About a couple of weeks ago, I downloaded course files from a course I'm studying online and the minute i opened the folder in vs code, all other vs code projects' terminal font size were affected; became so small they can't be readable. I searched for a solution for a couple of days and I even tried uninstalling vs code then re-installing it, but nothing worked.
I now have to use an external terminal to run any command and it's very frustrating.
If anyone can help I would very much appreciate it.
Thanks in advance
How about going to the ´settings.json´ and adding e.g.
"terminal.integrated.fontSize": 12,
or what ever you like. You can also go to the gear menue (bottom left) select 'settings', search for 'terminal font size' and then enter the size of your choice.
Choose 'Terminal -> New Terminal' from menu bar.
There are things I describe on picture below:
Click on the arrow near name of the shell and choose 'Configure Terminal Settings'.
'Settings' tab will open and you should see two tabs: 'User' and 'Workspace'.
In 'Workspace' scroll to "Terminal › Integrated: Font Size" and there you can change size of your font. The same setting is also available in 'User' tab, but in my case changing in 'Workspace' helped.
I just run into the same problem and tried all of the above. If this is the case for you than you might see if the font family has changed or is different. This can be found in the settings as mentioned above. I changed it to the 'Times New Roman' and it worked great. I hope this helps.

I am currently setting up VS Code on a new computer and want to maintain all the same configuration, addons etc that I had on my previous computer. I was able to copy all of the settings, fonts, themes I like, etc; however for some reason I can't figure out how to change the size of the Tab arrow character for whitespace.
In my old editor, the Tab arrow spanned two spaces, whereas on my new computer, the tab arrow only spans one space.
I've been looking all over, and tried googling any variation of "change tab character size", "modify tab arrow span" etc that I could think of. I seem to remember changing the arrow size at some years ago, which is how I got it in my old editor, but I've totally forgotten, and can't find the setting anywhere, neither searching in the VS Code settings, nor on google like I mentioned; the only things that turn up are for changing tab indent size from 2, to 4 spaces etc.
Here are some screenshots of what I mean, from the new VS Code editor and from the one on my older computer:
Current tab arrow size in VS Code:
Old tab arrows size (what I want in my new editor):
This is driving me crazy, and I'm sure it's a simple setting somewhere that I'm missing. Any help would be appreciated!
Edit: In case it is relevant, I'm using JetBrains Mono as my font, and its the same version of the font as from my old computer as well, I copied it over and installed it on the new PC.
To my shock, the issue resolved itself after rebooting my PC. Once again it would seem that the tried and true "have you tried turning it off and on again" continues to ring true in many cases.
The only explanation I can think of is that perhaps some of the font symbols for whitespace characters weren't fully updated for some reason after installing the JetBrains Mono font, which I had installed earlier the same day, and after rebooting my PC I guess all the characters were fully updated/refreshed, and now the longer arrow is displayed for the tabs; I guess this also means that there is no arrow resizing per se, and the arrow symbol for the tab is simply the font symbol.
In any case, I figured I should write this update as an answer in case something like this happens to anyone else in the future.
When I right click in the editor, vs code executes whatever menu item the cursor happens to be over. It happens far too fast for me to make my actual choice known.
I have already spent 30 minutes trying to find a solution. If you search for "right click" in the Command Palette, you are told there are no matches. You don't get any hits in the docs, either. Please advise. Thank you.
It has been reported that the situation you mentioned is a bug in the repository on GitHub. It is reported that Visual Studio Code works fine when zoom is disabled.
You can update the following setting to override this behavior:
"editor.mouseWheelZoom": false
Or you can update the mouseWheelZoom setting from the pop-up window by using the shortcut CTRL + , to go to Settings.
It's crazy, but this is still an issue for Linux users after so many years. Especially, when using a Laptop with touch-pad it makes VSCode frustrating to use. The problem occurs when you use "native" window style (you can tell, because the theme will not be applied to context menus) and have a non-default zoom.
The GitHub issue that #sercan linked to has a few solutions. In order to save you some time, there is basically two things that I found work and make sense:
Set your zoom level to default / 0. In settings.json add: "window.zoomLevel": 0 This works with all window styles, but obviously is not always viable
Change the title bar style from native to custom. In settings.json add: "window.titleBarStyle": "custom" This will change how the title bar but also the context menus look. Setting this, you can zoom in again
For some reason, my vscode is no longer showing any settings in the UI settings pane. I can still open my settings.json, but even with my settings editor set to "workbench.settings.editor": "ui", I still get this:
I'm on macOS Catalina version 10.15.7 and vscode version 1.52.1
Any ideas on what might be causing this? Should I make a backup of my settings files and then reset the settings to default?
