I have data that looks like this in postgres
My row_num column is created like this:
ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY dept_id, name, status ORDER BY dept_id, name, status) as row_num
dept_id name status row_num
1 227 occupied 1
1 227 occupied 2
1 227 vacant 1
1 227 vacant 2
1 227 occupied 3
1 227 occupied 4
1 227 vacant 3
1 227 vacant 4
This is what I want it to look like:
dept_id name status row_num
1 227 occupied 1
1 227 occupied 2
1 227 vacant 1
1 227 vacant 2
1 227 occupied 1
1 227 occupied 2
1 227 vacant 1
1 227 vacant 2
Any suggestions?
You can use recursive CTE to create the result you expected.
Data structure and query result: dbfiddle
with recursive
cte_r as (
select dept_id,
name,
status,
row_number() over (partition by dept_id, name) as rn
from test),
cte as (
select dept_id,
name,
status,
rn,
1 as grp
from cte_r
where rn = 1
union all
select cr.dept_id,
cr.name,
cr.status,
cr.rn,
case
when cr.status = c.status then grp + 1
else 1
end
from cte c,
cte_r cr
where c.rn = cr.rn - 1)
select dept_id,
name,
status,
grp as row_num
from cte;

I have the following table:
account
size id name
100 1 John
200 2 Mary
300 3 Jane
400 4 Anne
100 5 Mike
600 6 Joanne
I want to partition the rows in groups, where the sum of size <= 600.
Expected result:
account
group size id name
1 100 1 John
1 200 2 Mary
1 300 3 Jane
2 400 4 Anne
2 100 5 Mike
3 600 6 Joanne
I don't know how to do the partition and add the condition.
I cannot think of how to do this without recursion. I left the running_total in the result to make it easier to follow:
with recursive rns as ( -- Assign row numbers as rn in case of gaps in id
select *, row_number() over (order by id) as rn
from account
), sumgrp as ( -- Start with first row
select size, id, name, rn, 1 as grp, size as running_total
from rns
where rn = 1
union all
select n.size, n.id, n.name, n.rn,
case -- Increment the grp when running_total exceeds 600
when p.running_total + n.size > 600 then p.grp + 1
else p.grp
end as grp,
case -- Reset the running_total when it exceeds 600
when p.running_total + n.size > 600 then n.size
else p.running_total + n.size
end as running_total
from sumgrp p
join rns n on n.rn = p.rn + 1
)
select grp, size, id, name, running_total
from sumgrp
order by id;
db<>fiddle here
I have the following table
id num sub_id
1 3 1
1 5 2
1 1 1
1 4 2
2 1 5
2 2 5
I want to get this result
id num sub_id number
1 3 1 1
1 5 2 2
1 1 1 1
1 4 2 2
2 1 5 1
2 2 5 1
I tried to do this row_number() over (partition by id order by num,sub_id DESC) but th result is obviosly differs
I don't understand your business because you don't explain your logic and information about that, but maybe this query helps you?
Result and info: dbfiddle
with recursive
cte_r as (
select id,
num,
sub_id,
row_number() over () as rn
from test),
cte as (
select id,
num,
sub_id,
rn,
rn as grp
from cte_r
where rn = 1
union all
select cr.id,
cr.num,
cr.sub_id,
cr.rn,
case
when cr.id != c.id then 1
when cr.id = c.id and cr.sub_id = c.sub_id then c.grp
when cr.id = c.id and cr.sub_id > c.sub_id then c.grp + 1
when cr.id = c.id and cr.sub_id < c.sub_id then 1
end
from cte c,
cte_r cr
where c.rn = cr.rn - 1)
select id,
num,
sub_id,
grp
from cte
order by id
It looks like you actually want to ignore the num column and then use DENSE_RANK on sub_id:
SELECT *, dense_rank() AS number OVER (PARTITION BY id ORDER BY sub_id) FROM …;
I have a table with the following entries in them
id price quantity
1. 10 75
2. 10 75
3. 10 -150
4. 10 75
5. 10 -75
What I need to do is to update each row with a number that is the number of times the running total has been 0. In the above example, the cumulative totals would be
id. cum_total
1. 750
2. 1500
3. 0
4. 750
5. 0
Desired result
id price quantity seq
1. 10 75 1
2. 10 75 1
3. 10 -150 1
4. 10 75 2
5. 10 -75 2
I'm now lost in a spiral of CTEs and window functions and figured I'd ask the experts.
