Convert String to Date in Tableau using DATEPARSE - date

Trying to convert string "12/30/19 01:40:31" into a short date field in Tableau. I can't figure out the correct way to do the "DATEPARSE" format? Any help?

You should be able to set the field as a Date type, and then use the built-in date formatting option to display it as a short date.
If Tableau is not identifying the field as a date type, right click on the field in the left-hand pane, and select Change Data Type and select Date.
To get the short date format, right click on the field in the left-hand pane, and select Default Properties -> Date Format.
If you need to use DATEPARSE, here is an example:
DATEPARSE('dd-MM-YY', [myDateField])

I guess you don't need a calculated field here.
On your date dimension -> click on the drop down button -> default properties -> date format -> custom type "mm/dd/yy".

change date format in SSRS report dynamically

I am trying in D365 to create a dynamic date format, that is based on the preferences of the user. There is a field "Date, time, and number format" and based on the value of this field, the date format has to be changed. The field on the SSRS report is for some other purposes string, created by some values and one date field, so I would like to ask, if there is any function, that would in a code change the date format based on the user's preferences.
Many thanks for any advice

How to convert a field with 202008 to a date in Tableau

I am trying to convert a field that contains strings such as 202008, 202108 to a date field. I have tried the date() function, clicking on the measure and converting it to a date. I have also tried DATE(LEFT([Month],4)+"-"+RIGHT([Month],2)+"-01") but that will only return the year.
Using Tableau Desktop 2021.1, when I change the data type from String to Date, Tableau translates the strings to 8/1/2020 and 8/1/2021. If you are using an earlier version of Desktop, it is possible that this functionality is not present.
However, if changing the data type isn't working for you, the calculated field code you provided should actually work, you just need to change the date part from Year to Month/Day/Year using the Custom date part option.

Tableau Dashboard Default set to Yesterday by using Date Parameter

I have created daily dashboard which shows the data for single date selected from DATE PARAMETER (with ALL value). Which is OK for me that I can see the data for any date I want.
But the problem is when I open my dashboard it is showing data for date which I selected in date parameter while publishing the Dashboard to Server/Online and Instead of that I want set it default to Yesterday.
i.e. when I open my dashboard first time it should show yesterday's data and also there should option to change date as well to see another date data.
Can we achieve this using DATE PARAMETER (with ALL values)? If it is not possible then is there any other way?
Please Help!
Use a relative date filter instead of a parameter. Just be sure to save and publish the workbook with Yesterday as the relative date value.
1, Create a calculation field d_yesterday, formula is TODAY()-1
2, Create a parameter, data type is Date, value when workbook opens set to d_yesterday
3, use the Date parameter in other calculations fields, or insert parameter into custom SQL query.

Convert Date Value When Using Google Form Date Picker from 5 Digit Format to MM/dd/yyyy format

I selected tomorrow's date (8/21/2014) from the data picker field of a Google Form submission, and the value "41872" is returned in the spreadsheet.
What format is this date format?
I need to convert this date format to the MM/dd/yyyy format using script, as formatting the Date column using the Format menu only updates the rows that are currently available...not the new rows that will be there when new form submissions come in.
How do I make this conversion?
I am not sure, but your issue seems to be very basic. Its about the cell formatting as like we do in Ms Excel.
For Google spreadsheet inorder to format a cell or a range,
1. Select the Range
2. On menu, Go To Format->Number->Date (and then select the required format)
Does this works?
I had the same confusion. All you need to do is just change the format from the menu Format->Number->Date & Time

Casting date in Talend Data Integration

In a data flow from one table to another, I would like to cast a date.
The date leaves the source table as a string in this format: "2009-01-05 00:00:00:000 + 01:00".
I tried to convert this to a date using a tConvertType, but that is not allowed apparently.
My second option is to cast this string to a date using a formula in a tMap component.
At the moment I tried these formulas:
- TalendDate.formatDate("yyyy-MM-dd",row3.rafw_dz_begi);
- TalendDate.formatDate("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss",row3.rafw_dz_begi);
- return TalendDate.formatDate("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss",row3.rafw_dz_begi);
None of these worked. When inserting the result into the target-table (MySQL, InnoDB) a receive the error message that the date is not valid. The format of the target field is a MySQL Date field.
How can I cast the date to the desired format?
Talend offers you a nice way of handling date formats.
You can easily change the date format in the Schema editor tab at the tMap window.
It works for both tMap input and output flows.
I've added a picture for a better illustration.
to cast this string to a date using a formula.... error message that
the date is not valid. The format of the target field is a MySQL Date
field.
What I understand from your question is, you want to insert a date into MySQL Date field.
But the method that you are using, returns the 'String' type.
TalendDate.formatDate(String pattern, Date date); //formats a date into Date/Time string
So in that case, if your field is of 'Date' type.
TalendDate.parseDate("yyyy-MM-dd", TalendDate.formatDate("yyyy-MM-dd",row3.rafw_dz_begi));