I was having this exact same issue recently, so I was a little disappointed when there were no solutions. I did not have my settings editor set to "workbench.settings.editor": "ui",as you had, so I tried doing that, but after restarting vscode it didn't appear to do anything.
I've been working in the same folder for a while now, so I tried toggling to a different folder to see if somehow that would kickstart vscode into displaying the settings pane. That did not work, but when I toggled back to the folder that I was originally in, the settings pane was now populating with the normal settings for User and Workspace.
A little bit more troubleshooting and it seems like if I have the settings pane already open in the workspace when the workspace loads (either by toggling to a new folder or by restarting vscode), I can see the settings, but if the settings pane is not already open in a workspace and I try to open it, I get a blank page. I also noticed that the settings pane that appears when you load a fresh workspace is stuck on one tab (ie the settings don't change if you toggle between User and Workspace), but if I close and reopen the tab (not the whole workspace), it works as expected. Here's a gif to prove I'm not crazy:
This is me just clicking around to show the behavior I'm describing
I can't embed the picture because of my reputation, but hopefully that shows the behavior I am seeing. I wouldn't be surprised if at the end of the day this is still somehow my fault because of my settings or something, but hopefully this helps someone else.
Small Edit
Just wanted to point out that I acknowledge that this is not an actual solution to the underlying problem, but it's certainly worked well enough for me for now, maybe some one else can chime in with the true solution.
I am using the Dark theme in Eclipse Oxygen. When I hover over a class to view the Javadoc, the links are in blue and very hard to see
I have tried editing the hyperlink color in Preferences -> General -> Appearance -> Colors and Fonts -> Basic -> Hyperlink text color but that didn't work. Under the Java section in Colors and Fonts there is an entry to edit Javadoc background and Javadoc text color, but I see nothing for Javadoc hyperlink color or something like that. I could change the background color as a workaround but that breaks the dark theme and I'd rather not.
The short answer is you can't because it's system dependent.
Among the many other ongoing dark-theme bugs that need to be fixed, the particular bug you've found has been recently reported here as bug 517393. The target fix for this bug is in Eclipse Photon (4.8) Milestone 2.
I've figured out a workaround for this issue at least for Windows.
On Windows, Eclipse's html renderer follows Internet Explorer's option for changing color of webpage. So, if you do not use Internet Explorer or just do not mind such change of all webpage, let's go!
Please note that some desciption below may not be accurate since I do not use an English version of Windows.
Open IE, click GEAR icon at top right corner - choose Internet Optioin - click Color at the bottom - uncheck Use Windows Color - change the color of Visited and Unvisited, and the rest two to suit your need if you use dark theme in Eclipse. Apply the change.
Then click Accessibility (on the right of Font) - check Omit Color - Apply the change.
It's done.
For those who are like me still stuck with an older Eclipse IDE like 4.7.3 (without the fix of the bug mentioned in the first answer) and are using Windows:
The workaround in the previous answer does not work if you have Microsoft Edge installed instead of Internet Explorer. Reason: Microsoft Edge does not let you change the link color. There are Chrome Extension that you can install but this didn't work for me either.
Another solution could be to switch Windows to "High contrast mode". Someone even managed to change the link color for Eclipse. I accidently found this "temporary" workaround:
Start Eclipse
Activate Windows "High contrast mode"
Eclipse wants to be restarted. Say yes.
Deactivate Windows "High contrast mode"
Again, Eclipse wants to be restarted. Again, say yes.
Now the Javadoc popup looks like in "Light" theme!? So links are very easy to see now.
However, that's not a really comfortable workaround: it needs some time and you have to repeat these steps after every reboot. My "favorite workaround" for now, is to select the link text in the Javadoc popup with the mouse, so that the link text is displayed with a more readable background/foreground color combination.
I have Eclipse Juno running on my Fedora 17.
When I hover over a function / variable in Eclipse, a box pops up that contains information about that function with the font size of about 30 or 40 units. I have really searched hard to reduce the font size but I JUST CAN'T.
Why am I having this issue?
I know where font settings are for Eclipse IDE. I've changed and tested all options in there to see which might change the font, but none do.
The answer from #tobias_k in the comments helped me get to the correct settings for the dialog box. I'm reproducing it here for easy reference to anyone.
Preferences -> Appearance -> Colors and Fonts -> Java -> Javadoc Display Font
This should get you where you need to be. Just to clarify, that popup for documentation is considered a dialog box so it checks the dialog box font size for this.
Have u tried to change the gnome theme, or whatever your shell is. I have similar problem in Ubuntu, the problem was in background of this window, it was black, and my font was black too, so nothing can be read but when i change my theme everything is fine now.
