How to host an express page on github using github-pages? - github

I have been trying to post a simple express based website to Github pages. Previously, I was able to post a react based front-end website, using the "homepage", "predeploy", "deploy" and yarn build command. I understand that the react-scripts build takes care of the "process.env.PORT" and is able to get it, how can I replicate a similar process for an express backend. I have been searching the internet and the web for a while, however, the previous questions, I found them to be outdated. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The package.json where react works look like this:
{
"name": "test",
"version": "0.1.0",
"private": true,
"homepage": "https://{github_username}.github.io/{github_repo}/",
"dependencies": {
"#testing-library/jest-dom": "^5.11.4",
"#testing-library/react": "^11.1.0",
"#testing-library/user-event": "^12.1.10",
"gh-pages": "^3.1.0",
"react": "^17.0.1",
"react-dom": "^17.0.1",
"react-scripts": "4.0.1",
"web-vitals": "^0.2.4"
},
"scripts": {
"start": "react-scripts start",
"build": "react-scripts build",
"test": "react-scripts test",
"eject": "react-scripts eject",
"predeploy": "yarn build",
"deploy": "gh-pages -d build"
},
"eslintConfig": {
"extends": [
"react-app",
"react-app/jest"
]
},
"browserslist": {
"production": [
">0.2%",
"not dead",
"not op_mini all"
],
"development": [
"last 1 chrome version",
"last 1 firefox version",
"last 1 safari version"
]
}
}

Github pages doesn't allow you to host dynamic content. gh-pages package creates a new branch and uploads static content, making the illusion that it is hosting a React app dynamically, even though it is running HTML, CSS, and only client JS.

Prettier throwing error in VScode fresh CRA app installation

I installed a fresh install of CRA and also installed eslint and prettier and as well as two packages to make them work smoothly with each other.
Eslint is working and active but prettier is not formatting. I get the following error in the terminal:

ESLint running in terminal but doesn't pick up error

I'm following a tutorial using create-react-app and configuring ESLint.
I already installed ESLint globally, I have a .eslintrc.json file in the root folder and .vscode/settings.json
Current problem:
After configuring, ESLint Output runs normally but didn't pick up any error from my code.
Ex: When I hover over .textContent, it supposed to have a suggestion to use .toHaveTextContent instead:
I tried restarting VSCode, uninstalling ESLint extension and installing it again but still - doesn't work and no error in the Output.
Screenshots & Code:
File tree:
ESLint Output:
.eslintrc.json
{
"plugins": [
"testing-library",
"jest-dom"
],
"extends": [
"react-app",
"react-app/jest",
"plugin:testing-library/react"
]
}
.vscode/settings.json
{
"editor.codeActionsOnSave": {
"source.fixAll": true
},
}
package.json
{
"name": "color-button",
"version": "0.1.0",
"private": true,
"dependencies": {
"#testing-library/jest-dom": "^5.16.4",
"#testing-library/react": "^13.2.0",
"#testing-library/user-event": "^13.5.0",

]
},
"devDependencies": {
"eslint-plugin-jest-dom": "^4.0.1",
"eslint-plugin-testing-library": "^5.5.0"
}
}
It turns out I haven't added "plugin:jest-dom/recommended" rule in my .eslintrc.json file.
That's why it didn't pick up error with jest-dom's syntax :)
Fixed this:
{
"plugins": [
"testing-library",
"jest-dom"
],
"extends": [
"react-app",
"react-app/jest",
"plugin:testing-library/react",
"plugin:jest-dom/recommended"

can anyone help me build it the right way then install it?
thanks
First of all, you need to run the dev server. The scripts section lists available commands you could use for that:
"dev-server": "webpack serve --mode development",
So, you could use the following command line:
npm run dev-server
Then you can launch the host application, the scripts section defines the following entries for that:
"start": "office-addin-debugging start manifest.xml",
"start:desktop": "office-addin-debugging start manifest.xml desktop",
"start:web": "office-addin-debugging start manifest.xml web",
Depending on your choice (whether it is a desktop application or browser) you could choose one to run. For example:
npm run start:desktop
In that case the desktop edition of Excel will be run and the add-in sideloaded.
You can read more about that in the Overview of debugging Office Add-ins article.

Can't run vscode extension app in certain vscode versions

I created a vscode extension app and it works perfectly for some versions of vscode and not for others. So far, I've noticed this issue only in mac, but doesn't mean the same issue might happen for other versions of windows. In mac, when I try my extension app on version 1.40.2 it doesn't seem to work. There is no option to run my app in command palette or context menu. It's missing. But if I try it on version 1.55.2 (Universal) then the extension app appears and runs successfully in context menu and command palette no problem.
When I run it on my mac on version 1.40.2, I get the dialog message Extension is not compatible with Code 1.40.2. Extension requires: ^1.55.0.
Another error I've seen is in the console it come up with this error, which I created a new project by running yo code in that problem vscode version and hit F5 on a fresh template and I still got this error so not sure if it's related or not.
Error: Invalid problemMatcher reference: $ts-webpack-watch
Error: Invalid problemMatcher reference: $tslint-webpack-watch
I've also seen this error too
Why am I having a version compatibility issue? I don't think it's something in my extension.ts file because if I remove all my code ie
'use strict';
import * as vscode from 'vscode';
const ncp = require("copy-paste");
const os = require('os');
let folderOutput: string;
let fileOutput: vscode.Uri;
export function activate(context: vscode.ExtensionContext) {
let disposable = vscode.commands.registerCommand('my-app.startApp', async (uri: vscode.Uri) => {
});
context.subscriptions.push(disposable);
}
then the issue is still there so that eliminates that file from being the issue. I appreciate any help!
