I wanted to install code-server on my Macbook pro, mojave 10.14.6, following instructions provided here https://github.com/cdr/code-server/blob/master/doc/guide.md
While trying to install using given command: curl -fsSL https://code-server.dev/install.sh | sh I get following errors:
macOS v10.14.6 Installing from Homebrew.
brew install code-server Error: No available formula with the name "code-server"

What can be the issue?
brew install code-server should simply work.

I was able to install homebrew with no issues, but when I try to install postgresql I get the below error messages:
➜ ~ brew install postgresql

screen shot of error messages
Any idea how to fix this?
git -C $(brew --repo homebrew/core) checkout master
this will switch to master, then run
brew doctor
this should run without any error.
If there is no error you can install anything with brew install.
ex:
brew install postgresql
My system is OS Mojave 10.14.6, when I try to install postgresql I have this error:
Error: An exception occurred within a child process:
RuntimeError: /usr/local/opt/openssl#1.1 not present or broken
Please reinstall openssl#1.1. Sorry :(
When I try to install openssl#1.1 I have this message:

For compilers to find openssl#1.1 you may need to set:
export LDFLAGS="-L/usr/local/opt/openssl#1.1/lib"
export CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/local/opt/openssl#1.1/include"
For pkg-config to find openssl#1.1 you may need to set:
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH="/usr/local/opt/openssl#1.1/lib/pkgconfig"
And then when I try to force hombrew link openssl, I get this message
Warning: Refusing to link macOS provided/shadowed software: openssl#1.1
If you need to have openssl#1.1 first in your PATH, run:
echo 'export PATH="/usr/local/opt/openssl#1.1/bin:$PATH"' >> ~/.zshrc

export LDFLAGS="-L/usr/local/opt/openssl#1.1/lib"
export CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/local/opt/openssl#1.1/include"
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH="/usr/local/opt/openssl#1.1/lib/pkgconfig"
But I kept on having the message when retrying to intall postgresql
Error: An exception occurred within a child process:
RuntimeError: /usr/local/opt/openssl#1.1 not present or broken
I have read and try everything I found on the net regarding this question. I don't find any solution, any help would be very useful thanks!
UPDATE:
I got homebrew from this command :
/bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/HEAD/install.sh)"
and The pg version in my rails gemfile is
gem "pg", "1.3.5"
but I just tried brew install pg,
and bundle install fails also
UPDATE 2
when trying to
brew reinstall openssl
openssl#3 is installed and I get this message:
openssl#3 is keg-only, which means it was not symlinked into /usr/local,
because macOS provides LibreSSL.
and then when I try to
brew install postgresql
I have the same error:
Error: An exception occurred within a child process:
RuntimeError: /usr/local/opt/openssl#1.1 not present or broken
Please reinstall openssl#1.1.
I am having this same issue and did much of what cecileRx did as well to no avail. I am getting this issue as part of the 'brew install px4-sim-jmavsim' step in this PX4-Autopilot setup.
https://docs.px4.io/master/en/dev_setup/dev_env_mac.html
UPDATE: I think I got around this by uninstalling openssl and then installing openssl#1.1
brew uninstall openssl
brew install openssl#1.1
Running those two commands resolved the errors I was getting that matched those described in the questions.
I've been trying to run the Rust Diesel crate on my Macbook M1 and it doesn't work. The final part of the compilation gets broken by the following error:
= note: ld: warning: ignoring file /usr/local/Cellar/libpq/14.1/lib/libpq.dylib, building for macOS-arm64 but attempting to link with file built for macOS-x86_64

libpq is keg-only, which means it was not symlinked into /usr/local,
because conflicts with postgres formula.
If you need to have libpq first in your PATH, run:
echo 'export PATH="/usr/local/opt/libpq/bin:$PATH"' >> ~/.zshrc
For compilers to find libpq you may need to set:
export LDFLAGS="-L/usr/local/opt/libpq/lib"
export CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/local/opt/libpq/include"
I've tried installing with the following command:
RUSTFLAGS='-L /usr/local/Cellar/libpq/14.1/lib' cargo install diesel_cli --no-default-features --features postgres --force
But I still get the same error. Will it just be easier to wipe the whole thing and start again and if so how would I do this? Other people on the internet using the M1 seem to be able to get round the problem with a simple brew install libpq. Never had any issues with my previous intel mac. My ~/.cargo/config.toml has the following configuration:
[target.aarch64-apple-darwin]
rustflags = '-L /usr/local/Cellar/libpq/14.1/lib -L /opt/homebrew/lib'
Surprisingly this worked
brew install postgresql libpq
cargo clean
cargo build
cargo install diesel_cli --no-default-features --features postgres
I think it had to do with installing diesel-cli before installing the necessary dependencies. Cleaning the cargo dependencies and reinstalling worked for me
on my M1 mac, I installed the postgresql client and library with brew:
brew install postgresql libpq
and attempted to install diesel_cli again, this time it worked fine:
cargo install diesel_cli --no-default-features --features postgres
for some reason, simply installing libpq was not enough to install diesel_cli, i had to install the postgres library and the client.
Encountered a similar problem, and the issue was coming from my brew config (I restored my filesystem from my mac Intel) :
❯ brew config
...
macOS: 12.6-x86_64
...
Therefore, brew was downloading packages built for intel processors. I uninstalled and reinstalled brew following their website and now brew config is correct:
❯ brew config
...
macOS: 12.6-arm64
...
Hope this helps!
I have a Mac M1 and installed both postgresql and libpq with brew
I eventually succeeded in installing diesel_cli with these lines in my ~/.cargo/config.toml file
[target.aarch64-apple-darwin]
rustflags = '-L /opt/homebrew/opt/libpq/lib -L /opt/homebrew/lib'

