel/csv files...
If you are already using the Enhanced Data Grid, you should be able to include the exporter plugin - dojox.grid.enhanced.plugins.exporter.CSVWriter - to get the CSV text.
This will give you access to two main functions exportGrid and exportSelected that will take the contents and export them as CSV text.
Unfortunately that doesn't get them as a separate file (click to download), just the formatted text in a textarea (or whatever).
To get a "click to download CSV function), you could write a servlet/jsp proxy, which would take a POST from your page with the CSV text (from the plugin above) as part of the form and simply copy it back out with the correct headers to make it appear as an attachment.
response.setContentType("text/csv"); response.setHeader("Content-Disposition","attatchment;filename=name.csv")
This would require something server side though.. and at that point, you may want to consider having a servlet simply produce the CSV text directly.
