I've been tasked with updating several zookeeper clusters. We are currently running 3.4.6, and I'm wondering if I can go directly to 3.6.1, or if I have to upgrade to a 3.5.x version first, then on to 3.6.1.
I've found https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/ZOOKEEPER/Upgrade+FAQ, which talks mostly about upgrading to 3.5.5. https://zookeeper.apache.org/doc/r3.5.3-beta/zookeeperReconfig.html#ch_reconfig_upgrade talks about upgrading to 3.5.0.
Has anyone else out there done this? I'm aware of the snapshot.0 issue.

I have been tried to upgrade from 3.4.6 directly to 3.6.1, it works, just when upgrading old Leader node it shows won't find snapshot, all you need to do is to cleanup data storage(make a backup first), then restart the node.
so for the steps, you have A,B,C three nodes A with myid=11, B with myid=12, C with myid=13, then you have a A:11, B:12, C:13(Leader) Cluster.
upgrade A and B to 3.6.1 directly, watch there status and check if they are synced with C Leader.
stop C node, and B node should become Leader as it has the second biggest ID, after B node become Leader and A node still the follower, upgrade your C node to 3.6.1, and if there's any error, clean the data storage then restart.

I am creating shovel plugin in rabbit mq, that is working fine with one pod, However, We are running on Kubernetes cluster with multiple pods and in case of pod restart, it is creating multiple instance of shovel on each pod independently, which is causing duplicate message replication on destination.
Detail steps are below
We are deploying rabbit mq on Kubernetes cluster using helm chart.
After that we are creating shovel using Rabbit MQ Management UI. Once we are creating it from UI, shovels are working fine and not replicating data multiple time on destination.
When any pod get restarted, it create separate shovel instance. That start causing issue of duplicate message replication on destination from different shovel instance.
When we saw shovel status on Rabbit MQ UI then we found that, there are multiple instance of same shovel running on each pod.
When we start shovel from Rabbit MQ UI manually, then it will resolved this issue and only once instance will be visible in UI.
So problem which we concluded that, in case of pod failure/restart, shovel is not able to sync with other node/pod, if any other shovel is already running on node/pod. Since we are able to solve this issue be restarting of shovel form UI, but this not a valid approach for production.
This issue we are not getting in case of queue and exchange.
Can anyone help us here to resolve this issue.

We have a cluster of 3 nodes, 2 of them are offline (missing) and I cannot get them to rejoin the cluster automatically only the master is Online.
Usually, you can use innodb admin:
var cluster = dba.getCluster();
but I cannot use the cluster instance because the metadata is not up to date. But I cannot upgrade the meta data because the missing members are required to be online to use dba.upgradeMetadata(). (Catch 22)
I tried to dissolve the cluster by using:
var cluster = dba.rebootClusterFromCompleteOutage();
cluster.dissolve({force:true});
but this requires the metadata to be updated as well.
Question is, how do I dissolve the cluster completely or upgrade the metadata so that I can use the cluster. methods.
This "chicken-egg" issue was fixed in MySQL Shell 8.0.20. dba.rebootClusterFromCompleteOutage() is now allowed in such situation:

If you have a cluster where each node upgrades to the latest version of mysql and the cluster isn't fully operational and you need to update your metadata for mysqlsh, you'll need to use an older version of mysqlsh for example, https://downloads.mysql.com/archives/shell/ to get the cluster back up and running. Once it is up and running you can use the dba.upgrademetadata on the R/W node - make sure you update all of your routers or they will lose connection.
We have a fairly large kubernetes deployment on GKE, and we wanted to make our life a little easier by enabling auto-upgrades. The documentation on the topic tells you how to enable it, but not how it actually works.
We enabled the feature on a test cluster, but no nodes were ever upgraded (although the UI kept nagging us that "upgrades are available").
The docs say it would be updated to the "latest stable" version and that it occurs "at regular intervals at the discretion of the GKE team" - both of which is not terribly helpful.
The UI always says: "Next auto-upgrade: Not scheduled"
Has someone used this feature in production and can shed some light on what it'll actually do?
What I did:
I enabled the feature on the nodepools (not the cluster itself)
I set up a maintenance window
Cluster version was 1.11.7-gke.3
Nodepools had version 1.11.5-gke.X
The newest available version was 1.11.7-gke.6
What I expected:
The nodepool would be updated to either 1.11.7-gke.3 (the default cluster version) or 1.11.7-gke.6 (the most recent version)
The update would happen in the next maintenance window
The update would otherwise work like a "manual" update
What actually happened:
Nothing
The nodepools remained on 1.11.5-gke.X for more than a week

