SQL Developer and DB2 errors - db2

I'd like to use SQL Developer with DB2, I was able to connect and I canned execute my queries, but when I have an error, I cannot know witch error is. SQL Developer shown me only the error code, not the message. There is the way to know the error I have?
EDIT:
For example, launching this query:
Select * from WrongTable
other programs says:
ERROR[42704][IBM][DB2/NT64] SQL0204N "USERNAME.WRONGTABLE" รจ un nome non definito
sqldeveloper limits its report to the error nr only:
Errore alla riga del comando : 1 colonna : 1
Report errori -
Errore SQL: DB2 SQL Error: SQLCODE=-204, SQLSTATE=42704, SQLERRMC=USERNAME.WRONGTABLE, DRIVER=4.19.49
Thank you.

The URL syntax for connecting to Db2 with type-4 jdbc drivers is documented here.
The property that controls how much information is returned with getMessage() is called retrieveMessagesFromServerOnGetMessage, and its default value is disabled ( false , 0 ). Set it to value 1 (or YES, or true )to enable more details on errors.
You can append many properties after the database name in the Database field, on the Oracle SQL-Developer connection properties. Express each property in the form x=y , each x=y pair is separated by a semi-colon and the final one is terminated by a semi-colon, and the first property is prefixed by colon immediately after the database name.
For example, suppose the database name is sample and I wanted three additional properties, the I would put this in the Database field in Oracle-SQL-developer:
sample:useJDBC4ColumnNameAndLabelSemantics=No;securityMechanism=11;retrieveMessagesFromServerOnGetMessage=1;
If value 1 does not give the expected result, use value YES although they should be equivalent. Remember to SAVE the setting change, disconnect from the database, reconnect , before retrying your queries to assess the change.
Many other properties are available, see many related pages in the documentation , some properties are common to all target Db2 platforms, other properties are specific to Db2-LUW, or Db2-Z/OS, or Informix etc, so read the docs carefully. Some properties can be set by code after the connection is already established.

Lesson 3 for MSDN error SQL Server Data Tools

i'm currently following this link and performing the steps
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms170625.aspx
however, after importing in the Transact-SQL query, it tells me that
"Could not create a list of fields for the query. Verify that you connect to the data source and that your query syntax is correct. Query (7,24) Parser: The syntax for 'sp' is incorrect"
What could be the problem? I have tested connection of the database and it is connected. (and yes, the table exists in the database)

What is the best way to decipher a DB2 -302 error from Java?

I am getting this error running an insert query for a single record:
DB2 SQL Error: SQLCODE=-302, SQLSTATE=22001, SQLERRMC=null,
DRIVER=3.62.56
Exception: org.springframework.dao.DataIntegrityViolationException
I looked this up on IBM's help site, but there being no parameter index, I am stuck. The SQL state also seems to specify it is other than a value being too big.
The format of the query is INSERT INTO [[TABLE_NAME]] VALUES (?,?,?,...) using Spring's JdbcTemplate.update(String sql, Object... params).
This being for work, I cannot post schema nor query. I am looking for general advice into debugging this issue. I already know using Arrays.toString(Object[]) does not print out in SQL format.
To find the explanation for SQLCODE -302 in the manual you need to search for SQL0302N (the general rule for DB2 SQLCODE values is this: "SQL" plus four digits, padded if necessary with zeros on the left, plus "N" for "negative" because -302 is a negative number).
If you have the DB2 command line processor installed, you can also use it to look up error codes:
db2 ? sql302
which would produce something like this:
SQL0302N The value of a host variable in the EXECUTE or OPEN
statement
is out of range for its corresponding use.
Explanation:
The value of an input host variable was found to be out of range for
its use in the SELECT, VALUES, or prepared statement.
In other words, one of the bind variables in your INSERT is too large for the target column. You'll need to compare the table column definitions with the actual values you're trying to insert.
In addition to mustaccio's answer you can also get the info from sql with SYSPROC.SQLERRM. Example:
values SYSPROC.SQLERRM ('SQL302', '', '', 'en_US', 0)
SQL0302N The value of a host variable in the EXECUTE or OPEN statement
is out of range for its corresponding use.
Explanation:
...

