PowerShell-script with invoke-command gets stuck on specific computers - powershell

I'm writing a PowerShell-Script that reads all shares from all AD-Servers and outputs them into a csv-file. At the same time the script is saving all occuring errors and outputs them into an error-log. The script will be run as a weekly task.
When I run the script, all goes well until it gets to one specific server on which it just loads infinitely. The AD-Server (Windows Server_2012_R2) is inside a normal OU and other servers in this OU work fine.
I believe that there are a few others on which the problem occures as well but I'm not sure how many exactly (about one in 150).
It does not produce an error.
Do you know what could be the Problem here?

Alright I now found the problem. Two servers where frozen and that resulted in the never ending PowerShell script. Now I think I will configure some Sort of timeout, does anyone of you know how I could do that the best way?

PowerShell Test-Connection -efficient Method

Just finished up a few different PowerShell ver 5.1 scripts that perform a test-connection on the same 2000 devices regularly.
Out to a csv file
And they are all slow, some minor speed improvements when tweaking it down to the bare bones.
I’ve scaled the script to the minimal, IPADDRESS and NAME only
I’ve run a few comparison tests against a batch file (ping 123.456.789.001 >> PingTest.txt ) and these tests APPEAR to run quicker than my PS script (will run a full apple to apples test tomorrow), but confident something is amiss in the PS code.
Am looking at arrays, and how piping works, but am afraid I’m putting the cart in front of the horse, or there is something going on with how PS handles the csv format and/or ping list in its memory

The export-csv is faster, thank you. I'm not sure if I have it in the right place, but it works, will run some tests on it tomorrow. I may have to include the passes tests though , still getting my head around the get-job cmdlet.

#AbrahamZinala the only hard part to understand is the [powershell] instance part imo, and you can think of it as a Start-Job but much faster and less memory consuming, you add your scriptblock with .AddScript({...}) and then the parameters with .AddParameters([hashtablehere]). It's important to save the PSInstance in a variable so that we can get the output out of it and it's handler (Status = $psinstance.BeginInvoke()) to know when the instance has completed. The rest is just pure blueprint, once you have one you can copy paste it :P –

This is a good place where you can use runspaces, I would love to test if Test-Connection -AsJob performs better than this but for some reason it is not available on PS Core on Linux.
Code below took around 10 seconds to scan 254 IPs using my private network IP range. There is a lot of tweaking that can be done, i.e. you can poke around the $Threshold variable, it's currently running 100 runspaces at a time, Count and TimeoutSeconds for Test-Connection have been set to 2 you can tweak that too.
$results variable can be exported using Export-Csv.

It's my first post here, I'm tring to write scripts on PS on my own, now my target is to write script that checks if computer is online at network, for example: test-Connection 192.168.0.1, 2, 3 etc. Doing this one by one on loop for takes some time if some computers are offline, I've found some tutorials on this site to use -AsJob param, but I'm not really Sure how could it work. I mean I'd like to output every checked PC to excel, so i need if operator. eg:

do smth}...
I need to get output from Job boolean (true/false), but one by one. I'm taking my first steps in PS, I've made program that checks it one by one in for loop, but as i said it take some time till my excel file fill...
I can see, that AsJob makes working more effective and I think it's important to understand it

In your example, in the Start-Job scriptblock you are trying to access $_ which is not available in the codeblock scope. If you replace $_ with $args[0] it should work since you are passing in the $ip value as an argument

To modify the properties to what you want there are different ways of doing this. Easiest in this case is probably to use a calculated property

Unable to show export-csv in PoweSshell

I have been researching the web to see what am I missing and can't find out, I run the command it goes thru the list of computers but the export doc is always empty.

I'm not sure why you're not getting output. I've rewritten your script for a few reasons I'd like to point out. First, your variable naming is not very clear. I'm guessing you come from a VBScripting background. Next, you're creating an array and then adding to it - this is simply not needed. You can capture the output of any loop/scriptblock/etc directly by assigning like tihs.