Is the nodepool version supposed to update?
If so, at what time?
If so, to what version?
I'll finally answer this myself. The auto-upgrade does work, though it took several days to a week until the version was upgraded.
There is no indication of the planned upgrade date, or any feedback other than the version updating.
It will upgrade to the current master version of the cluster.
Addition: It still doesn't work reliably, and still no way to debug if it doesn't. One information I got was that the mechanism does not work if you initially provided a specific version for the node pool. As it is not possible to deduce the inner workings of the autoupdates, we had to resort to manually checking the status again.
I wanted to share two other possibilities as to why a node-pool may not be auto-upgrading or scheduled to upgrade.
One of our projects was having the similar issue where the master version had auto-upgraded to 1.14.10-gke.27 but our node-pool stayed stuck at 1.14.10-gke.24 for over a month.
Reaching a node quota
The node-pool upgrade might be failing due to a node quota (although I'm not sure the web console would say Next auto-upgrade: Not scheduled). From the node upgrades documentation, it suggests we can run the following to view any failed upgrade operations:

Automatic node upgrades are for minor+ versions only
After exhausting my troubleshooting steps, I reached out GCP Support and opened a case (Case 23113272 for anyone working at Google). They told me the following:
Automatic node upgrade:
The node version could not necessary upgrade automatically, let me explain, exists three upgrades in a node: Minor versions (1.X), Patch releases (1.X.Y) and Security updates and bug fixes (1.X.Y-gke.N), please take a look at this documentation [2] the automatic node upgrade works from a minor version and in your case the upgrade was a security update that can't upgrade automatically.
I responded back and they confirmed that automatic node upgrades will only happen for minor versions and above. I have requested that they submit a request to update their documentation because (at the time of this response) it is not outlined anywhere in their node auto-upgrade documentation.
This feature replaces the VMs (Kubernetes nodes) in your node pool running the "old" Kubernetes version with VMs running the "new" version.
The node pool "upgrade" operation is done in a rolling fashion: It's not like GKE deletes all your VMs and recreates them simultaneously (except when you have only 1 node in your cluster). By default, the nodes are replaced with newer nodes one-by-one (although this might change).
GKE internally uses mostly the features of managed instance groups to manage operations on node pools.
You can find documentation on how to schedule node upgrades by specifying certain "maintenance windows" so you are impacted minimally. (This article also gives a bit more insights on how upgrades happen.)
That said, you can disable auto-upgrades and upgrade your cluster manually (although this is not recommended). Some GKE users have thousands of nodes, therefore for them, upgrading VMs one-by-one are not feasible.
For that GKE offers an option that lets you choose "how many nodes are upgraded at a time":

--concurrent-node-count=CONCURRENT_NODE_COUNT
Documentation of this flag says:
The number of nodes to upgrade concurrently. Valid values are [1, 20]. It is a recommended best practice to set this value to no higher than 3% of your cluster size.'
I have a Zookeeper ensemble I'd like to upgrade from 3.3.X to 3.4.X branch. Can this be done on a live cluster? Requires downtime? Are there any instructions to be found on this somewhere?

What are the options/process for upgrading ZooKeeper?
There are two primary ways of doing this; 1) full restart or 2) rolling restart.
In the full restart case you can stage your updated code/configuration/etc..., stop all of the servers in the ensemble, switch code/configuration, and restart the ZooKeeper ensemble. If you do this programmatically (scripts typically, ie not by hand) the restart can be done on order of seconds. As a result the clients will lose connectivity to the ZooKeeper cluster during this time, however it looks to the clients just like a network partition. All existing client sessions are maintained and re-established as soon as the ZooKeeper ensemble comes back up. Obviously one drawback to this approach is that if you encounter any issues (it's always a good idea to test/stage these changes on a test harness) the cluster may be down for longer than expected.
The second option, preferable for many users, is to do a "rolling restart". In this case you upgrade one server in the ZooKeeper ensemble at a time; bring down the server, upgrade the code/configuration/etc..., then restart the server. The server will automatically rejoin the quorum, update it's internal state with the current ZK leader, and begin serving client sessions. As a result of doing a rolling restart, rather than a full restart, the administrator can monitor the ensemble as the upgrade progresses, perhaps rolling back if any issues are encountered

I'm using mesosphere on 3 host over Ubuntu 14.04 as follow:
one with mesos master
two with mesos slave
All work fine, but after restart all physical hosts all scheduled job was lost. It's normal? I'm expected that zookeeper will store the current jobs, then when the system will need restart it, all jobs will be rescheduled after the master boot.

I'm using marathon and mesos on a same node, and I'm run marathon with flag --zk
With marathon's --zk and --ha enabled, Marathon should be storing its state in ZK and recovering it on restart, as long as Mesos allows it to reregister with the same framework ID.
However, you'll also need to enable the Mesos registry (even for a single master), to ensure that Mesos persists information about what frameworkIds are registered in the event of master failover. This can be accomplished by setting the --registry=replicated_log (default), --quorum=1 (since you only have 1 master), and --work_dir=/path/to/registry (where to store the state).

Note that if the operating system on the slave is rebooted, all
executors and tasks running on the host are killed and are not
automatically restarted when the host comes back up.
So all frameworks on Mesos will be killed after reboot. One way to restart the frameworks is to run all frameworks on Marathon, which will manage other frameworks and restart them in need.
However, then you need to auto-restart Marathon when it's killed. In the digitialocean link you mentioned, the Marathon is installed with script in init.d, so it can be restarted after rebooted. Otherwise, if you installed the Marathon via source code, you can use tools like supervisord to monitor Marathon.