SqlException: DB2 SQL error: SQLCODE: -302, SQLSTATE: 22001, SQLERRMC: null

What does sqlcode -302 means?
Where do i get the sqlcode definitions?
Please advice
Thanks,
You can find the codes in the DB2 Information Center. Here's a definition of the -302 from the z/OS Information Center:
THE VALUE OF INPUT VARIABLE OR PARAMETER NUMBER position-number IS
INVALID OR TOO LARGE FOR THE TARGET COLUMN OR THE TARGET VALUE
On Linux/Unix/Windows DB2, you'll look under SQL Messages to find your error message. If the code is positive, you'll look for SQLxxxxW, if it's negative, you'll look for SQLxxxxN, where xxxx is the code you're looking up.
To get the definition of the SQL codes, the easiest way is to use db2 cli!
at the unix or dos command prompt, just type
db2 "? SQL302"
this will give you the required explanation of the particular SQL code that you normally see in the java exception or your db2 sql output :)
hope this helped.
As a general point when using a search engine to search for SQL codes make sure you put the sqlcode e.g. -302 in quote marks - like "-302" otherwise the search engine will exclude all search results including the text 302, since the - sign is used to exclude results.

DB2 400 drop column

I want to drop a column called id which is an auto incrementing PK.
The SQL:
alter table "CO88GT"."XGLCTL" drop column id cascade;
And I get:
Error: [SQL0952] Processing of the SQL statement ended. Reason code 10.
SQLState: 57014
ErrorCode: -952
I could be wrong but I think it has something to do with preventing the table from losing data. To get around this issue I need to create a new table without the column and copy the data from the old table into the new table and then replace the old table with the new table.
Info
AS400 is giving you a warning (inquiry message) because of possible data loss, asking you to Cancel or Ignore the requested operation. So, beacuse of this being a interactive request, over JDBC/ODBC you cannot type 'I' to ignore, and AS throws you an ErrorCode: -952 with SQLState: 57014 and Reason code 10.
In the documentation of SQL0952 says:
Message Text: Processing of the SQL statement ended. Reason code &1.
Cause Text: The SQL operation was ended before normal completion. The reason code is &1. Reason codes and their meanings are:
* 1 - An SQLCancel API request has been processed, for example from ODBC.
* 2 - SQL processing was ended by sending an exception.
* 3 - Abnormal termination.
* 4 - Activation group termination.
* 5 - Reclaim activation group or reclaim resources.
* 6 - Process termination.
* 7 - An EXIT function was called.
* 8 - Unhandled exception.
* 9 - A Long Jump was processed.
* 10 - A cancel reply to an inquiry message was received.
* 11 - Open Database File Exit Program (QIBM_QDB_OPEN).
* 0 - Unknown cause.
If you are using JDBC and the SQL error isn't self-explanatory, you can make a JDBC connection with parameter 'errors=full', which will give much more info on the error. For other connection parameters see this.
example connection string:
jdbc:as400://serverName;libraries=*libl;naming=system;errors=full;
With that connection the resulting error would be like this:
Error: [SQL0952] Processing of the SQL statement ended. Reason code 10.
Cause . . . . . : The SQL operation was ended before normal completion.
The reason code is 10.
Reason codes and their meanings are:
1 -- An SQLCancel API request has been processed, for example from ODBC.
2 -- SQL processing was ended by sending an exception.
3 -- Abnormal termination.
4 -- Activation group termination.
5 -- Reclaim activation group or reclaim resources.
6 -- Process termination.
7 -- An EXIT function was called.
8 -- Unhandled exception.
9 -- A Long Jump was processed.
10 -- A cancel reply to an inquiry message was received.
11 -- Open Database File Exit Program (QIBM_QDB_OPEN).
0 -- Unknown cause.
Recovery . . . : If the reason code is 1, a client request was made to cancel SQL processing. For all other reason codes, see previous messages to determine why SQL processing was ended.
SQLState: 57014
ErrorCode: -952
The solution
So finally, if you cannot use STRSQL, another solution is to use iSeries Navigator, to be exact its "Run SQL scripts" (it is usually here --> "%Program Files%\IBM\Client Access\Shared\cwbundbs.exe").
But first of all you have to add a system reply parameter (only once per machine)
ADDRPYLE SEQNBR(1500) MSGID(CPA32B2) RPY('I')
This is done in "green screen". This sets a deafult answer ('I') on CPA32B2 inquiry message. The CPA32B2 is an internal massage id, which is tied to an drop column operation.
(It actually doesn't have to be done in "green screen", use it like CHGJOB command. Example :
cl: ADDRPYLE SEQNBR(1500) MSGID(CPA32B2) RPY('I');
)
Now you can start "Run SQL scripts", the first command to run is:
cl: CHGJOB INQMSGRPY(*SYSRPYL);
this changes the current job parameter INQMSGRPY, to *SYSRPYL. *SYSRPYL causes to look if exists a system reply parameter when an inquiry message should be displayed.
Now you can run your alter which drops the column.
Unfortunately, I don't know how to drop a column, just using JDBC. If someone knows please let me know.

