The layout have uses column with Text and Image. The data change based from a list and some text/image are nil. How to make the container takes the same height when only one data is present?
Thanks.
body: Column(
mainAxisAlignment: MainAxisAlignment.start,
crossAxisAlignment: CrossAxisAlignment.stretch,
children: <Widget>[
Container(
color: Colors.red,
child: Column(
children: [
Text(
'This is Container/Column1. It have two widgets, Text and Image. How to make the height of the container same even if one the the widget is removed/null?',
),
Image.asset('assets/index.jpg')
],
),
),
Container(
color: Colors.green,
child: Column(
children: [
Text('This is Container/Column2. This will have additional widgets.'),
SizedBox(
width: double.maxFinite,
child: TextButton(
onPressed: () {},
style: TextButton.styleFrom(
backgroundColor: Colors.white,
),
child: Text('Next Button',
),),),],),),],),
first approach: add a fixed height to your container
Column(
mainAxisAlignment: MainAxisAlignment.start,
crossAxisAlignment: CrossAxisAlignment.stretch,
children: <Widget>[
Container(
// this will give the container a fixed height of 0.4 from the screen height
height: MediaQuery.of(context).size.height * 0.4,
color: Colors.red,
child: Column(
children: [
Text(
'This is Container/Column1. It have two widgets, Text and Image. How to make the height of the container same even if one the the widget is removed/null?',
),
Image.asset('assets/index.jpg')
],
),
),
Container(
color: Colors.green,
child: Column(
children: [
Text('This is Container/Column2. This will have additional widgets.'),
SizedBox(
width: double.maxFinite,
child: TextButton(
onPressed: () {},
style: TextButton.styleFrom(
backgroundColor: Colors.white,
),
child: Text(
'Next Button',
),
),
),
],
),
),
],
),
second approach: if one of them is null add a SizedBox() with your prefered height
Column(
mainAxisAlignment: MainAxisAlignment.start,
crossAxisAlignment: CrossAxisAlignment.stretch,
children: <Widget>[
Container(
height: MediaQuery.of(context).size.height * 0.4,
color: Colors.red,
child: Column(
children: [
someCondition ? Text(
'This is Container/Column1. It have two widgets, Text and Image. How to make the height of the container same even if one the the widget is removed/null?',
) : SizedBox(height : 40)
someCondition ? Image.asset('assets/index.jpg') : SizedBox(height : 40)
],
),
),
Container(
color: Colors.green,
child: Column(
children: [
Text('This is Container/Column2. This will have additional widgets.'),
SizedBox(
width: double.maxFinite,
child: TextButton(
onPressed: () {},
style: TextButton.styleFrom(
backgroundColor: Colors.white,
),
child: Text(
'Next Button',
),
),
),
],
),
),
],
);
One way is to wrap column with Expanded. Second is to have fixed height for contained. If you have this problem with ListView inside another widget and have problems, use shrinkWrap as true inside a ListView. And again for your problem (which person above failed to understand) is that you need or fixed value for height or use Expanded (as much space as possible) or Flexible (least space possible).

here is the UI that I'm trying to build
but this is the output
I tried alignment also , but that also didn't working
but when setting a fixed height this is working fine
but I can't fill this using the fit parameter,
here is the code
Scaffold(
backgroundColor: kDarkTheme,
body: SafeArea(
child: Column(
children: [
const SizedBox(height: 10),
Row(
//code for top button
),
const SizedBox(height: 150),
Stack(
children: [
Center(
child: CircleAvatar(
radius: radiusSize + 5,
backgroundColor: kDarkCounterColor,
child: CircleAvatar(
backgroundColor: kDarkTheme,
radius: radiusSize,
),
),
),
Center(
child: Padding(
padding: const EdgeInsets.only(top: 35),
child: Text(
'39',
style: GoogleFonts.italiana(
fontSize: 120, color: kDarkCounterColor),
),
),
),
],
),
const SizedBox(height: 15),
const Text(
'Tap To Count',
style: TextStyle(
fontFamily: 'Helvatica',
color: Color(0xff656158),
),
),
Expanded(
child: Align(
alignment: Alignment.bottomRight,
child: SvgPicture.asset(
kDarkThemeImage,
)),
)
],
),
))
this is the code
then the first error appears again. how could I fix this?
