Is there a way to have Crystal Reports prompt user for their e-mail address then result set is e-mailed to user as a spreadsheet? - crystal-reports

I'm new to Crystal Reports, and I have a SQL report that previously has been run in SMSS by the person in my position and e-mailed out on demand. I'd like to put it in Crystal Reports so users can run when needed; Crystal Reports is integrated with our EHR system. The report has way too many columns to fit on a page which sets the user up for complaints when the report doesn't print correctly. I'm wondering if there's some way that I can set a parameter or similar that prompts the user for an e-mail address and Crystal Reports then e-mails the report as a spreadsheet/csv file versus displaying it for print. Could a python program be triggered in some way and thus bypass CR? Is this possible in any way?

Yes, this is possible via the Crystal Reports runtime. Or consider getting one of the 3rd-party Crystal Reports automation tools listed here.

Crystal Reports 2008 - How Do you Freeze The Header or Columns of a Table

Can anyone help me with my query.
How to freeze the header part of Crystal Reports 2008 in the crystal report viewing time.
(the header part should be always displayed while the user scrolls down on the report).
I can't find any option for this.
Thanks.

There is no way to achieve that in Crystal alone. But there are ways around that limitation.
For example, you can export the data from Crystal to Excel and freeze panes in Excel.
Or you can export the data from Crystal to a web grid.
There are 3rd-party Crystal Reports utilities that can automate these options.

running a crystal report from script not from screen

Is it possible to run from a script running in Cygwin in any way a crystal report with parameters and get the report back in pdf format?
What i am trying to do is - I created a crystal report and I need it to run at night from a "scheduler".
I need to know if it is possible to run the report from a script (including sending the report 2 parameters) and have the report save to a PDF file automatically?
Thank you!
There are Crystal Reports SDKs for .NET and Java, available on the official download pages: https://www.crystalreports.com/download/
And, of course, a wide variety of third-party tools that promise to support scheduled report generation – I'd suggest to google after "crystal reports scheduler" or take Ken Hamady's list as a starting point: https://www.kenhamady.com/productlinks/

How to update parameter of a Crystal Report with Crystal Reports Server?

We have Crystal Reports XI and are using Crystal Reports Server XI. We have many reports on Crystal Server but none are using report parameters.
I created a .RPT with 1 parameter called REPORT_TYPE that is a STATIC parameter in my report. For some reason, when I upload the report to Crystal Server, I cannot change the parameter value. I tried the following steps:
Opened the report in Crystal Server and clicked Process -> Parameters
Clicked where it displays the parameter named and [EMPTY] next to the value
I then can type any value I want in the field titled "Enter a value" but when I click update nothing happens. The page does not reload and the value is not stored in the report if I click another tab and go back it still displays [EMPTY]
Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated! I tried using both the latest version of Chrome and IE (also with and without Computability View).
What you can do is modify the report on crystal and upload it again into the server. If you don't have the report, preview it and download a copy as crystal reports.
You can also do a repository connection. It will allow you to make changes on a report that is already on the server. In below link you can see how to make the connection.

Crystal Reports

my problem is that i have to mail crystal reports through outlook to different vendors. I've got the solution how to mail through outlook but the problem that i am facing now is that i have to attach the report and the report should be such that it shows details of a particular row from the database. i tried using .rpt file and attached it but since .rpt is a saved data the same data goes to all the vendors and not a different quotation.
The "rpt" file itself is just the definition of the report. It doesn't contain data. You'll have to run the report and export it in some file format, e.g. as PDF. You could attach that PDF file to your email.
Like splattne said...You would use a report parameter for the vendor. Set the parameter value before calling ReportDocument.ExportToDisk().
There are different options to do what you want. The most popular one is bursting. You will create a report wich returns information for all vendors and group data by vendor. Then use a software to parse and save this report to separate files per vendor, which will be emailed to the vendors' email address ( part of the report too).
If you have BOE you can use bursting publication, otherwise you can check this website for 3rd party solutions , which support bursting: http://kenhamady.com/cru/comparisons/desktop-scheduling-engines
Most of the solutions are paid, but there are generally affordable. There are some free options like this one:

Can you start Crystal Reports 10 in read only mode so users can't create or change a report?

I'm in an environment where I have created reports in CrystalReports 10 and only want my users to view the report from an external application. The application is already set up to open the report with crystal, but I don't want my users to be able create or change the report. I can't seem to find a command line option to do this. Is there a runtime only version of Crystal?
embed crviewer and craxdrt components in your app (delivered with CR developer's edition, free to distribute) so that you'll be able to view reports without modifying them. Basic manipulations (zoom, search, export to pdf, display/hide details or groups) can still be done.
If you must launch this viewer from a command line, I'd advise you to embed it in an office document/file and manage it through VBA. You could for example launch the runtime version of Access (free to distribute) that will contain one generic form for Crystal Reports display.
There are Crystal Reports viewer components which you can use in your projects. They are coming with the Crystal Reports Developer editions and you can use them in almost every programming language. There you can define the report as view only if you want.
Go to SAP.com and search for "Crystal Reports Viewer". It may or may not do what you want.
Also take a look at "Crystal Reports Server". CRS XI is a nice reporting portal with many useful server-side features. Schedule reports to run and auto-publish. Generate PDF or Excel output. Limit access to reports (or groups of reports) by specific users, etc. But for your application you can use HTTP access within your application to the published results. This is a good solution for example when you have a large number of users viewing the same reports.
What about marking the file as read-only? If the viewer opiton isn't open to you.