How can I avoid SQL0952 on ALTER TABLE?
Finally I found a solution:
CALL QSYS2.QCMDEXC('ADDRPYLE SEQNBR(1500) MSGID(CPA32B2) RPY(''I'')');
CALL QSYS2.QCMDEXC('CHGJOB INQMSGRPY(*SYSRPYL)');
ALTER TABLE <tablename> DROP COLUMN <column_name>;
There isn't enough information in your error message to be sure, but dropping a primary key column is generally quite risky and the database correctly makes it difficult.
You likely have a foreign key constraint involving that column.
Don't drop the constraint and delete that column unless you're sure you know what you're doing.
According to this post: http://bytes.com/topic/db2/answers/185467-drop-column-table
It is possible to drop a column using STRSQL in the green screen environment. I have access to this and it does work, but a client with a 400 does not have the licensed program to use STRSQL. The issue is that STRSQL will prompt if this is something I really want to do.
To get at the data I'm using SQuirrel SQL client with the JT400 JDBC driver... So I guess with the system insisting on prompting (and actually no way of getting the prompt even without STRSQL) it won't let me do it.
So I guess I'm stuck doing what I'm doing... creating a new table and copying the data and then swapping the tables.
The only way I found to get jdbc to work is to first manually change the default for this message. Then run your update application. In our case we use Liquibase. I could get the java's CommandCall to call ADDRPYLE and CHGJOB INQMSGRPY(*SYSRPYL), but it never actually allowed the alter table * drop column * to not give the follow error:
Error:
10 -- A cancel reply to an inquiry message was received.
Working Command:
CHGMSGD MSGID(CPA32B2) MSGF(QSYS/QCPFMSG) DFT('I')

T-SQL 2000: Four part table name

I don't usually work with linked servers, and so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here.
A query like this will work to a linked foxpro server from sql 2000:
EXEC('Select * from openquery(linkedServer, ''select * from linkedTable'')')
However, from researching on the internet, something like this should also work:
Select * from linkedserver...linkedtable
but I receive this error:
Server: Msg 7313, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Invalid schema or catalog specified for provider 'MSDASQL'.
OLE DB error trace [Non-interface error: Invalid schema or catalog specified for the provider.].
I realize it's supposed to be ServerAlias.Category.Schema.TableName, but if I run sp_ tables _ex on the linked server, for the category for all tables I just get the network path to where the data files are, and the schema is null.
Is this server setup incorrectly? Or is what I'm trying to do not possible?
From MSDN:
Always use fully qualified names when
working with objects on linked
servers. There is no support for
implicit resolution to the dbo owner
name for tables in linked servers
You cannot rely on the implicit schema name resolution of the '..' notation for linked servers. For a FoxPro 'server' you're going to have to use the database and schema as they map to their FoxPro counterparts in the driver you use (I think they map to folder and file name, but I have't use a ISAM file driver in more than 10 years now).
I think you need to be explicit about resources in the linked server part of the query, for example:
EXEC SomeLinkedServer.Database.dbo.SomeStoredProc
In other words just dotting them out doesn't work in this case, you have to be more specific.
It's actually:
ServerAlias.Catalog.Schema.LinkedTable
Catalog is the database that you're querying on the linked server, and catalog is the catalog of the remote table. So a valid four-part name would look lik this
ServerAlias.AdventureWorks.HumanResources.Employee
or
ServerAlias.MyDB.dbo.MyTable
