I recently got the M1 MacBook and it automatically updates you to Xcode 12 and I can't use any simulators below iOS 14.Is there a way around this?
Note: Yes I have downloaded the older simulators
I was able to solve the different iOS version problems on the M1. For iOS 14 and up, go to Excluded Architectures in Build Settings and add arm64. For lower iOS versions just clean and build and it should work. Only problem I still run into is my Quick/Nimble framework crashing through the lower iOS versions.
Try clicking on your simulator icon to the right of Run button. At the bottom of popped up list you'll find Download Simulators. Go there and pick the one you want.

At the time of star coding in xcode 5, one thing that i struggle with is, with out any coding error or other reason my all applications got crash whenever i try to reset my "Simulator"!!! Not all the time, but most of the time it crashed. Some times it crashed at the time of quit. No matter with which version of simulator i using (iPhone Retina 3.5 Inch, iPhone Retina 4 Inch with iOS6 or iOS7). It always happen when a complete project (with no error, nothing) built on xcode 4.6 trying to quit after running in xcode 5. Though i keep the "Simulator version" as like in xcode 4.6.
If any one similar with this problem and have solution, please share it with me.
- Thanks a lot in advanced.
The error i am facing is : "Thread 1:signal SIGTERM"
Once you open your project with Xcode5 then all the settings for the views are changed to open with Xcode5, in order to make your project views to open with previous versions of xcode, you need to change the property of the views in file inspector to open with earlier versions default, by doing that your project would open in previous as well as current xcode version.
You could fix it in file inspector to open the views with the previous versions of Xcode if it is selected as Xcode5(Default(5.0)), by following image you could fix your views to open with the earlier versions of the xcode.
When i run the xcode4.5 build of my project on ios7 then keyboard appearing is not ios native keyboard which is native to ios7 but it is showing the previous greyish keyboard but alertview is working fine.
I can move to xcode 5 but there is many UI issue when i switch to xcode 5.
Reset of things are working fine with xcode 4.5
You need to switch to Xcode 5 for the keyboard. There is not other way I know of. Also the users will like your app more if it has the iOS 7 features.
As already mentioned, you need to move to Xcode 5. As you've noticed, the alertViews (and actionSheets) will be iOS-7-ified automatically, though.
I just moved from Xcode 4.1 to 4.5 in order to supporting IOS version 6.0.
I modified launch image as 640x1136 pixels and Base SDK is iOS 6.0.
The problem is when I launch the app it throws SIGABRT on main.m and I added exception breakpoint to get more information but It gave breakpoint 1.1 on the same line of the implementation.
However I have noticed that I got a new warning with Xcode 4.5. Warning and Code are written below. Thanks for help.
Warning:
Semantic Issue: 'CountrySettingsViewController' may not respond to 'initWithTitle'
Code:
CountrySettingViewController *countrySettingView = [[[CountrySettingViewController alloc] initWithTitle:NSLocalizedString(#"selectCountry",#"Select the country title")]retain];
I'm not yet ready to jump to xcode 4.5. - because, then a lot of old projects will have to be recompiled e.t.c.
In order to support iphone 5 display, I simply made everything autoresizing, extra checking for iphone 5 display (to set corresponding image), and added iPhone 5 splash screen image. Compiling from 4.4.1, and on iPhone 5 it will look ok.
I then copy installed application from 5.1. simulator to 6.0 simulator, and launch 6.0 simulator, to check how it will look on iPhone 5 (while I don't yet have any iPhone 5 to test).
Hope that helps.
(I have 4.4.1. sdk and 4.5. sdk installed)
But about that error -
is this "initWithTitle" function declared in .h file also? Or else other classes will not see it (even if it works).
Finally, I sorted out my problem from the following answer in link:
iPhone with iOS 6 and Xcode 4.2 issue
I made an app (already approved in the app store) with xcode 4 and it runs.
Now I would like to modify it for an update. My app has 2 localize (English and Italian) and before I modified it, I removed the second localize. My app is a tab bar app with 3 buttons.
My problem is that I added a new button to the tab bar in the mainWindow (everything is correct also name and nib) but it doesn't appear when I run it on my iphone nor on the simulator (iphone or ipad 3.2, 4.0 or 4.2). It works only on the 4.3 simulator (my iphone is 4.3.3).
If I remove the mainWindow (both), then it works on the iphone and 3.2, 4.0, 4.3 simulator as before I modified it.
What can i do?
Thanks!
When in doubt, try a full clean and rebuild. I've found xCode likes to hold onto old files if they're (mistakenly) marked as unmodified, doing a full clean and rebuild usually fixes this problem
Like #Dan F says, clean and rebuild is a must. Also I've found that putting out releases won't work unless you increase the app version number. If it's currently at 1.0 try changing it to 1.1 (or however you want to version your app) and see if that fixes it.
Otherwise you'll want to play around with your build settings and make sure the versions you're building for are correct. Just a few thoughts...
Can I somehow force a specific hardware device when running my universal app? Whenever I rebuild and test, iPhone 3 fires up and I have to switch over to iPad and rotate the device.
Annoying.
Project > Edit Project Settings > Targeted Device Family > iPad
I finally solved this problem myself.
First, install new version of xCode, which is xCode 4.
Then set project scheme to iphone simulator and run app in xCode several times.
And re-install xCode 3 and the problem will be gone away!