You are using the Expanded widget on a column that doesn't have a set size. Try adding MainAxisSize attribute to your column, like this:
Column(
mainAxisSize: MainAxisSize.max, // Add this like
children: [
...
This will make your column fit the whole available size on the previous widget (a scaffold for the whole screen). Then the expanded widget will fill the remaining space not used by the other widgets inside the column.
I'm having issues with the layout because of the long text, I've tried using Expanded / Flexible with the text that is causing the issue to fill the space it needs but it's overflowing. I know the question is asked hundred times, but I don't understand where is the mistake. I tried applying to both Expanded / Flexible to all of the Row/Columns individually and too all at the same time (mostly I was trying out layouts to try to fix it), and I still have the issue... I even tried to use the FittedBox with fit: BoxFit.(all of them).
Container(
alignment: Alignment.centerLeft,
child: Column(
children: [
Row(
crossAxisAlignment: CrossAxisAlignment.start,
children: [
Padding(
padding: const EdgeInsets.only(right: 8.0),
child: Icon(Icons.directions_car),
),
Row(
crossAxisAlignment: CrossAxisAlignment.start,
children: [
Column(
crossAxisAlignment: CrossAxisAlignment.start,
children: [
Text("Text 1"),
SizedBox(
height: 4,
),
Text('TEXT 2'),
],
),
SizedBox(
width: 27,
),
Column(
crossAxisAlignment: CrossAxisAlignment.start,
children: [
Text('1 World Way, Los Angeles, CA 90045, USA',
textAlign: TextAlign.left,
),
SizedBox(
height: 4,
),
Text('FLIGHT 3231'),
],
),
],
),
],
),
],
),
);
By my understanding, and do correct me if I'm wrong, applying Expanded / Flexible, Flexible takes only the needed space, and Expanded takes all available space, respecting the flex factor. So most of the time I use the Flexible widget, but this time it is not working.
Thanks in advance for the help!
Try using Expanded widget with flex value set as per the expectation of UI filling.
Sample Code:
Center(
child: Container(
height: 80,
color: Colors.yellow,
child: Row(
mainAxisAlignment: MainAxisAlignment.start,
children: [
Padding(
padding: const EdgeInsets.all(8.0),
child: Icon(Icons.bus_alert),
),
Expanded(
flex: 1,
child: Container(
width: 1,
color: Colors.green,
child: Column(
children: [Text("Text 1"), Text("Text 1")],
),
)),
Expanded(
flex: 3,
child: Container(
color: Colors.blue,
child: Column(
mainAxisAlignment: MainAxisAlignment.spaceAround,
children: [
Text("1 World Way, Los Angeles, CA 90045, USA"),
Text("FLIGHT 3231"),
],
),
))
],
),
))
Note: There is a limitation for the text content using. We need to make sure to set the height according to the expected text length.
