In vscode
I want to start typing a page
By pressing a hotkey, all the mini-map, status bar, activity bar & ... disappear so that I can reach the programming correctly.
And with that hotkey I go back to the previous state
Do you know the plugin? Thankful
(Sorry for the bad English!)
VSC has a command: View: Toggle Zen Mode
Default key binding: Ctrl+K Z

I am switching from PyCharm to VS Codium. I want to be able to disable breakpoints by middle mouse click, like in pycharm.
Currently, I can disable a breakpoint by right click at breakpoint and select Disable Breakpoint:
Another way is to disable it in list in Breakpoints view.
But I want to be able to quickly enable/disable it by just clicking with mouse wheel (middle button). Is it possible to configure VS Code this way? Currently, when I middle click on breakpoint, this is ignored, and instead a text from selection clipboard is pasted (it is the default behavior in linux). Visual Studio Code version is 1.66.1.
There is no way at the moment to customize mouse click events. There are a few hardcoded options you can change in the settings, but it is extremely limited like pressing ctrl and the mouse wheel for zoom. As far as I am aware, disabling breakpoints is not among those options.
Check out: https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/issues/3130
I currently use the following workaround.
Remap the middle click to some button.
For wayland several utilities can be used for that. Let's take kbct.
Add such config (edit for your needs)
/etc/kbct/config.yml:
- keyboards: [ "Logitech MX Master" ]
keymap:
btn_middle: f15
Then start kbct.service.
Create the ruler script
Make the file choose_press.sh:
#!/bin/bash
class=$(xdotool getactivewindow getwindowclassname)
if [ "x$class" == "xVSCodium" ]; then
ydotool click 0xC1 # right click
sleep 0.2
ydotool key 107:1 107:0 28:1 28:0 # End, Enter
else
ydotool click 0xC2 # middle click
fi
Do not forget to add executable permissions.
Bind shortcut to the script
To assign a command to shortcut in KDE, go to System Settings -> Shortcuts -> Custom Shortcuts, right click, choose New -> Global Shortcut -> Command/URL. Go to Action tab and fill in the command. In this case it will be the path to choose_press.sh. Note: do not use ~ there.
And in Trigger tab assign the shortcut. In this case we use f15 (use some way to simulate it, if it is not presented on the keyboard).
Start VS Codium
Use vs codium in X11 mode. This is because I currently do not know how to get active window class in wayland.
Result
Now if you middle click in vscodium window, it will receive the sequence of input that leads to enabling/disabling breakpoint. In any other window, the middle click will behave as normal.
There is debug.enableOrDisableBreakpoint in codium, but toggling that with shortcut only works when the cursor is on the line with breakpoint. I did not found a way to move cursor to the line where you pressed (method to get the mouse over line?). So I made that complex thing with ydotool choose_press.sh.
I also tried to start stop kbct by window activation, but that is unfortunately broken in kde wayland currently.
I try to close a window with the below configuration when pressing Ctrl and h.
Unfortunately it does not work.
E.g. in Chrome it opens the little window as if you press alt+space, when I focus the address bar in Chrome it works.
What do I do wrong?
;Hide a window
^h:: Send !{Space}n
Return
I managed to get a solution which fixes my issue:
I now use Kinto, which itself uses AutoHotkey, and it has the key action I want right from the start using the Mac OS Layout from the Kinto Installation Options.
Kinto itself uses AutoHotkey, you can find the AutoHotkey-file on Github.
I used to able to comment or uncomment multiple lines of code by pressing ctrl+/
# x = 10
# print(x)
But now I press ctrl+/, it becomes the following:
...
I tried to search for solution online, and I believe it is because the Windows shortcut somehow overwrite the shortcut in VS code. But I cannot find a solution.
I tried:
1.Reset the shortcut
2.Reinstall VS code
They don't work. Any help is appreciated.
First of all see which keyboard layout you are using on your System. Change the Keyboard layout to US-Keyboard if US keyboard is not selected.
If it is US keyboard then,
The shortcut key might have changed.
