How to access control from the popup fragment by ID - sapui5

I want my text area to be empty after I press OK button.

The text area will be in popup in the fragment. I am expecting the text area to be empty.

If you instantiate your fragment like this:
sap.ui.xmlfragment("WIPworklist", "com.sap.FinalAssestments.view.WorkInProgress", this);
You can access its controls like this:

The better approach would be to use a view model. The model should have a property textAreaValue or something like that.
Then bind that property to your TextArea (<TextArea value="{view>/textAreaValue}" />). If you change the value using code (e.g. this.getView().getModel("view").setProperty("/textAreaValue", "")), it will automatically show the new value in your popup.
And it works both ways: if a user changes the text, it will be automatically updated in the view model, so you can access the new value using this.getView().getModel("view").getProperty("/textAreaValue");.

You almost have it, I think. Just put the
this.byId("WIP").setValue("") line after the if() block. Since you are adding the fragment as a dependent of your view, this.byId("WIP") will find the control with id "WIP" every time you open the WIP fragment and set its value to blank.
You are likely not achieving it now because A. it is not yet a dependent of your view and B. it is only getting fired on the first go-around.

I am trying to set the title of my view dynamically with no success so far.
I am trying something like this:

Here is one approach you can try. After declaring your viewmodel, bind a function to its 'set' method. Within here, check whether the field being set is the page title property on the viewmodel. If it is, find the dom element holding the title text and set its html to the value being 'set':

Whenever that property is changed on the viewmodel, you will now see it reflected on the page. However there is still the issue of setting the value in the UI initially. You can do this in your onShow function which of course happens after the view is rendered and all the dom elements have been created:

viewModel.set("pageTitle", temp);

That will force the 'set' method on the viewmodel to run and the UI should then update.

Initializing input data

Where, and how do I clear out the input date on a view....
E.g. when the data is saved, and I access my page from the menu, the old data is still displayed in the input boxes.
I've tried the onInit() function but that only fires the first time into the view.
The navto call is in the BaseController which calls the defaultTimes page (view/controller).

Let's say the name of the view in which your input field is created is test.js, then whenever you are navigating to the view or navigating from the view, you can use invalidate view like below
sap.ui.getCore().byId("test").invalidate();
this makes the view to be rendered again when you are coming back to the view and onBeforeRendering() is triggered
You can choose one of the following options, and put one of them, after the code to save is executed:
Option 1:

How to enable auto focus on SAPUI5 input suggestion field

I'm currently developing a sapui5 mobile application and am using an sap.m.Input with suggestions bound by a model like this:

When I now click into the input field on a mobile device, kind of a new screen opens with a new input field, which the user has to manually focus again, what seems like a usability flaw to me.
Is there a nice possibility to enable auto focusing the input field on this new screen, so that the user doesn't has to do it again? Or can this screen be disabled at all on mobile devices?
sap.m.input doesn't seem to have a own method for focusing, or at least I'm not finding one - I already tried using jquery's .focus() on the new input field, but without success.
edit: for clarification, the suggestion works troublefree - only the absence of the auto focus on the appearing new screen is what bothers me.

Note 1: The above snippet relies on internal implementation of how the popup works. Use it with caution as there are currently no public APIs to access the corresponding internal controls.
Note 2: I put the word fix in quotes because it seems to be the intended behavior that the user has to click on the second input field explicitly, according to the comment in the source code:
Setting focus to DOM Element, which can open the on screen keyboard on mobile device, doesn't work consistently across devices. Therefore, setting focus to those elements are disabled on mobile devices and the keyboard should be opened by the user explicitly.
That comment is from the module sap.m.Dialog. On a mobile device, when the user clicks on the source input field, a stretched Dialog opens up as a "popup" which has the second input field in its sub header.
Please check the API documentation of sap.m.Input, it has a method focus. You can call:
this.byId("input").focus()
to set the focus into the input field.

I didnĀ“t have the exactly same problem, but It was similiar.
My problem was that I needed focus into suggestion input when the view had been rendered. My solution was to put following code into "hanldeRouteMatched" function:

If you see that suggestion input catch focus, but It lose it after, or It never catched it, try increasing the time in delayedCalls. The needed time depends on your connection speed.

How to identify the ID or value of when the submit button is clicked

I am having trouble identifying the particular value or ID of a submit button after it has been clicked and submitted using AJAX.
If I place the following code as a global function, it properly alerts the value of the button clicked:

However, when I attempt to define the variable, I am unable to use that variable from within the success callback function:

I have also tried placing the code in the submitHandler, but that doesn't work either.

UPDATE: It might help if I provide more information about why I need to know which button is pressed. I have two kinds of submit buttons for each form in a multi-part form. I would like to do different things based on which button was clicked.

The scope of whichbutton is inside of this anonymous function; you can't access it from elsewhere. A quick fix might be to declare whichbutton as a global variable but there's probably very few cases where you should do that. More context as to what it is you're trying to do would help, right now it just looks like you're trying to alert the button text on success after an ajax form submit.

How to handle calling a function without oEvent

I have a CheckBox with a handler attached to the select event. In this function is the code to dynamically populate/ display few fields. If I come on the screen and the data brings in a value which makes the checkbox selected already, then those fields are not displayed (because they become visible only when I select the checkbox).
I want to ensure that if the CheckBox is auto selected, still I should be able to process the logic in the function, which has oEvent as an input parameter. But the issue is that if I call this function from another method, that function does not work as it has many statements like oEvent().getSource() which I do not pass.

If you assign an ID to your checkbox, you can get the checkbox in any function you want as long as it is known in the view. By doing that you won't need the oEvent which is only available when an event on the checkbox is executed.

By that, you can have a pure, decoupled function that can be called from anywhere.
I would suggest a different approach. Use the same property that you have used in your checkbox binding, to determine the visibility of the other fields, i.e. bind the visible property of each relevant field to that property in your model.
If there is additional post-processing required in populating the fields, you can either use expression binding or custom formatter for field-specific processing, or model binding events if you need to do a bit more "staging" work (in which case you would probably store the resultant data in a client model and bind to that for populating your fields).