I am a newbie in mongo db and trying to install in my Mac Big Sur OS. It is a public beta OS.
While install the Mongo DB, I am getting the below error:
Error: An exception occurred within a child process:
NoMethodError: undefined method 'path' for nil:NilClass
Did you mean paths?
I have the latest Xcode installed. The steps I followed are from Official MongoDB documentation url.
Please help if there is a solution.
My case wasn't with installing MongoDB, but had the same problem when installing Vault using Homebrew.
After running brew doctor, my problem was with outdated Command Line Tools.
I followed the instruction shown in the error message.
However, the first solution didn't updated my command line tools.
$ softwareupdate --all --install --force
So I followed the second solution, and was able to install Vault successfully.
$ sudo rm -rf /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools
$ sudo xcode-select --install
I'm relatively new to MongoDB and am trying to install MongoDB on my Mac with Homebrew, but I'm getting the following error:
Error: No available formula with the name "mongodb"

I ran

Then

Formula mongodb has been removed from homebrew-core. Check pr-43770 from homebrew-core
To our users: if you came here because mongodb stopped working for you, we have removed it from the Homebrew core formulas since it was migrated to a non open-source license.
Fortunately, the team of mongodb is maintaining a custom Homebrew tap. You can uninstall the old mongodb and reinstall the new one from the new tap.
# If you still have the old mongodb installed from homebrew-core
brew services stop mongodb
brew uninstall homebrew/core/mongodb
# Use the migrated distribution from custom tap
brew tap mongodb/brew
brew install mongodb-community
brew services start mongodb-community
Check mongodb/homebrew-brew for more info.
With regards to macOS Big Sur and Homebrew the mongodb documentation states: https://docs.mongodb.com/manual/tutorial/install-mongodb-on-os-x/
You should install MongoDB 4.4 Community Edition which supports macOS 10.13 or later, Therefor these steps will be helpful.
SOLUTION 1:
If you have previously installed an older version of the formula, you may encounter a ChecksumMismatchError to fix that:
Remove the downloaded .tgz archive.
brew untap mongodb/brew && brew tap mongodb/brew
Retap the formula.
brew install mongodb-community#4.4
SOLUTION 2:
If you haven't installed any version of the formula.
1, Install the Xcode command-line tools and the Homebrew from https://brew.sh/#install
xcode-select --install
2, Tap the MongoDB Homebrew Tap:
brew tap mongodb/brew
3, Verify installation prerequisites in the macOS Terminal:
brew tap | grep mongodb
4, install MongoDB
brew install mongodb-community#4.4
Note: The installation includes:
• The mongod server,
• The mongos sharded cluster query router,
• The mongo shell
refer to this screenshot:
Finally to run MongoDB (i.e. the mongod process) as a macOS service, issue the following:
brew services start mongodb-community#4.4
screenshot:
first install mongodb
brew tap mongodb/brew
Secondly install using this command. mangodb successfully installed
brew install mongodb-community#4.0
You will get the output
==> CaveatsTo have launchd start mongodb/brew/mongodb-community now and restart at login:
brew services start mongodb/brew/mongodb-community
Or, if you don't want/need a background service you can just run:
mongod --config /usr/local/etc/mongod.conf

Try this code in your terminal:
/usr/bin/ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)"

In MacOs Catalina doesn't work properly for me.
After the installation (https://zellwk.com/blog/install-mongodb/) i had to add permission to "/tmp/mongodb-27017.sock"
sudo chown -R `id -un` /tmp/mongodb-27017.sock
and the command "mongod" seems to ignore the config file (mongod.conf) in "/usr/local/etc" so i have to always launch it with the dbpath argument
mongod --dbpath /usr/local/var/mongodb
even if the same path is specified in the config file.
Also using "mongod" with configuration file doesn't work for me
mongod -f /usr/local/etc/mongod.conf
or
mongod --config /usr/local/etc/mongod.conf
I solved all these issues starting the mongodb via brew services. That worked well without issues and takes the parameters from the right configuration file.
brew services run mongodb-community
Just go for
brew tap mongodb/brew
Homebrew at times won’t get installed in max while the OS is updated , like recently Max OS Ventura - it’s not supported , we can quickly install Mongo DB without homebrew just by using some commands in terminal , checkout the details here : https://medium.com/#pratheushcmohan/install-mongodb-in-mac-without-using-home-brew-23b2556ff930
