How to debug ExecuteFunctions for word add-in? - ms-word

I'm implementing a functionality which runs in background(without Taskpanel), where I can POST the word document data to REST API through the ExecuteFunctions. my question here is How can I debug the Function file? I tried printing through the console logs and also tried to debug through F12 and Visual studio tools, but didn't work. I have created word add-in using YO Office generator.

To answer the question as is, simplest way of debugging the functions is through the Web experience (https://onedrive.live.com), where they will print stuff on the console.
You should probably check out this answer though: Run add-in without showing taskpane?
You really can't run background tasks without having a TaskPane. Functions are meant to just plainly execute something and exit. That means; upon clicking the Function button, you can make a request and upload some data, but you can't really keep a connection open and upload periodically after just one click.

Using codemirror to execute code on server

Novice to Codemirror.
I have codemirror running on my server I have it set to Python mode. Can someone please suggest how I go about executing the code and showing the result on the page where I have written the python code
Thanks
Without knowing much about your setup, here's a general idea:
Use the getValue() method to get the code from your CodeMirror instance.
Assuming the code is a run-able Python script, you can either
(1) send the code to your back end with AJAX or a POST request and run it there. Or (2) you could run the Python script in the browser with a library like one discussed here.
If you ran it on the back end, you can send the result of running the code back as text or JSON with your preferred protocol. If you ran it on the browser, you should probably follow the guidelines for the specific library you used.

Get WebdriverIO multi-remote to work with Cucumber BDD

I am able to start multiple browser sessions in a single test using WebDriverIO's multiremote with mocha.
Next I'm trying to get WebDriverIO multiremote work with Cucumber BDD. My feature definition is simply to open a browser session and navigate to a url.
Here's my simple WDIO
Problem - the browser opens up but navigation does not occur. I have tried to enable the debugger and observe node-inspector but hasn't helped. What am I missing? Thanks for all the help.
My goal was to conduct multi-user scenario based testing through BDD. Although I haven't been able to resolve this directly via WebDriverIO I found Chimp (which uses WebDriverIO underneath) has its own flavour of session based automation.
Chimp's multi-browser testing does exactly what I wanted. Problem solved!
I'm able to write scenarios such as this without explicitly switching the user context.
Scenario: Able to browse independently
Given Alice goes to "/features"
And Bob go to "/bugs"
Then Alice sees "10" features
And Bob sees "1" bugs

Visual Foxpro exe file not working

I am beginner in using Visual FoxPro. I am trying to create a simple application which contains a form with a few textboxes. The problem is that the application window does not appear when I run the executable file which I build.
The code for the program is:
PROCEDURE main_app
_SCREEN.Activate
_SCREEN.WindowState = 2
_SCREEN.backcolor = RGB(128, 128, ;
128)
_SCREEN.Caption = ""
_SCREEN.refresh()
SET TALK OFF
SET DELETED ON
SET EXCLUSIVE OFF
CLEAR ALL
CLEAR
CLOSE ALL
DO FORM simpleform LINKED
READ EVENTS
RETURN
*MESSAGEBOX('Msg')
ENDPROC
In the form I have a few textboxes and a button. When the button is clicked then some code is executed. If I run the application from the IDE everything works fine but if I create the executable this does not display any window, still the process appears in the task manager. If I uncomment the MessageBox then this will appear even if I run the exe file. I don't know a way to trace the problem outside the IDE, maybe there is still a library needed that I am not aware.
I am using Visual FoxPro 9.0
Would someone be able to help me out?
If you can provide me with a link to a very simple application exe which uses just one form and finishes when the form is closed I would very much appreciate it.
Thanks in advance
I tried creating a brand new project, new code and new form just as you described. I copied your code and ran, but it never displayed the form.
If this is the main app in your project, you don't need the initial
PROCEDURE main_app
just remove this line as there is nothing CALLING the "Main_App" and thus is never getting called to ultimately call your form.
Just comment it out, save your project and run it... See what you get, it SHOULD work.
** PROCEDURE main_app
The problem was that I did not set the screen visibility to true.

Print page content

I just started playing with google chrome apps. I've searched the internet and haven't found the way to print the content of the windows. Tried using windows.print(), but nothing happened.
As far as I have read, the print() wont work since it is called in the background.html that does not have any content. How can I make the call at the correct place and send the content of the app to the printer?
Thank you in advance!
You're right that this can't be done through the Background page, since it is not rendered. What you'll need to do is inject a "content script" into the page you would like to print. The content script would contain the print command, and probably whatever would trigger the print command.
In a nutshell, "content scripts" are scripts that are injected into the pages a user browses. You can inject pretty much any JavaScript you like, and even inject entire JavaScript libraries like JQuery. More details can be found here:
https://developer.chrome.com/extensions/content_scripts.html
If you decide to use a popup window to trigger the print you can pass a message to the window you would like to print. Message passing is how the different components of an extension (background page, content script, popup) communicate. More info can be found here:
http://developer.chrome.com/extensions/messaging.html
Printing in apps is not yet supported, I believe. See
Issue 131279: async version of window.print()

Handling pop ups using selenium with perl

I want a solution for the following scenario:
In a page I am uploading an xml and while clicking on the upload button I am going to recieve an pop up for confirmation (I am able to detect this), after this again I am recieving an pop up which I am not able to detect (The page is still getting loaded in the browser ). Kindly help me to sort this out .
I have tried with many solutions for this like: get window ids,titles .
Thanks
You can you use -
$sel->get_confirmation()
This retrieves the message of a JavaScript confirmation dialog generated duringthe previous action. By default, the confirm function will return true, having the same effectas manually clicking OK. This can be changed by prior execution of thechooseCancelOnNextConfirmation command. If an confirmation is generatedbut you do not get/verify it, the next Selenium action will fail.
NOTE: under Selenium, JavaScript confirmations will NOT pop up a visibledialog.
NOTE: Selenium does NOT support JavaScript confirmations that aregenerated in a page's onload() event handler. In this case a visibledialog WILL be generated and Selenium will hang until you manually clickOK.
Returns the message of the most recent JavaScript confirmation dialog.
You should always refer to WWW::Selenium - Perl Client while working with perl and RC.
I have found what is the problem #amey ...I am tring to upload an file which is not actually not permitted due to some security issues with firefox... There was actually an work around for this
http://cakebaker.42dh.com/2006/03/29/file-upload-with-selenium/
.....Which will not work with latest Selenium RC with Firefox since firefox have removed the support for enablePrivilege

So it is a mandate to shift to WEBDRIVER it seems.............

Thanks for your support....
my solution was using the function:
$driver->execute_script("Events.invokeEvent('UserDetailPage:UserDetailScreen:UserDetailToolbarButtonSet:UserDetailToolbarButtons_DeleteUserButton_act', true);");
analyzing what the javascript code does when the Accept button was pressed. and executing that code in the function.