You can use Flexible or Expanded Widget You should try to below code :
Card(
shape: RoundedRectangleBorder(
side: BorderSide(
color: Colors.blue,
),
borderRadius: BorderRadius.circular(15.0),
),
margin: EdgeInsets.all(16.0),
child: Container(
padding: EdgeInsets.all(8.0),
alignment: Alignment.centerLeft,
child: Column(
children: [
Row(
crossAxisAlignment: CrossAxisAlignment.start,
children: [
Icon(Icons.directions_car),
SizedBox(
width: 10,
),
Flexible(
child: Column(
crossAxisAlignment: CrossAxisAlignment.start,
children: [
Text("Text 1"),
SizedBox(
height: 4,
),
Text('TEXT 2'),
],
),
),
SizedBox(
width: 27,
),
Flexible(
child: Container(
child: Column(
children: [
Text(
'1 World Way, Los Angeles, CA 90045, USA',
textAlign: TextAlign.left,
),
SizedBox(
height: 4,
),
Text(
'FLIGHT 3231',
textAlign: TextAlign.left,
),
],
),
),
),
],
),
],
),
),
),
Your screen like this :
wrap it by a container with fixed width and then use auto_sized_text. Or you can wrap your Text widget by FittedBox by fixed width. it would do the same approach. Feel free to add maxLine, minFontSize and maxFontSize' in auto_sized_text. Using ExpandedorFlexible` only affects the size of the container when your text length is lower than the given width, and It does not help you in this situation.
If the text is really long, then using Expanded will wrap the text according to the parent widget, thus leading to change in the font size. You might consider using ellipsis.
return Container(
width:300 //give a width of your choice
child: Text('Any long text',
overflow:TextOverflow.ellipsis,
),
);
I want to display a List and beneath it a Persistent footer, a Column with some rows. I use persistentFooterButtons of Scaffold.
The closest to what I get is this:
But I am unable to align the fields to the right.
When I work with Align or Spacer, the Widgets disappear.
The content of persistentFooterButtons.
FittedBox(
child: Column(
children: <Widget>[
FlatButton(
onPressed: () {
Navigator.pushNamed(context, RouteName.BAUSTELLEN);
},
child: Align(
alignment: Alignment.bottomLeft,
child: Text('Bestellen'),
),
),
Row(
children: <Widget>[
Text('$priceInfo '),
MyFutureBuilder(
future: sum,
builder: (context, double sum) {
var mySum = formatDoubleNumber(sum);
return Text('$mySum');
},
),
Container(
width: ImpexStyle.horizontalPadding,
),
],
),
Row(
children: <Widget>[
Text('Ihr Einkaufsrahmen '),
Text(
'$einkaufsrahmen',
style: TextStyle(
color: einkaufsrahmen == 0 ? Colors.red : Colors.black),
),
Container(
width: ImpexStyle.horizontalPadding,
),
],
),
],
),
);
If I put the elements directly to persitentFooterButtons, this is what I get, the text is scattered around and my list is not shown.
and the Code
Scaffold(
body: WarenkorbListe(),
persistentFooterButtons: <Widget>[
// WarenkorbFooter(),
FlatButton(
onPressed: () {
Navigator.pushNamed(context, RouteName.BAUSTELLEN);
},
child: Align(
alignment: Alignment.bottomLeft,
child: Text('Bestellen'),
),
),
Row(
children: <Widget>[
Text('$priceInfo '),
Container(
width: ImpexStyle.horizontalPadding,
),
],
),
Row(
children: <Widget>[
Text('Ihr Einkaufsrahmen '),
Text(
'$einkaufsrahmen',
style: TextStyle(
color: einkaufsrahmen == 0 ? Colors.red : Colors.black),
),
Container(
width: ImpexStyle.horizontalPadding,
),
],
),
],
);
Try to align with your column instead
FittedBox(
child: Column(
crossAxisAlignment: CrossAxisAlignment.end, // this
children: <Widget>[
I'm getting the problem when I add Scrolling functionality in Scaffold, here I have tried SingleChildScrollView, CustomerScrollView, and ListView but it freezes the UI but when I replaced ti Scaffold to LayoutBuilder it works but all the background my UI got black.
I just want to add scrolling functionally to Scaffold.
Widget build(BuildContext context) {
return WillPopScope(
onWillPop: () {
...Some Code...