Thanks in advance :-)
Here is one option using analytic functions:
WITH cte AS (
SELECT *, CASE WHEN SUM(price*quantity) OVER (ORDER BY id) = 0 THEN 1 ELSE 0 END AS price_sum
FROM yourTable
),
cte2 AS (
SELECT *, LAG(price_sum, 1, 0) OVER (ORDER BY id) price_sum_lag
FROM cte
)
SELECT id, price, quantity, 1 + SUM(price_sum_lag) OVER (ORDER BY id) cumulative_total
FROM cte2
ORDER BY id;
Demo
You may try running each CTE in succession to see how the logic is working.
With window functions:
SELECT id, price, quantity,
coalesce(
sum(CASE WHEN iszero THEN 1 ELSE 0 END)
OVER (ORDER BY id
ROWS BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND 1 PRECEDING),
0
) + 1 AS batch
FROM (SELECT id, price, quantity,
sum(price * quantity) OVER (ORDER BY id) = 0 AS iszero
FROM mytable) AS subq;
My table has a parent/child relationship, along the lines of parent.id,id. There is also a column that contains a quantity, and another ID representing a grand-parent, like so:
id parent.id qty Org
1 1 1 100
2 1 0 100
3 1 4 100
4 4 1 101
5 4 2 101
6 6 1 102
7 6 0 102
8 6 1 102
What this is supposed to show is ID 1 is the parent, and ID 2 and 3 are children which belongs to ID 1, and ID 1, 2, and 3 all belong to the grandparent 100.
I would like to know if any child or parent has QTY = 0, what are all the other id's associated to that parent, and what are all the other parents associated with that grandparent?
For example, I would want to see a report that shows me this:
Org id parent.id qty
100 1 1 1
100 2 1 0
100 3 1 4
102 6 6 1
102 7 6 0
102 8 6 1
Much appreciate any help you can offer to build a MS SQL 2000 (yeah, I know) query to handle this.
Try this
select * from tablename a
where exists (select 1 from tablename x
where x.parent_id = a.parent_id and qty = 0)
Example:
;with cte as
( select 1 id,1 parent_id, 1 qty, 100 org
union all select 2,1,0,100
union all select 3,1,4,100
union all select 4,4,1,101
union all select 5,4,2,101
union all select 6,6,1,102
union all select 7,6,0,102
union all select 8,6,1,102
)
select * from cte a
where exists (select 1 from cte x
where x.parent_id = a.parent_id and qty = 0)
SQL DEMO HERE
I have query like that:
(as You see I'd like to retrieve 50% of total rows or first 100 rows etc)
//#AllRowsSelectType is INT
SELECT TOP (
case #AllRowsSelectType
when 1 then 100 PERCENT
when 2 then 50 PERCENT
when 3 then 25 PERCENT
when 4 then 33 PERCENT
when 5 then 50
when 6 then 100
when 7 then 200
end
) ROW_NUMBER() OVER(ORDER BY [id]) AS row_num, a,b,c etc
why have I the error : "Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'PERCENT'." on line "when 1 [...]"
The syntax for TOP is:
TOP (expression) [PERCENT]
[ WITH TIES ]
The reserved keyword PERCENT cannot be included in the expression. Instead you can run two different queries: one for when you want PERCENT and another for when you don't.
If you need this to be one query you can run both queries and use UNION ALL to combine the results:
SELECT TOP (
CASE #AllRowsSelectType
WHEN 1 THEN 100
WHEN 2 THEN 50
WHEN 3 THEN 25
WHEN 4 THEN 33
ELSE 0
END) PERCENT
ROW_NUMBER() OVER(ORDER BY [id]) AS row_num, a, b, c, ...
UNION ALL
SELECT TOP (
CASE #AllRowsSelectType
WHEN 5 THEN 50
WHEN 6 THEN 100
WHEN 7 THEN 200
ELSE 0
END)
ROW_NUMBER() OVER(ORDER BY [id]) AS row_num, a, b, c, ...
You're also mixing two different types of use. The other is.
DECLARE #ROW_LIMT int
IF #AllRowsSelectType < 5
SELECT #ROW_LIMIT = COUNT(*)/#AllRowsSelectType FROM myTable -- 100%, 50%, 33%, 25%
ELSE
SELECT #ROW_LIMIT = 50 * POWER(2, #AllRowsSelectType - 5) -- 50, 100, 200...
WITH OrderedMyTable
(
select *, ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY id) as rowNum
FROM myTable
)
SELECT * FROM OrderedMyTable
WHERE rowNum <= #ROW_LIMIT
You could do:
select top (CASE #FilterType WHEN 2 THEN 50 WHEN 3 THEN 25 WHEN 4 THEN 33 ELSE 100 END) percent * from
(select top (CASE #FilterType WHEN 5 THEN 50 WHEN 6 THEN 100 WHEN 7 THEN 200 ELSE 2147483647 END) * from
<your query here>
) t
) t
Which may be easier to read.
