I am working with my company's project. It uses Java Spring and Jaspersoft ireport 3.7.6 to print report.
I want to modify an exist report form (file jrxml). I want to sum a variable of 2 columns.
Data of these columns like
0/2/3/0
0/2/3/0=5
0/0/0/1
0/0/0/1=1
I have to calculate total of numbers which is behind '='.
I followed the solution in How to sum all values in a column in Jaspersoft iReport Designer?
I created a "GRAND_TOTAL" variable with caculation: "Sum", Class: "java.lang.Integer", resetType:"Report", incrementType:"none"
I added this condition to variableExpression
new Integer(($F{FullQty}.contains("=")) ? (Integer.valueOf($F{FullQty}.split("=")[1]).intValue() + Integer.valueOf($F{EmptyQty}.split("=")[1]).intValue() ) : (0))
When I print report, it shows error :
net.sf.jasperreports.engine.design.JRValidationException: Report design not valid :
1. Variable not found : GRAND_TOTAL
Please help me!
I found the solution! My company's project use dynamic report. Therefore, I have to use fastReportBuilder to add variable in java code.

I have a jasper (master) report embed in a jar. The report is got from a java input stream. The jasper report is made by iReport 3.7.0
In this master report, there are a few sub-reports. At the moment I have to use
Subreport Expression : $P{SUBREPORT_DIR} + "\\SubReport.jasper"
Expression Class : java.lang.String
in the iReport to make it works. It means that I store the subReport.jasper in SUBREPORT_DIR folder.
My question is, how to embed these sub-reports in the jar like the master report? And what should fill in the "Default Value Expression"? (if it is needed)
The closest question and answer so far I have seen is in here
How to load subreport resources with Jasper?
However the answer is not sufficient to me for master report compile. There is an error message saying missing sub-report when compile (and this is why I think the Default Value Expression may be needed?)
Thank you very much!
for example:
i have report and subreport, located in some *.jar file. to invoke subreport i set subreport expression
getClass().getResource("/path/to/my/report/in/a/jar/subreport.jasper").openStream()
and choose subreport expression class java.io.InputStream
it is working!
I've described one possible solution in an answer in another question. Question is not identical, but the solution solves this problem also.
That solution uses spring, but replacing spring specific parts (FileSystemResourceLoader) with Class.getResourceAsStream() should not be too big of a problem.
JasperServer doesn't pass parameter from input control to the report for some unknown reason.
I defined a jrxml report with iReport 4.6 (even tried compatibility mode 4.0.1) using input parameter which works in iReport.
When I deploy the report on jasperserver 4.5 the response I get is "The report is empty".
Same report without parameter works also well.
Naturally I defined and attached input control with single-select query.
The value column and the visible column in input control is the same DB field I use as parameter in jrxml.
Query values as possible input are displayed fine, but when I choose one..."The report is empty"!!.
I tried simplifying the report but my parameter from input control just wont be passed through to render the report.
You must create the parameter in jasperserver too (not only in iReport), with same name.
In JasperServer, edit your report, define "Input controls" with same ids and go thru wizard, it should work now.
If you like to test first select "Always require in emergin window".

Using iReport v4.0.1 with Jasperserver v4.1.0 I'm trying to find a syntax for linking subreports to the main report that lets me test it in iReport then deploy to the server through the repository browser.
The default syntax for sub-reports in iReport for the subreport expression is something like
$P{SUBREPORT_DIR} + "mySubReport.jasper"
When you deploy this from iReport it's smart enough to pick this up and suggest changing it to
"repo:mySubReport.jrxml"
and to then deploy all subreports to the Resources folder of the main report.
That's great, but unfortunately it then edits the file in iReport to save this change which means you can no longer run the report in iReport without manually re-editing all the sub-report expressions - this makes the process of testing and deploying to the server really painful, particularly when there are multiple sub-reports in a report.
I thought I could at least set the value of $P{SUBREPORT} to be "repo:" or "My\local\filepath" so that at least I'd only have one place to change it, but the compiler doesn't like that.
Is there an alternative structure or an expression that will resolve to repo:*.jrxml or My\local\filepath*.jasper correctly depending on where you're running the report from?
The best solution to this is to add an additional parameter like $P{IsOnServer}. Set the default value to true. For your subreport expression use this:
$P{IsOnServer} ? "repo:mySubReport.jrxml" : "/local/path/to/mySubReport.jasper"
When you run the report in iReport, you'll be prompted for the value of IsOnServer. Make it false; the subreport expression will resolve to your local file. On the server, don't define an input control. The users will never be prompted for that parameter (they won't even know it exists), and it will result to the desired 'repo' syntax.
An even better solution would of course be for iReport to handle this automatically... but for now you need to do something like this.
I am using iReport 4.0.2 and I want to show a result in my main report. For example, in my main report we have two columns and I want to get the sum of that two columns, just like this format:
A B sum
10 5 15
Where A is one field in the main report and B is a return value of my subreport.
This works well. But, the key point is that sometimes subreport will not return any value, which is the problem. In this case, the result of sum is like this:
A B sum
10 NULL
As we see here, B is the subreport return value but it's value neither NULL nor 0 . That's why we have that problem.
I try to find how can I get the return value from subreport when the SQL returns no results. I know iReport has a property named 'When No Data', but it doesn't help.
So I want to know, whether we have another way to solve the problem in iReport or using some SQL skills.
I think that in your second example B is actually null but perhaps your text field has the 'Blank When Null' property set. I was able to reproduce your results except for the blank for B.
The real issue is that you can't add or subtract with a null value. JasperReports will just print null. You have to add some logic to provide a default value if one of the variables in the expression is null. For example
$F{MAIN_REPORT_FIELD} - ($V{SUB_RESULT} == null ? 0 : $V{SUB_RESULT})
Unfortunately, this is broken for reports that use Groovy for expressions in JasperReports 4.0.2 (Case 0005138) and will always return null.
You have a few options:
You could upgrade to JasperReports/iReport 4.1.1 which resolves this issue.
You could switch to using Java for expressions.
Depending on your report this will either be painless or it will be a chore. Any fields that don't have the correct Expression Class will have to be fixed up and you'll probably have to be more explicit in any expression that performs operations on non primitive/wrapper types.
if you are doing sum of main field and sub report field in main report then in the sum expression (main report field + (subreportfield==null ? 0 : subreportfield) .
return subreport values to main report variable.
Then do the sum of the main report field and bareport return variable.
Do the same condition as given above.
I have created .jrxml by using iReport tool and have to dynamically set the x and y position of fields in .jrxml file. How should I do that?
I'm afraid thats not directly possible using reports made in iReport, creating the reports in runtime in Java will solve your issue.