},
child: Scaffold(
body: Column(
children: <Widget>[
Expanded(
flex: 3,
child: Container(
padding: EdgeInsets.all(15.0),
alignment: Alignment.bottomLeft,
child: Text(
mydata[0][i.toString()],
style: TextStyle(fontSize: 16.0, fontFamily: "Quando"),
),
)),
Expanded(
flex: 6,
child: Container(
child: Column(
mainAxisAlignment: MainAxisAlignment.center,
children: <Widget>[
choiceButton('a'),
choiceButton('b'),
choiceButton('c'),
choiceButton('d'),
],
),
)),
Expanded(
flex: 1,
child: Container(
alignment: Alignment.topCenter,
child: Text(showtimer,
style: TextStyle(
fontSize: 35.0,
fontFamily: "Times New Roman",
fontWeight: FontWeight.w700)),
))
],
),
) // Scaffold
);// WillPopScope
}
Try This
return Scaffold(
resizeToAvoidBottomInset: false,
extendBodyBehindAppBar: false,
backgroundColor: Colors.white,
body: Column(
children: <Widget>[
Expanded(
child: SingleChildScrollView(
child: Container(
height: MediaQuery.of(context).size.height,
child: Column(
mainAxisAlignment: MainAxisAlignment.start,
crossAxisAlignment: CrossAxisAlignment.start,
children: <Widget>[
],
),
),
),
),
]
Don't use Expanded inside any scrolling container unless you wrap it in a fixed bound on its main axis.
Like in your case main axis is vertical and you are using expanded in it, since expanded needs a bound to limit its expansion, you should've remove that expanded thing or just wrap the container in a SizedBox for a specific height.
Than you can wrap the sized box in any scroll container which suits you.
Hope it helps!
In your code, change Column to ListView, and remove the expanded widget. you can use fixed height or MediaQuery.of(context).size.height * (any ratio) to the containers, or just don't specify any container height so it'll take its children's height.
here's the code will look like:
body: ListView(
shrinkWrap: true,
children: <Widget>[
Container(
// height: MediaQuery.of(context).size.height * (any ratio) / fixed height
child: Text(
mydata[0][i.toString()],
style: TextStyle(fontSize: 16.0, fontFamily: "Quando"),
),
),
Container(
child: Column(
mainAxisAlignment: MainAxisAlignment.center,
children: <Widget>[
choiceButton('a'),
choiceButton('b'),
choiceButton('c'),
choiceButton('d'),
],
),
),
Container(
alignment: Alignment.topCenter,
child: Text(showtimer,
style: TextStyle(
fontSize: 35.0,
fontFamily: "Times New Roman",
fontWeight: FontWeight.w700)),
)
],
),
I have a row in Flutter with two widgets. I'm trying to keep the first widget centered in the middle of the screen and the second widget forced to the far right of the screen.
I've tried using Spacer(). This results in the app returning a blank screen.
I've also tried using Expanded. This sends the second widget off the screen completely.
Trying mainAxisAlignment: MainAxisAlignment.spaceBetween did not seem to have any effect.
#override
Widget build(BuildContext context) {
return new Container(
height: MediaQuery.of(context).size.height,
child: SingleChildScrollView(
child: new Column(
crossAxisAlignment: CrossAxisAlignment.center,
mainAxisSize: MainAxisSize.max,
children: <Widget>[
new Container(
child: new GestureDetector(
onTap: () {
FocusScope.of(context).requestFocus(new FocusNode());
},
child: Column(
children: <Widget>[
SizedBox(height: 40.0),
Row(
mainAxisAlignment: MainAxisAlignment.center,
children: <Widget>[
new Column(
children: <Widget>[
new Container(
child: Row(
mainAxisAlignment:MainAxisAlignment.spaceBetween,
children: <Widget>[
Container(),
Container(
child: Text(
'Profile',
textAlign: TextAlign.center,
style: TextStyle(
fontFamily: 'Lato',
color: Colors.white,
fontSize: 50.0,
fontWeight: FontWeight.w700,
),
),
),
Container(
child: IconButton(
icon: Icon(
Icons.settings,
color: Colors.white,
size: 30.0,
),
onPressed: () {
Navigator.push(
context,
MaterialPageRoute(
builder: (context) => OnBoarding()),
);
}),
),
]),
),
),
],
),
],
),
You can use a Row with an Expanded child that contains a Stack. Centre your text with Center and position the icon with Positioned, like so:
[...]
child: Column(
children: <Widget>[
SizedBox(height: 40.0),
Row(
children: <Widget>[
Expanded(
child: Stack(
children: [
Center(
child: Text(...),
),
),
Positioned(
right: 8,
child: IconButton(...),
[...]