If you write your script in a way that takes advantage of the pipeline, you can do even more. Next, creating the object with New-Object is slow compared to using the [PSCustomObject] type accelerator introduced in V3. Finally, it seems you create a custom csv for each computer but in the end you just export everything to one file. I'm going to assume you are wanting to collect all this info and put in one CSV.
My recommendation for you to help troubleshoot, run this against your machines and confirm the output on the screen. Whatever you see on the screen should be captured in the report variable. (Except write-host, it's special and just goes to the console)

Power shell For Loop not Looping

So the output works fine but I'm having an issue with it only outputing the last line it runs. Is there anyway to check for loops to test in the future?
but i have a list of ip address and im trying to check if the firewall in windows is enabled or disabled.
They are on one LARGE (300+ workgroup). Any help in getting this to loop properly would be appreciated. Security and other things are not a concern cause i have other scripts that run fine. And i dont get any errors. just the single output.
ive already tried moving the array and that didn't help. im thinking it could be the PSCustomObject part as i'm just starting to learn these. Or could it be my input and output formats are different and that's causing issues??

Your previous code was not escaping the loop and was only adding the last computer in the loop to the object.
The best way I have found, is to make a temp object and add it to an array list then export that. Much nicer.

Note:
No intermediate variables are needed; each computer name read from the input file is processed one by one, and each custom object constructed based on it is sent to the output CSV file.
The command for extracting the firewall status from netsh's output was made more robust in order to extract the state information based on the line content (regex ^State, i.e., a line starting with State) rather than a line index ([3]); the unary form of -split splits the line of interest into tokens by whitespace, and index [-1] extracts the last token, which is the state value.
As for what you tried:
Your foreach loop ended before $Object was constructed, so you ended up constructing just 1 object to send to the output file with Export-Csv.
If you had formatted your code properly, that fact would have been more obvious; try using Visual Studio Code with the PowerShell extension, which offers automatic formatting via the >Format Document (Shift+Alt+F) command.

powershell Get-Winevent SWITCH MATCH issue

But, if i switch the positions of the two case statements inside the switch, i'm not getting the expected output(The derived field 'ID Description' is blank). I am trying to get mix of string matches on the message field and EventID field to be working together.

The Message field clearly has the string 'Sleep Reason: Application API' as we can see from the first output. Wondering whats going on here... Any clues powershell experts?
Ok, two issues I see:
A) You're probably breaking your own script. I'll get to that in a sec.
B) You're missing a ' on the $_.Message line. Type='Sleep should be 'Type=Sleep
Ok, back to point A. I'll start with ;break. In 99% of cases don't do it, you'll make the scripting gods angry, and you wouldn't like them when they're angry. In most cases you want to use ;Continue instead. Break literally breaks out of things, and depending on where it's used it can break out of parent loops entirely stopping part way through a set of things. Continue on the other hand moves to the end of the current loop, skipping anything else. Same thing? Kinda, sorta, but Continue won't break a ForEach-Object loop like Break will.
So, with that said, let's try this in your switch:

Ok, that's great, along with the whole ' issue in point B that would probably fix the code in general.
So, with that said, why are you running it like that? Dear lord, running an insanely long one liner is just crazy. Save it to a .PS1 file, and if you're calling it from a batch file then call the script file, but ug, that's just hard to work with in general, it's no wonder you missed the ' in the middle of that line. If you are calling it from a batch file, name it GetSleepLogs.ps1 (or whatever you want, just modify the file name in the command) and try this:

Edit: I didn't like the convertto-CSV | select -skip 1 | %{ %_ -replace ...} | Out-File thing, it just seemed clunky to me. Also, all the impromptu hashtables on the Select command were a little hard to follow. Check out this alternative that creates 1 object with several properties, and then just pipes that to Export-CSV with the -append and -NoTypeInformation switches set which should just tack it to the bottom of an existing CSV file.
