Cannot use testpmd to send pkts to VM in qemu process though virtio - virtualization

I'm trying to test vhost-user/virtio-net. I used testpmd to send pkts (in txonly mode) to qemu VM. But all pkts were droped showed by testpmd. here is my environment:
DPDK version: 19.08
(HOST) Hugepagesize=1GB Hugepages=16
# testpmd cmd
testpmd -l 0-3 -n 4 --socket-mem 1024 --vdev 'net_vhost0,iface=/tmp/sock0,queues=1' -- -i
# qemu cmd
qemu-system-x86_64 /opt/vm/centos/vm.img \
-cpu qemu64,+ssse3,+sse4.1,+sse4.2 \
--enable-kvm \
--nographic -vnc :0 \
-smp 4 \
-m 4096 -mem-path /dev/hugepages,share=on -mem-prealloc \
-chardev socket,id=chr0,path=/tmp/sock0 \
-netdev vhost-user,id=net0,chardev=chr0,queues=1,vhostforce \
-device virtio-net-pci,netdev=net0,ioeventfd=on,mac=52:54:00:00:00:14 \
-netdev tap,id=tapnet0,ifname=tap1,script=no,downscript=no \
-device e1000,netdev=tapnet0
the link was established and virt-queue was initialized:

Did I missed sth?

Looks like it has either DPDK or NUMA backed page issue. The same is working with DPDK version 19.11 LTS and 20.11 LTS.
DPDK application: rm /tmp/sock0; sudo ./build/l2fwd --legacy-mem -l 1-2 --no-pci --vdev=net_vhost0,iface=/tmp/sock0 --vdev=net_tap0 -m 1024 -- -p 3 -T 1 --no-mac-updating

Once the VM is booted, you can login via ssh port 10023.

Why can the third host receive dataflow between host no.1 and host no.2?(Three hosts are all virtual machines installed in VMware with NAT mode)

I installed three operating systems(let's say 3 hosts) in VMware, all with NAT mode. 3 hosts are named centos, centos 1,centos 2.(As the pic shows below)
3 hosts in VMware
The first host's IP address is 192.168.248.132, the second is 192.168.248.136, and we don't need to know third host's IP because it's not related to this issue.
I typed the command "ping 192.168.248.136", and the output on the screen is:
PING 192.168.248.136 (192.168.248.136) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 192.168.248.136: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.435 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.248.136: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.313 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.248.136: icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=0.385 ms
This means ping command has succeeded and host no.2(whose IP addr is 192.168.248.136) has received ICMP and replied.
Meanwhile, I typed the command "tcpdump -i ens33" in host no.3. If everything had worked correctly, host no.3 would not have received any data between host no.1 and host no.2, because ICMP is neither broadcast nor multicast, so only host no.1 and 2 can send and receive. Also, host no.3's network interface is not promiscuous mode, so it can only receive it's own frame. The output from host no.3 below can show it is not promiscuous mode.
[root#localhost usr]# ifconfig
ens33: flags=4163<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
inet 192.168.248.137 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.248.255
inet6 fe80::b488:bc2c:3770:a95f prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x20<link>
ether 00:0c:29:0d:dc:86 txqueuelen 1000 (Ethernet)
RX packets 351081 bytes 512917768 (489.1 MiB)
RX errors 0 dropped 0 overruns 0 frame 0
TX packets 34947 bytes 2166260 (2.0 MiB)
TX errors 0 dropped 0 overruns 0 carrier 0 collisions 0
flag is 4163<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST>, "PROMISC" is not mentioned, so it is not promiscuous mode.
However, after I typed "tcpdump -i ens33" in host no.3, something appeared on the screen:
06:28:11.511233 IP 192.168.248.132 > 192.168.248.136: ICMP echo request, id 3137, seq 5, length 64
06:28:11.511503 IP 192.168.248.136 > 192.168.248.132: ICMP echo reply, id 3137, seq 5, length 64
Host no.3 received the dataflow between no.1 and 2, and this was supposed to be sent to no.2, but no.3 received it.
So here comes the question, why can host no.3 receive packet which was not supposed to be sent to it?
tcpdump by default activates "promiscuous mode" making it able to see anything on the network it is connected to (even if not explicitly sent to it).
the three hosts seem to be connected to a virtual switch that do not isolate the hosts from each other.