Simply just add Spacer() between your main text and the Icon you want to the far right.
For example:
Row(
mainAxisAlignment: MainAxisAlignment.spaceBetween,
children: <Widget>[
IconButton(
icon: Icon(Icons.arrow_back),
onPressed: () {},
),
Text(
'Random test text',
style: TextStyle(color: Colors.white),
),
Spacer(),
IconButton(
icon: Icon(Icons.more_vert_rounded),
color: Colors.white,
onPressed: () {},
),
],
)
I hope this helps you. And I hope the format of the code is readable. Still getting a hang of stackoverflow comments
I did this and worked in my project
child:Row(
**crossAxisAlignment: CrossAxisAlignment.center,
mainAxisAlignment: MainAxisAlignment.end,**
children: [
Icon(MaterialCommunityIcons.comment_outline),
Text("0"),
Icon(Icons.favorite_border),
Text("0"),
],
),
I needed align Icons and Text at right in Row widget
Container(
child: Row(
crossAxisAlignment: CrossAxisAlignment.center,
mainAxisAlignment: MainAxisAlignment.end
children: [ // put your widget list and be happy ]
)
)
enter image description here
Use a row with this following structure:
Row(
mainAxisAlignment: MainAxisAlignment.spaceBetween,
children: <Widget>[
Container(),
Container(
child: Text(
'Profile',
textAlign: TextAlign.center,
style: TextStyle(
fontFamily: 'Lato',
color: Colors.white,
fontSize: 50.0,
fontWeight: FontWeight.w700,
),
),
),
Container(
child: IconButton(
icon: Icon(
Icons.settings,
color: Colors.white,
size: 30.0,
),
),
),
]
),
what will happen is that the spaceBetween property will divide available space equally between the widgets in the row, so I put an empty Container, and this will force the Text widget to be in the middle of the row and the IconButton in the far end as you desire.
I noticed in your code snippet that you have a Column with a single Row which again contains a single Column , you should eliminate this redundancy to optimize your code and make it easier to debug:
Have you tried setting the mainAxisAlignment of the row to mainAxisAlignment.center?
Imo the easiest way to do this is to create a row with 2 children: The first child is an Expanded Row with all your "main" widgets. The second child is your widget which must be aligned to the end.
Row(
children: [
Expanded(
child: Row(
children: [...mainWidgets...],
),
),
...endWidget...
],
),
Note that Expanded is space-greedy. If you use e.g. MainAxisAlignment.center for your Expanded Row, then your children are drawn across the whole avialable width. If this is not to your liking, Id suggest to wrap the Expanded-Row (not Expanded) inside a Container with "constraints: BoxConstraints(maxWidth: 500)". Obviously Expanded shouldnt be Constrained.
Achieve using Expanded & Align like below inside Row:
Row(
mainAxisAlignment: MainAxisAlignment.start,
children: <Widget>[
...some other widgets,
Expanded(
//Expanded will help you to cover remaining space of Row
flex: 1,
child: Align(
//Align with alignment.centerRight property will move the child to righteous inside Expanded
alignment: Alignment.centerRight,
child: const Icon(Icons.arrow_back),
),
),
],
),
Note, the Expanded has to be just inside the Row children: <Widget>[],
othewise suppose you've put the GestureDetector inside Row children: <Widget>[], and inside GestureDetector you have put your Expanded, then it won't
work.
Hope this would help many one.