You can edit your preferences on VS code.
Goto File > Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts
Search for Toggle Line Comments.
Click on edit icon and press your desired shortcut key
It could also be caused due to the same key bindings for shortcuts.The Keyboard Shortcuts editor has a context menu command Show Same Keybindings, which will filter the keybindings based on a keyboard shortcut to display conflicts. To view same key bindings follow the above steps till Step 3.
Now right click on the Toggle Line commands and click Show same key bindings.
It depends on what language you are programming.
But if you want to type # character you can hold down shift key and press number 3 on your keyboard.
I encounter this problem before. You should press shift key to switch back to type English and try again.
In my VS code terminal, pressing tab key for auto-completion would exit the terminal and select other components of VS code. How can I stop it? I was testing different shortcuts. I must have accidentally done something wrong.
Find the answer here. https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/editor/accessibility#_tab-trapping
Click Tab move focus in the center of the bottom bar.
It'd be handy if there was a keyboard shortcut for hiding and showing the sidebar. Sublime has cmd+k+b and it's a quick way of gaining some screen real estate when you need it. Anybody know if this exists or if the user can add it manually to VS Code?
The command can be triggered via Ctrl+B on Windows and Linux or Cmd+B on the Mac.
There are 3 bars on the side, 2 left and 1 right:
the activity bar with 5 buttons
the primary sidebar toggled by clicking any of the activity bar buttons.
the minimap
All of these hotkeys and more (e.g. the terminal & output panel, Ctrl+J) are now visible through the View (Alt-V) and View>Appearance menus:
The activity bar has no toggle hotkey by default, but you can assign one like this:
{
"key": "ctrl+alt+b",
"command": "workbench.action.toggleActivityBarVisibility"
},
Or hide completely with "workbench.activityBar.visible": false
The sidebar toggle hotkey is Ctrl+B by default, but may be overridden by e.g. vim plugin, here's how to enforce or change it:
{
"key": "ctrl+b",
"command": "workbench.action.toggleSidebarVisibility"
},
The minimap can be hidden with "editor.minimap.enabled": false and toggled with editor.action.toggleMinimap since vscode 1.16.
And with the Sidebar-activity toggler extension, so you toggle both activity and sidebar together with one key mapping to sidebar-activity-toggler.toggleSidebarAndActivityBar
To Hide the 5 button Activity Bar we can now:
View -> Hide Activity Bar
This is in vscode 1.9, not sure which version it was introduced in.
As Benjamin Pasero's answer states you can use:
Ctrl+B on Windows and Linux
⌘ Cmd+B on the Mac.
but sometimes you have another keyboard shortcut with ⌘ Cmd+B, in my case I had it to format some React code. To reverse that you can use the following:
Code > Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts (⌘+K ⌘+S) then search for B and disable the other shortcut command.
You can also change the it and put which ever shortcut you want, just search for Toggle Side Bar Visibility like this:
Just in case you be intended for hiding the right lateral "sidebar", also called minimap, there is no shortcut. But you can configure the settings with:
{"editor.minimap.enabled: false"}
One can also hide the activity bar with the following setting in settings.json:
"workbench.activityBar.visible": false
To hide/show the side bar:
Ctrl+B on Linux and Windows.
⌘ Cmd+B on Mac.
No need to edit Settings.json directly
Do the following:
Open the Keyboard Shortcuts by pressing ctrl+k & ctrl+s
Search: "Toggle Activity Bar Visibility"
Enter the keyboard shortcut
Done!
Activity bar visibility in visual studio code
Mac users,
⌘ + B or
⌘ + 0 - Worked Perfectly
In the VS code version 1.43, you can hide or show the side menu or activity bar by going under the 'VIEW' tab in the nav bar in the top margin of VS CODE(called the 'Menu Bar'). Go to View => Appearance, there you can check or uncheck different nav bars to show/hide each one.
If you have the top bar (Menu Bar) currently hidden press 'alt' key to bring it back then follow above instructions to check it to keep it there permanently if desired.
