Fill field based on column other table - postgresql

I have a really simple problem and I am probably overthinking this way too much. But here it goes:
I want the fields of a column in one of my tables to be filled automatically whenever I make a new record. The value should be the same (UUID) as the specified (UUID) value from a column in another table. These two columns are joined via a foreign key. So far I have tried making a trigger function but with no results so far:

Do I need to specify something as a default in my table? Or am I going about it completely wrong?

You only need to assign project_info.project_id to NEW.project_id in your trigger function. No INSERT is needed. Here is an illustration.
Create or replace function project_id() returns trigger as
$$
begin
if new.project_id is null then
new.project_id :=
(
select pi.project_id
from project_info pi
where pi.project_code = NEW.project_code
);
end if;
return new;
end;
$$ language plpgsql;
You do not need to specify a default value for project_id in your table.

postgresql - trigger function with condition

I'm trying to create a trigger with a condition. Based on the geom length I want the attribute "nom" (= name) to be written in upper case or lower case.
here's what I have:

With this I have a "more than one row returned by a subquery" error
Based on other questions on this forum I tried it using case instead of if and using when in the trigger itself not the function but neither are working

You don't need (or can actually) use SELECT statements to access data from the inserted row.
The part SELECT dummy FROM ligne_ligne returns all rows from that table - not just from the one relevant to the trigger.
As you just want to check the value you just calculated, simply use new.dummy at that point:

How to use json string element in a trigger function without declaring it as a variable

I'm learning about Postgresql - I don't have a specific application in mind, but the general idea is to update one column with json and not worry about the rest.
I have a table with a few columns (id, name, amount, json). I would like to update only the json column and have a trigger update the other columns from the json.
For example, if json was set to {"name" = "fred", "amount" = 100}, the trigger would populate the name and amount columns
so far, this works:

I'm trying to do this without declaring any variables. for example, I've tried these:
IF one.data->'name' IS DISTINCT FROM OLD.name THEN
or
IF one.data->'name'::text IS DISTINCT FROM OLD.name THEN
or
IF ((data->'name') from one) IS DISTINCT FROM OLD.name THEN
but none work.
Making such a trigger may be a horrible idea, and that would be nice to know, but I'm mainly interested figuring out this json stuff :)

Make it a before trigger and instead of an UPDATE manipulate new.

Although the answer provided by #sticky bit goes into the right direction, it doesn't handle type conversion well.
Here's a version that is better at dealing with empty JSON strings:

Please remember that executing multiple UPDATEs inside a trigger function after an original INSERT or UPDATE is going to kill performance.

How to modify Trigger to update a single attribute in PostgreSQL

Here is my sample table.

I am trying to create a function and trigger that would update changeDate attribute with a current date when monthDownload attribute is updated.
The function I have it works with one problem. It updates all records instead of the one that was updated.

Is there a way to have only a row with changed record to have a current date updated.
If you use a before trigger you can write directly to NEW

the other option when you must use an after trigger is to include the primary key in the where clause. It appears that you were trying to do this, but you had a spurious OLD in the query. beause of that the where clause was only looking at the record responsible for the trigger call, and not limiting which records were to be updated.

How to create trigger to insert a sequence of numbers in postgresql; but the insert statement validated before ..?

I have a trigger and a function that inserts a land code, but when it works very well when inserting a row.
But when an insert statement fails to execute for any problems in the expression, the sequence function generates a value before inserting the row, losing the order in the numeration.
There is a way to make a change in the trigger or function, to validate me before the INSERT expression before moving to the sequence function and thereby avoid those jumps of numeration.

You can make incremento.cod_inde DEFERRABLE and INITIALLY DEFERRED:

Trigger insert into another table only if unique value

I have a trigger function that copy row of unique values to another table on update or insert that ALMOST work.
The trigger should only insert a new row to the sample table if the number don't exist in it before. Atm. it insert a new row to the sample table with the value NULL if the number already exist in the table. I dont want it to do anything if maintbl.number = sample.nb_main

I just found out that my select query is probably wrong, if I run SELECT query by itself it return one row 'NULL' but i should not?