Distributed Drill Won't Start: "Drillbit is disallowed to bind to loopback address in distributed mode."

I have (3) CentOS8 VirtualBox VM's, with networking enabled and each with 16 GB RAM allocated. Each has /etc/hosts configured as such:
127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost4 localhost4.localdomain4
::1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost6 localhost6.localdomain6
I am running a Zookeeper Quorum across the VMs with the following config:
#/home/strickolas/Downloads/project/zookeeper/conf/zoo.cfg
initLimit=10
syncLimit=5
clientPort=2181
tickTime=2000
dataDir=/home/strickolas/Downloads/project/zookeeper/data
reconfigEnabled=true
standaloneEnabled=false
server.1=192.168.0.4:2888:3888
server.2=192.168.0.5:2888:3888
server.3=192.168.0.6:2888:3888
I killed the firewall using sudo systemctl stop firewalld. It was causing me problems with running ZK. I will eventually need to config the firewall properly, but for now, that's a future-me problem.
Doing a ./bin/zkServer.sh status says that ZK is running as it should be:
Zookeeper JMX enabled by default
Using config /home/strickolas/Downloads/project/zookeeper/bin/../conf/zoo.cfg
Client port found: 2181. Client address:localhost.
Mode: leader # or follower depending on which node you ask.
Now for my Drill setup:
#/home/strickolas/Downloads/project/drill/conf/drill-override.conf
drill.exec: {
cluster-id: "drillbits1",
zk.connect: "192.168.0.4:2181,192.168.0.5:2181,192.168.0.6:2181"
}
Running ./bin/drillbit.sh run results in:

Any idea?
You need to create an entry in /etc/hosts in each of the hosts with their IP address and their hostname (e.g. "192.168.0.4 drillbit1" for node 1, "192.168.0.5 drillbit2" for node 2, and "192.168.0.6 drillbit3" for node 3).

There are few problems with the command line:
The -coreId, -socket is not a valid DPDK command line argument. That is probably your app custom arguments?
The --proc-type is used for multiprocess application, usually we don't need this option.
The --socket-mem=512,0,0,0 allocates 512MB on NUMA node 0 and zero on nodes 1-3. But please note, that some of your NICs are on NUMA node 1 in fact, so we need to allocate some memory there as well.
Instead of a bunch of -b (blacklist) options we can use just one or two -w (whitelist)
Still it does not explain why there is no 0000:43:00.0 device appeared. So pease try to add --log-level=debug to see what is happening to this device.

Increasing concurrent connections on ubuntu for iperf3 server

I'm trying to run a iperf3 client (ubuntu server 17.04 VM) to server(ubuntu server 17.04 VM) test for maximum parallel streams possible with the -P option. Currently have reached a max of ~1022 streams before it will terminate with buffer overflow error. Have made the following changes to stretch the limits -
- Increased the /etc/security/limits.conf soft and hard limits for nofile to 16384
- Increases the ulimit to 16384
Are there any other changes that I can make to exceed the ~1022 limit that I am reaching?

Google compute engine boot fails after hardware upgrade to Hashwell

I have a f1-micro instance running on Google Compute Engine running CentOS.
Some time ago I got a mail stating that the zone I am using (us-central1-b) is going through a hardware upgrade to new Hashwell servers, and all instances need to be restarted. So, I did restart. I shut down my services, and performed a restart via the developer dev. console.
But the instance never came up - the boot on the new hardware failed, and now I can not log in to the instance with ssh. I will add the serial console content below this.
My main issue is that there are some content I would really like to get my hands on (nope - didn't do a full backup - shoot!).
How do I restore the instance, when I can not log in using ssh?
Changing serial settings was 0/0 now 3/0

I suggest at first to follow standard troubleshooting steps to validate the disk's filesystem as documented.
Then you can try to snapshot the disk and create a new instance with boot disk from snapshot to avoid exclude a disk UUID conflict.
Finally you can try to attach the disk to recover the files to a brand new instance as I suggested in my previous comment.
If you can not validate the filesystem as per troubleshooting guide the data is most probably lost and nothing more can be done to recover it.
Please note as a good practice to take care of either periodic snapshot, GCS differentiual backup or other replication method.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
P.
