Inserting data to nested array in mongodb - mongodb

I have a document which looks like this

I need to insert/push some data to tags array in a selected category for a given list_id but I'm getting an error saying
MongoError: Too many positional (i.e. '$') elements found in path
'cards.$.categories.$.tags'
This is the query that I have tried out. What's wrong with this query any idea on how to achieve this?

You can not use multiple $ positional, for your case you can use single positional and arrayFilters,
The filtered positional operator $[<identifier>] identifies the array elements that match the arrayFilters conditions for an update operation,

The positional $ operator cannot be used for queries which traverse

Currently, that's my current document:

Here, there's two nested objects arrays: referencedGeneralPractitioner[{cachedIdentifier[{}]}].
Currently, I'm getting results using this query:

It looks like you need to query it like this:

This is in case you need to find the full document having $and of both values in same element in any of the elements in the nested array , if you need to extract specific element you will need to $filter
if you need to search also based on element in the 1st array level then you need to modify as follow:

mongodb - how to insert a new key/value on each array's element if not present (with mongo query)

I would like to update each elements (object) in an array of a company.

I would like to add a defined date on each object (in contracts) that has no "updatedAt" key.
Here what I tried :

but I got this error :

I think you need to use the filtered position operator:
$ - updates the first matched array element
$[] - updates all the matched elements with a specific condition
The specific condition is mentioned in the arrayFilters key.
db.students.update(

multi - true is to apply the operation on all the matching documents.
Also notice, how the first query parameter is empty, which means the query runs for all documents. I used it based on the second query you wrote but you can also add in an ObjectID query there.

How to query nested arrays in mongoDB to find documents with elements that don't exist

I'm trying to make an aggregation query to find all documents that do not contain a certain element. It needs to be an aggregation because I want to be able to edit the returned documents. Eg. I only want to return some fields and I also want to be able to do a group on eg. the "producer" element.
I already tried practically all I can think of. I tried unwinding the arrays, but then I created even more documents where the element packagingInformation was mission than originally. I tried using $ne, $eq, $gt, $lte,.. to find the documents needed,... but they always return all documents because of the nested array structure.
$ArrayToObject didn't do the trick either for me.
I'm clueless on how to achieve this. The tripple nested array structure beats my imagination.
The only thing that returns me the wanted result is the following query:
db.product.find({

But this doesn't suffice since it's not an aggregate, thus it doens't allow me to continue to do queries with the results. And the $exists doesn't work in aggregates.

The wanted result would be to return all the documents that do not contain the packagingInformation array or the packagingInformation.quantity element.
or even better, to return all documents but with an extra field:
containsPackagingInformation: true/false. With false being the result of all documents that do not contain packagingInformation or packagingInformation.quantity.
$exists DOES WORK in a aggregation.
$exists works the same way it works in .find

Unexpected result when trying to filter fields in mongo db

I have a document structured as follows:

I am trying to filter it so that only starcraft-ii within the games array will show up for all players in the role of player in starcraft-ii. I do the following:

However, this does not match within the games array, and instead returns a 1-element array with world-of-warcraft instead.
What is the appropriate way to filter this array in mongo?
Use $elemMatch in your fields, since the $ will return the first element of the array. So your query should look like this:

Please note the difference from the docs:
"The $ operator projects the array elements based on some condition from the query statement.

MongoDB: Too many positional (i.e. '$') elements found in path

I just upgraded to Mongo 2.6.1 and one update statement that was working before is not returning an error. The update statement is:

When I update an element just one level deep instead of two (i.e. answers.$.name instead of answers.$.comments.$.name), it works fine. If I downgrade my mongo instance below 2.6, it also works fine.
You CAN do this, you just need Mongo 3.6! Instead of redesigning your database, you could use the Array Filters feature in Mongo 3.6, which can be found here:

The beauty of this is that you can bind all matches in an array to a variable, and then reference that variable later. Here is the prime example from the link above:
